I love Triangle. This is my go to whenever people ask me about underrated horror movies. It took me so long to figure out how they did the mirror shot.
Honestly a Horror History for this movie would be really nice haha. And yeah that mirror shot is actually bonkers, they don't even draw attention to it, it just happens out of nowhere!
If you love that scene, watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban which has a couple of scenes where the camera goes through windows and mirrors, especially to start another scene
1:08:54 my favorite little detail is in the scene with all the Sallys! Jess gives Sally her jacket and you see the same jacket on some of the dead Sallys’ bodies, so Jess did that several other times before
1:00:16 how I understand the loops is: only one set of everyone is on board at the same time, but there are always 3 Jesses: one that just boarded, one that’s just finding out she’s in a time loop, and one bag head At least that’s I think that’s how it works, because the boat only comes back with a new group when the other 4 are all dead
James talking about his hatred of the Charmin bears with such genuine disdain and disgust for a full 40 seconds at 53:44 was my favorite part of this podcast
It’s interesting that the movie is called Triangle and it deals with the concept of a time loop which gives the imagery of a circle. But it’s a closed circuit nonetheless with three different points in the timeline. You have the boarding of the first boat, being on the Aeolus and then Jess at home with her son/the car wreck which goes back to the boarding of the first boat.
I watched this movie for the first time yesterday after you tweeted that you’d be doing an episode on it. I had no idea what it was about, and let me tell you, I have not had this wild of a reaction to a movie since Malignant. I absolutely loved it and it’s become an instant new favorite of mine.
If Chelsea ever needs a week to just nerd out without any deep research, I would kill to hear her walking James through the narratives of the Nonary Games and Danganronpa. Where she gets him invested in certain characters and he just hopes they survive the elimination games that the characters are put into 😗
So happy you guys did this, easily one of my favorite movies and a fantastic podcast episode! Something you guys didn't point out: Jess's son sees "her" peering in through the window, which is what startles him and causes him to spill the paint, leading to the other Jess flipping out and hitting him. It was all her own fault, even in the end. That, and the opening shot of her consoling her son, saying stuff like "we all have bad dreams sometimes" is her trying to convince him that he didn't just watch her murder his mom/herself? What a movie.
I'm so happy that Triangle is finally getting the attention it deserves!!! I watched this way back when I was like 14 or 15 (I'm 23 now) on some random movie channel on tv that would show only horror movies all through Saturday night until Sunday morning. I watched it not knowing anything about it and absolutely loved it and was surprised to find basically nobody online was talking about it so to now see it get praise all these years later just brings me so much joy.
It should've got way more recognition. While it's kind of the "run of the mill" time loop story, it's execution is good and the twist at the end is great. Also, love movies that are compact and aren't exsistiential!
Not gonna lie. When I first watched this movie, the twists had me totally confounded. To this day, I still expect to be weirded out by the whole premise, but I know it has a deeper meaning behind the twisted cycle of events experienced by the protagonist. Thanks for covering this, James and Chelsea. Had a lot of fun listening!
I always thought it was called Triangle (both the movie and the boat) because while everything is repeating cycles, it's not a perfect circle. Each cycle is a little different, and while there's tons of overlap, there are also differences. It repeats, but it's not the exact same line. It's not a circle, it's a triangle.
@@freakytaxi, i mean, there are only 5 Phantasm movies, and James said it a few times... i'm sure Chelsea would've caught that... *shrug* wouldn't be the first time i overlooked a franchise (but probably for SOME good reason lol)

As a musical theatre nerd for most of my life, I am hugely looking forward to the Phantom ep and will watch/listen to it multiple times But I’ve seen this one too and look forward to your thoughts
@@princeapoopoo5787 Same! I cannot wait to be transported back to my sophomore year of high school when Chelsea talks about sexy Patrick Wilson, and to roll my eyes at Phantom of the Paradise (my ex’s favorite movie)
This is one of those movies I'm like "oh shit that's right, I DIDN'T dream it up." I really should have paid more attention to the weird shit my stepmom would play on tv, because this was kind of a banger.
