The correct answer is: "Check your Mav88 forend to see if it's a pinned model or not." If it's NOT pinned, this works. Just check first then proceed accordingly.
I noticed this after buying the Magpul fore end. Realizing it’s not going to work. Even though it clearly states on the side of the box it fits Maverick 88. My shotgun is the “pinned” model. I have decided to put the for end on my Savage Stevens shotgun. But the forend will have to be modified. As I have already started grinding the plastic away to make it fit. Now it cannot be returned.
I got hosed thanks to this video. Ordered a Maverick 88 and a Magpul foregrip. You must have an older 88 cause the new ones don’t have a slide tube. FML
I just bought a Mavericks 88, and the the action bar was not removable. It had pin holding it together. I already had a 7 3/4 action bar and use it with my Magpul furniture , it looks really good.
@@jayjayhq all you need is an action slide assembly for a 500 and what ever fore end you want. Just make sure the fore end is a compatible with the action slide assembly. take it all a part and put it together with the new parts. you're good to go.
I have a 9 year old Maverick 88 and mine is also a one piece forend. The 2 bars are pinned to the plastic and thats it.You've been lucky with the version you got, every youtube video upgrading the forend on the 88 had to buy an action tube.
My maverick 88 doesn't have a retainer nut or anything like that. On mine the two bars are pinned to the forend and there is no tube or nut whatsoever.
Some Older maverick 88's came with the slide tube from the mossberg 500 but not all. It just depends on the assembly line at the time because the forend without the tube is cheaper so it went on the maverick 88. Sometimes they run out of those at the factory and they used the slide tube assembly but if they did consider yourself lucky.
I have a Maverick 88 and I haven't really looked at my forend that well to see what you're talking about but there is a video where a guy has a Maverick 88 and his forend does not look anything like yours it doesn't have a tube to slide out those long forks have a pin on each side and they're pinned to the forend with no action tube.
dude i was literally on the mossy site with a slide tube in my cart when i saw this video...i certainly don't wanna pay for the slide tube, then the nut, then another 30-40 for the magpul when i dont have to...it was gonna cost me close to 100$ that i really did not want to spend...i am going to try this. EDIT: My maverick 88 (18.5" 12G model bought in 2017) does not have a slide tube or a nut...it is pinned..its a plastic molded one piece deal...not sure what model of maverick you have but mine is not like that...i appreciate the tip anyway.
DarkLight my maverick is close to 10 years old and is the version with the longer adjustable choke barrel (28” I think). I guess they changed them. Brownells sells the replacement 7-3/4” action slide tube for like $59 and I believe midway does as well.
That's what he's referring to near the start of the video. Those of us unlucky enough to not have the Mossberg 500 action tube assemblies have to make the upgrade if we want new furniture on the forend of our 88's.
Mine came with a metal action slide tube not pined in. Not all Maverick model 88 are manufactured the same. You would think but no. I believe mine is a 6 3/4 "

Mine if pinned 😤I’m so unlucky
Yeah OP should clarify that….
So wait are the newer serial numbered ones not pinned and the older ones are pinned?
I think they may all be different i habe a really old one and its pinned@MisterL84
**This only works with older maverick 88 models newer ones do not have a slide tube assembly at all**
What do you mean? I bought one today... waiting to pick it up though.
@@Distrusted_Citizen its pinned but im sure u know now
So I still need to buy the slide tube assembly?

On the bright side a Mossberg 500 slide tube is less than the difference between an 88 and 500.
So happy I came across this the AST’s are out of stock everywhere

@@TheRealBrownShady most m500 and m88 come with a 7 3/4. And very few m500 come with a 6 3/4. But only the m500 forend removable

Wheelsdeals which action tube is it the 7 3/4 ?
Thank you sir! Finally the answer I’ve been searching for!
Does anyone have the 20 inch maverick 88 model? I’m trying to upgrade mines
Damn. Just bought my 88 and wish it had that tube already. Looks like I’m out of luck. Lol

Brownells sells the action tube and nut. Just updated my Maverick 88 with the same furniture but had to replace the action tube.
Man you are a life saver... how do I thank you ... this trick was awesome
I have the new kind with the castle nut but the action slide tube is not long enough.
You got lucky, your Mavrick 88 came with the 500 slide. This happens from time to time. The majority of them are not removable
Thanks man, really helped me out here!!
thank you! you saved me money bro. It seems like all one piece. just super tight.
I think you just made millions of people's day because right now you can't find an action tube that 7 3/4 or 6 whatever they're not in stock anywhere.
My 88 has the castle nut, but it's the short 6 3/4 action tube. Not the 7 3/4. My 500 also has a 6 3/4.

Lossened the retainer nut??? Mine doesn't have one, at least not one that I have access to, it is molded inside of the grip.

So I can order the magpul forearm magpul stock for the 590 and it’ll work? I have a cruiser 88 and magpul stock but want forearm
yes, you are really a life saver, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
So same slide but mine may 7.75 its fit?
How did you remove the maverick 88 retainer nut, did you need a special tool or did you use your fingers?
i have the maverick 88 20 ga will this work?
Hello i have a grip fore end and i cant take off the maverick fore end can you do a vid on how to please thanks
Did it work out?
Do you have the part number on that. Magpul forend?
I have a maverick 88 purchased in 1994 and it's pinned, no tube.
You're referring to the two short pins, one on each side, that hold the bars to the forend/grip?
so does the stock Maverick 88 come with a 6 or a 7 3/4 in” action slide tube?
Neither. Maverick 88 comes with a pinned forend, not a metal action tube slide.
