the sound reminds me of one of those old Greyhound buses from the 1960s and 1970s. Almost midnight, so cold your fingers, hands, and arms are numb. The only warmth you feel is from the exhaust from that idling, barking Detroit in the back. There you are, with that big heavy suitcase, waiting to board that old bus and finally get the chance to warm up in there with that heater going. And then she moves, backing slowly out of there, and then off to the highway, onward to the next bus station, where all the family will be to meet you.
+John Tapp: They should sound the same. The older Greyhound GM & MCI buses and the Trailways Silver Eagles used the same basic two-stroke Detroit powerplant, although the buses used 8V-71's in them. I don't know of any buses that used any 12V's. Later Trailways Silver Eagles had an option for a turbocharged 6V-92, which some of them had.
What a Masterpiece of mechanical work! She's a real beauty! Thank You David :-) (My very first truck had a Detroit with a ten speed, it really accelerated great for a big machine, Great Fun to drive, without a trailer we could rip thru the gears like a 7 ton sports car)
Este es un camión, dotado de un motor poderoso en fuerza, con esa capacidad, debería tener otro diferencial activo para verse completo. Son ocho cilindros en v.
Seen a lot of 12v71 off road stuff in quarry and tub grinders .....one was laying on concrete fully together in YONKERS NY at domino sugar ...think it was used in a generator
How much hp are you making with this? this must be like to huge outboard v6's mounted together with low end torque and great load response. Are you running any custom expansion chambers for hp or a turbo?
Fantastic! I’m working on putting something like this together but deciding which way to go? My question is, what chassis is it on? Again, awesome job!
Is that a two stroke motor? Also, is there two blowers and what size are they? Excellent road Tractor. oh yeah is the fifth wheel functional? great work.
Thank you David. I as well. I have been trying to decide between a 3.42 and maybe a 3.07. I want to be able to run a fairly low RPM on the interstate, which is where I will spend much of the time. I haven't decided yet though. I am seeking input from guys like you, who are further along in their project than I am. Your tires appear to be about as tall as mine. Somewhere in the 42 - 44 inch range? I do have a .69 overdrive, so that will be a big help. I just hate the thought of having to do it twice though : - )
craigs list, sometimes its better to buy a complete vehicle so you can get all the nick nacks that will drive you crazy and poor at the same time. whatcha buildin?

sounds like a great start of good novel .

I bet your neighbors love that truck. Nice build!
Those Studebaker semis are super rare, and those trucks where also decades ahead of their time.
Neighbors must LOVE this guy! That's one way to edge the lawn. AWESOME Detroit sound!
there you go!!! the right length and perfect set up, This is a working piece of ART and drivable at that
nothing sounds as cool as a 2 stroke Detroit! love it!
Nothing like the sound of a Detroit.
Smokin ! and really with so much available horse power, why not ? Awesome job David
This would be a great rig for a remake of "Duel" if someone ever wanted to make one.
badass I love these old 2strokes hard to beat
America is great , we have so many crazy people, nothing stops us .
`cept millennials
James Berlo only one tops all, Donald Duck sorry Trump 😂😂😂
Best president along with Reagan in over 100 years.
the 2 stroke built america
An v12 american 2 stroke that acts like a yamaha banshee. These 12v71 are insanely fast at tractor pulls.

that thing is nasty man awesome truck absolutely loving the V12
I like how wide the front end is! Cool ride!
What a Masterpiece of mechanical work! She's a real beauty! Thank You David :-)

Best rat rod ive seen. I belive those seats are the most crude part.
Very cool ! Love them old Studebakers.
It doesn't get any cooler than that...Thanks for posting...wow...
Coolest rat rod👍🇺🇸 I wish you were behind it to see those tires spinning 😊
that truck should have been in Maximum Overdrive
That roar at 2:24 though... :O
I'll bet the neighbors love this!!
+David Colvin That thing is mean! , but I love it! Saw it around southern York co. and at the ATHS show. Just awesome.
Honestly one of the best jobs I've seen at widening especially getting the lines right on the fenders.
And the buzzin dozen sounds great.
hi, No radiator? or is it tucked Away? what did it start life as? it looks super, thanks for sharing.
rad is in the back between the frame. It was a m16, 12 ft flatbed dump truck with west shore septic service signs on the doors.
Beautiful beast
sweet ride.. sounds awesome
My neighbors would love for me to have one of these...
awesome truck, hell of a job.
absolutely badass! major props!
killerta87 I
Im gonna assume all the negative comment came from hillary voters😂😂😂😂
Or his neighbors.
Biden
Listen to the sound of this thing!
Wow, I bet the neighbours "enjoy" the noisy burnouts. Lol.
I put mufflers down the stacks, I have not done any burn outs in my driveway in a long time.
The rack sounds dead nuts.
Very Creative. Nice Stuff. You seem good at it.
That thing is freakin awesome!!!!!!