I was 15 minutes into this episode and decided “I’m going to rewatch even though i saw it a years ago” And I’m so glad I did because I had completely forgotten the ending, despite it being the beginning lol Still an amazing movie! And better on rewatch!
This is small subsection of horror that I'm really developing a taste for. Horror movies set at sea on an isolated boat. 'Harpoon' and 'Sea fever' are also excellent sea based horrors and now 'Triangle' is added to the list. There's just something about the isolation of the open sea and an abandoned boat that I find really comforting. Given the chance I'd love to have that cruise ship all to myself. It was such a vibe.
Finally watched this! Was really into it. Wasn't too scary, as someone who loves action films and not horror movies. Im so glad I have this podcast to watch right after to discuss it.
One thing I enjoy about Triangle is that there are different Melissa Georges in different time loops. Like there’s one time loop where Melissa George’s character always kills herself on the boat and never becomes a better person, then there’s one with our OG main character killing her past self off before she can get on the boat and always reliving the same thing over and over again and forgetting each time. There’s possibly more timelines/loops as well but we know for sure of two timelines
Oh shit. Triangle is incredible, one of my favorite horror movies! I'd love to see a Kill Count of it at some point to give it the boost in recognition it should get, but it's really a movie that deserves a whole long discussion.
the mirror shot of the three of her at the beginning is a really good forshadowing. I liked this movie overall but i thought showing Jess being abusive out of nowhere seemed weird. I guess there's some hints of it like her talking about her kid at the beginning. But we learn why she was acting weird later. I dont know, it seemed off because we didnt see her as abusive until towards the end.
That's kind of the point, I think. The beginning is her pov, her own reality of sorts where she basically doesn't see how she's treating her son as wrong. It's only at the end we (she and the audience) see how she really treated him that the truly realizes how awful she is. That's probably partially the reason for the loop, not only because she mourns the death of her son and wants to bring him back, but sees the error of her ways of her ways and tries to save her son from herself (from the abuse and the crash). She also likely knows by the end of each loop there's nothing she can do, so returns to the boat as a form of punishment to herself in the end, thus restarting the loop.
Her abusiveness is being shown when she is killing the people from the yacht. She was a mean mother with mental issues but she still loved her son. So she’s taking out her revenge on them and then when it starts over her memory goes away. She’s literally a vengeful spirit she blames them for her and her son’s death and she’s choosing murder every time
I had this episode paused at the beginning for FOREVER because James and Chelsea's spoiler-free description got me interested and I FINALLY got to watch it with the buddy I wanted to watch it with. Really enjoyed it! The way it all unravels is so interesting and the whole movie is so well done, it's cool (Jess can do all that PARKOUR in her sandals, that's the power of Floridians, baybee). Wouldn't mind rewatching it to enjoy it again! :D
The director of this, Christopher Smith, also did a movie called Severance, it’s a horror/comedy slasher, and it’s also very good, if anyone is looking to follow this up with something different by the same guy.
I'm so excited you are covering this. Between this and the most underrated 90's horror franchise ever (Urban Legend) being covered on the count, July has been a banger for Dead Meat!
I watch films specifically so I can listen to you guys talk about them after and I'm glad you pointed me in the direction of this film. It was so good!
I’m a bit behind but I just watched it for the first time and the first time Jess is being chased by the bagged head Jess (before the reveal that she’s in a loop) you can see the bagged head wearing the same wedges that the og Jess was wearing! 44:20
I love research episodes, but only when they're something you like the movie enough to do them. Please don't feel pressured to do even MORE work, you already do a lot and I appreciate it.
