Marylin Monroe’s, Clark Gables and Montgomery Clift’s Swan Song film. They all gave excellent performances in their last film.
And the chemistry was good between them all. As well as Eli Wallach.
Basically, all three men were trying to win over Monroe’s affections and win her over. But they were trapping Wild Horses 🐎 which horrified her and made her hate them all.
So in the end, Gable gives up on the hunt and relents. He changes his ways and they ride off together.
It turns out to be a film filled with regrets and then redemption.
It’s well directed by John Houston. And it’s in classic black and white.
Old Hollywood the way it used to be with classic stars who could actually act and who millions of people followed and even idolized.
Rarely is anything made like this type of film. It’s so real it seems like a documentary almost.
A classic Hollywood film I would recommend to anyone.
    👏🏻😎

Good review of a movie with great acting. Man Who Would Be King is one of my favorite John Huston movies.

Do we know if there were scenes cut out? I wonder if there’s another cut of the film that would work better

Hey mate, just thought this was a really good review. You said exactly what I felt towards the abrupt disapearance of Thelma Ritter and Eli Wallach. I actually get pretty upset about how Wallach was treated as a co-star but he definetely has a big part in the development. And I thought you were going to mention something about the aftermath of the movie as Gable and Monroe's death within a year and down-the-hill Clift's career created an aura around the movie, giving it a feeling of being almost a semi-biopic of the three of them. Anyhow, loved you channel (and sorry for the babbling haha) x

I like your dissection of this movie. I think you may have a opportunity to do this for a living. I have not I have not yet seen this movie. I was looking at your reviews and I will be looking at others to determine if it is worth my time. Everything with Marilyn Monroe is usually bad. The typecasting that they stuck her in was bad. Very much of the times.

It's funny that you say that because Marilyn hated the role of Roselyn. She felt the character lacked depth and once again she was playing a ditzy blonde only without the humor. Even so this role shows what she could have been if they had given her a chance. Marilyn and Montgomery stole the movie imo, they were great especially in scenes together.

I love this film so much, but unfortunately the screenplay that I read back in 2008 was much better , MM was at her best gave such a wonderful performance next to her earlier film Don't Bother to knock, Gable was perfect for the role , Montgomery lift was at his best stole every scene he was in, (even the supporting cast Thelma Ritter and Eli Wallach we're amazing) , nevertheless there was something missing in this film like u are watching acting classes not a movie I guess that's why people didn't appreciate it very much back then.

First of all, you have no idea about the context of this movie, and you don't even address the author, which is Arthur Miller. The context of the actors and the author are so crucial in understanding what this movie even means and what it is all about. Do your research, and you will get better insight, instead of just blabbing like you know anything. Good luck mate.

I totally agree with you and thanks for this opinion, then I don't need to write more about mine. It's really close to nothing one could learn from such a review. Achieve some knowledge first plus intellectual development, before you start doing lectures.