Neighbors must love it! Know I do
A wealthy neighbor's nightmare. Awesome!

Man, that old stude just looks odd when its that wide. But man, looks like an Awesome truck, hope to do an engine swap in my federal soon.
Great work!

Scary as hell :-O
Now that's a Burn Out people
look up quiet to riot customs on facebook if you liked that one!
now this is my kinda truck eeeeey haaaaa
How much hp are you making with this? this must be like to huge outboard v6's mounted together with low end torque and great load response. Are you running any custom expansion chambers for hp or a turbo?
not positive but with no turbo probably around 475 hp.
THAT'S FREAKING CRAZY AWESOME
I LOVE IT!
Holy that is sure cool
Neighbors must love those burnouts
i would
Only 3 gallons of oil was used during this video.
Superb.
What kind of gearbox do you have? I'm sure the stock Studebaker gearbox, whether it's Clark or New Process, would not handle the torque of a V12.
it is awaited!!!
Fantastic! I’m working on putting something like this together but deciding which way to go? My question is, what chassis is it on? Again, awesome job!
its all custom fab. if you watch my walk around vid. i explain everything i did. its for sale if your interested!
love it
Is that a two stroke motor? Also, is there two blowers and what size are they? Excellent road Tractor. oh yeah is the fifth wheel functional? great work.
yes,its 2stroke, 2 671 blowers,fake 5th wheel ,it covers the bateries
My new shunt truck!!
I love it I'll could do is smile . TOO COOL
Oughta put some super singles on it.
Way cool dude
This may be a stupid question but, Where's the radiator?
right behind the cab laying flat between the frame rails. check out my walk around video i explain everything.
awesome
It's beautiful 😍
Nice burnout David! What is the rear end gear ratio?
4.33 but im looking for 3.70 to 3.00 range
Thank you David. I as well. I have been trying to decide between a 3.42 and maybe a 3.07. I want to be able to run a fairly low RPM on the interstate, which is where I will spend much of the time. with the 4.33 and 740 allison i can only run 50 mph, 60 screaming!
+David Colvin L o l, that is not good! Does that transmission have O.D.? And, have you had a chance to measure your rear tire height yet?
trans 1 to 1 my street tires are 315/80/22.5, 42 in tall
Nice
If I had a truck candy apple red with a lot of gold chrome
Power:500. 600 ...700 horsepower more or less???? 2 or 4 strokes???thanks,,,the acceleration is very fast. May answer please???

David Colvin : Where is a good place to find a 4 or 6cyl Detroit at?.
craigs list, sometimes its better to buy a complete vehicle so you can get all the nick nacks that will drive you crazy and poor at the same time.
whatcha buildin?
2 stroke 12v71, uniflow scavenged
Dumb question. Where is the radiator??
in the back between the framerails
2 Stroke Detroit it's best sounding diesel.
is it the original frame? How hard was it to fit that engine in there?
no it's all custom. I didn't fit the engine in the truck, I built the truck around the engine!
David Colvin stude made trucks w deisel 3cyl in the day not that one though.
Probably the last you saw that at fuel pumps in a Pete or kw was 1985
thats a bad ass engine id like to see that in a f 550 the sound is sick id plow snow with that
Cameron Stoltie the only problem is the amount of fuel you would use! You would have to have a 200 gal capacity to plow for just a short while!
Can we get an in depth walk around like the R model?
yep, i'm working on a cool location to reveal the Crude in its finished state. stay tuned!
David Colvin sweet! Can't wait
This is amazing, great build! Is there any videos of it not filmed on a camera from 1946 as well though???? :p
Sweeeet! 👍👍
It looks kinda goofy being so wide in the front. Should have narrowed the front axle to match the stock width fenders.
hay davei',m morris's son up the road
hi, stop in somtime.
ford k282 Sounds awesome, but two 6-71' s side by side, like in a 45 ton Euclid, are awesome and different.
Nice build
I...L O V E IT1!
do you burn low ash oil in the 12v71?
yes napa 40 wt
Maybe it was two blowers.
Nice Toy!!
Put a fit wheel on it ....it's a coast to coast truck
it has a 5th wheel on it already.
That looked like a four tore fore.
I want that !!!!!!!
I need that !!!!!!!
It's for sale: facebook.com/marketplace/item/183782958953214
Where's the radiator?