The main character waking up after washing ashore and then starting the purgatory loop is a reference to the story of Dante's inferno, where he faints crossing the river Acheron, and usually symbolises the crossing from one realm to another. Charon ferries people across this river to hell. Inception and 1408 are two other films where it's used
I went on a "scream queen binge" a few years ago where I watched all the horror movies an actress I like/love has been in. And eventually got to Melissa George (a scream queen in her own right imo) and saw Triangle literally only knowing it's a horror and that she's in it. My mind was blown, this is such a good movie and I totally recommend it to literally anybody that likes horrors. The ending to this movie, omg. Jess is such a good mom 🤭
My brother showed me this movie a couple months ago and I still think about it, I think it's a super cool movie to have come out in 2009. I'm surprised y'all haven't seen any of Christopher Smith's other stuff! Besides Triangle, back in the 2000s he had some other underrated entries in the horror space with Severance and Creep. Lately, his newer films have been Shudder exclusives, with The Banishing and Consecration.
Severance is both gritty and hilarious, I think American and UK people would enjoy it mostly equally. The pitch I’d say is basically Friday the 13th meets Shaun of the Dead.
I audibly said woaaahh when I saw this pop up as a new episode. Triangle is definitely an underrated one, no other podcast I listen to got to it so I’m glad my favorite one did (;
I think that there's a series of loops of them boarding the boat, that are allowed to have some variations between them; and there's also a larger, meta-loop that resets whenever she manages to get off the boat
i can't imagine not watching a dead meat video even if it's something i'm not particularly into. dead meat team makes every video so fun and informative. half the time when it's something i'm not interested in i find myself wanting to know more or appreciating it more by the end of the video. super excited for the phantom pods, he's such an underrated classic like the invisible man
This reminded me so much of Dark floors (2008), a similar time loop movie, though I do appreciate that it's only one loop/reset to let us stew with that knowledge
I almost never do this, but after the intro, I actually did stop the video to go watch the movie first, then came back to listen to the pod. Very cool and interesting movie!
i watched this a few months ago with my partner and it was such a surprise how it went down! its really sad its not more popular because its a really good story with a great twist to it. i went into it knowing nothing beyond it was on a boat and man... id love to see more things like this. thanks for spreading the word about it! hopefully itll get some more well-earned attention from this!

Can you guys please do a podcast on The Uninvited I think it’s from 2011??? I would LOVE to hear what y’all want to discuss about it. Such an underrated film!
I really didn't know this movie is under the radar from many people. Cause this is one of the few movies that I like, which is horror movie, yet I can still watch it.
I stumbled on this just a week ago. The full movie is titled “Ghost Ship” on RUclips. I thought it was the other Ghost Ship movie but it piqued my interest anyway and I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a fun watch for sure!

BRO I loved this movie I’m so shocked and happy you guys are covering it, I watched it in like 2012 on a bootlegged DVD that my buddy got from this dude who would hook him up with a bunch of random dvd’s and this just so happened to be in the bunch and the whole house was obsessed with it.
45:59 That's a very good catch! The camera going through the mirror explains the reflected image of the approaching ship, which was a point of confusion for a lot of people. I like how the movie challenges your spatial reasoning. 🤔
I love that they actually liked this movie I remember watching this movie on SyFy back in the day it was my favorite movie but no one else I showed it to liked it or didn't get it
I just rewatched this last week. When I first saw it I saw just putting on a random movie on to watch while I worked and loved it.
aw chelsea’s research eps are always my favorite podcast episodes, the texas chainsaw and us podcasts blew my mind. i hope everyone gets their act together and the next one does numbers because you guys deserve it 🫡
9 months after this episode aired and mayo is still the best~
I'm surprised y'all haven't seen any of Christopher Smith's other stuff! Besides Triangle, back in the 2000s he had some other underrated entries in the horror space with Severance and Creep. Lately, his newer films have been Shudder exclusives, with The Banishing and Consecration.
Severance is both gritty and hilarious, I think American and UK people would enjoy it mostly equally. The pitch I’d say is basically Friday the 13th meets Shaun of the Dead.
Creep had me absolutely stunned the first time i watched it. Honestly gobsmacked at the weirdness of that movie but i love it.
Y’all are amazing, no matter what y’all do I’m still here to watch it, love y’all thank you for doing what you do
Omg I remember requesting this for a kill count like- 3 years ago!
