To some people on the comment section who don't understand Maria and that incident happened with Tom and Ice Cream: Maria is did not say she doesn't want to have money of her own. Maria is an MUA, she works. She had never said she will stop working when she gets married. According to her traditional values and not only her alone, a man must be able to take care of you, and your children. It's his role. Your role as a woman is to take care of the household and kids. That's the primary role of a man and a woman.
In some marriages a woman stops working when she starts having kids and her husband will support her if he's capable and if he can't it's not a train smash she can go back to work and contribute financially.

I don’t agree with the money thing. Yes he could have paid for her ice cream, it’s just an ice cream. But when my daughter first met her boyfriend they were both apprentices earning about £200 a week each. At the beginning he was wanting to buy the take aways, bring her flowers and pay for cinema tickets and then I said to her one day “hey maybe take turns, offer to pay occasionally as it’s not fair”
Should be 50/50. If he’s earning loads more and wants to pay then great, but otherwise it’s 50/50.
Also I have a son and if he was paying for everything like meals and days out and spending all his wages, his girlfriend could be saving all hers and if they split up then he’s skint and she’s got loads in the bank! Just so unfair.

I’m with you! When my husband and I dated, we took turns paying for dates/other things. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Love this interview! Its interesting that there was so much chat about Tom not paying for everything, isn't it just the same as Maria was saying about environmental influence? It doesn't make Tom un-masculine to want a shared financial life and it doesn't make Maria materialistic for wanting to be finically taken care of, just different values that don't make them compatible.

As another RUclips comment I saw said, Tom just wanted "an exotic woman" and he ain't shit for not realizing that women in general but especially brown women will anxiously offer to pay for something. Honestly though .. my white boyfriend insisted on paying for our first date, and his mother is one of the most hospitable people I know. She's even suggested he ask what I want to do when we would visit his family out of town, similarly to my parents who get offended if I sit on the couch when our large family comes over because I was supposed to offer the company the couch and I sit on the floor 😂 It IS environment, Maria's right. How is Tom a 38 year old man who lacks social cues this much?

The girl with black hair is so hilariously unhinged I loved her and the blonde is like a balance of both 🤣 i agree about the jasmine and Ollie thing, in my opinion jasmine was makin it seem like demi was an ogre or something 😂 but I think she gets the “assuming the worst” thing from her mom 😅 but still she had no faith in Ollies feelings being real.. I literally had no idea I was going to love watching this interview so much. Even tho Maria kept downplaying how much she liked that guy. It’s okay to just say “when I was in it, it was more intense but when I got out of it, I kinda snap back to reality” I felt like it was very clear she thought she was in love in that moment.

It is very hard these days to be able to support a family on a single income! I would never dream of putting such pressure on my partner. Backwards and outdated way of thinking. No get your facts straight. By the time this Tom and Maria incident happened Maria had her own money and did not suggest that she will quit her job. But what her tradition suggests is that a man should be able to support his family

I mean, I wasn't really on either of their sides as far as the argument is concerned because really it's just preference... but aren't Tom and Maria both doing different versions of the same thing? If you're calling it "old fashioned" or "judgy" for Tom to want some high-powered, business woman, educated at an elite school, then couldn't we call it "old fashioned" or "judgy" for Maria to not want a man because he doesn't pay her expenses, even down to the small things like ice cream?
I think was mean for Tom to say, or insinuate, that someone is less of a person because their job doesn't match with your ideal job preference (the way he admitted that he had a low opinion of Maria and looked down on her), but it's also mean to say someone is less of a man because their stance on finances in a relationship doesn't match your ideal preference (like the ladies here were laughing and joking and looking down on Tom throughout this interview). You just need to find people whose preferences align with your preferences.
As far as I know, both the idea that the man should pay for everything that ever gets paid for (but of course have no share in domestic and emotional labor at the home he also lives in) and the idea that a woman should go to a fancy charm school, be highly accomplished in things like knowing how to sew and sing, play the piano forte and be educated in poetry and French are historically "old-fashioned" ideas about what the other person must bring to the table because of their gender in order to be good enough. And if you want to live by those now, that's cool... because it's your preference. As long as it's your partner's preference too, it's all peachy.

Nowdays man cannot deal with strong woman and they just give up. But guess what, if you dont expect high level you wont get it. Know your worth and never settle for less. It might sound bad Anna, but you better off single. You waited few years and no ring??? That is a huge sign which shows how much he did not want you long term.