I watched this movie just over a year ago and I loved it. Did not expect y'all to be doing this
I'm so excited about this! I love triangle and it's one I don't see people talk about a lot
I audibly said woaaahh when I saw this pop up as a new episode. Triangle is definitely an underrated one, no other podcast I listen to got to it so I’m glad my favorite one did (;
This movie always gave me such a weird acid trip loop vibe and I hate love it so much. Great vid as always guys!!!
I think that there's a series of loops of them boarding the boat, that are allowed to have some variations between them; and there's also a larger, meta-loop that resets whenever she manages to get off the boat
Finally! I love this movie so much and so few horror content creators talk about it!
i can't imagine not watching a dead meat video even if it's something i'm not particularly into. dead meat team makes every video so fun and informative. half the time when it's something i'm not interested in i find myself wanting to know more or appreciating it more by the end of the video. super excited for the phantom pods, he's such an underrated classic like the invisible man
This reminded me so much of Dark floors (2008), a similar time loop movie, though I do appreciate that it's only one loop/reset to let us stew with that knowledge
My favorite thing about this podcast is it gets me to watch horror movies I otherwise would NEVER take time to watch. Thank you guys!!
I love this episode I got to watch another amazing movie, you guys talking about mayonnaise was the best.
We don’t want more research episodes, we need them! I go watch the old ones a lot! I miss them.
you are so real for this ❤
Things I do not expect from my dead meat videos - shouting out the legend that is Doyle Brunson. But I am absolutely here for it.
Im so hyped for the phantom feature summer!!! Will watch several times to make up for the sad souls who will not
27:50 You can see the platform & steps towards the back of the ship where the characters hopped on
A paper thin layer of mayonnaise is all I can take. I do want some on the sandwich but it has to be kept to a minimum. Also, good movie 👍
Oh I love this movie, it’s my go to “horror movie to show people that they probably haven’t seen”
My Dad wrote to me last night, telling me to watch this movie and then you release a Podcast on Triangle. Absolutely fantastic!!!
Absolutely loveeeee the Molly cameos 🥰🥰🥰
Holy shit no way!!! This is one of my favorite underrated horror movies!!! Omg thank you for blessing my morning
had the same reaction when I saw this episode pop up! so exciting.
Omg Chelsea saying "Drop Dead Gorgeous" unlocked an amazing old memory for me! That movie was one of the first ones I remember ever watching lol. A kill count of it would be HILARIOUS! Love you guys❤
omg i just saw this movie last week and got obsessed with it, can’t wait to listen to the podcast in the morning omw to work!
Immediately went to watch this after hearing the intro. Glad I did. An enjoyable mind bender of a movie. Thanks!
I love the silent Phantom of the Opera! Lon Chaney's look is just amazing. The book is fantastic and I've been to the musical a few times. I actually caught a review just a few days ago of Triangle over on Dark Corners so thought I'd see what you two had to say. I'll give it a look.
I watched this with ur warning at the beginning. Loved it! Absolutely wild in the best possible way
20:32 Chelsea: "I can't remember what she says."
James : "Roll clip."
My RUclips: "Shop Temu Curve and save big"
this movie is so wild. I am PUMPED for a phantom episode.
oh Phantom what? I know the 90s movie PHANTOMS... what are we referring to?
@@pneumazprobably Phantom of the Opera. There are lots of film adaptations/interpretations so that’s probably why it’ll take a while
the liam hemsworth running bit was hilarious- and as someone who loves to look for how a film supports its twists, I will be watching this!
Row V. Wave is my favorite boat name
Using mayo instead of butter to cook a grilled cheese sandwich is a game changer
Can you guys please do a podcast on The Uninvited I think it’s from 2011??? I would LOVE to hear what y’all want to discuss about it. Such an underrated film!
Idk if it’s just RUclips premium but the movie is Free to watch on RUclips itself! Great watch!
It’s on regular RUclips too! I watched this today! It was great!
Had to watch this before watching this podcast episode, and i loved the movie im glad i watched it! The synopsis does say they are on the coast of the Bermuda, which makes sense since our main character lives in Florida
