Re-learning Jazz all over again (after a brain injury) from you, Sandra, makes ME 'Smile'. 😊 I don't retain much in my head these days but I keep trying and your videos help me do that because of your simply and clear approach. It's really hard for me to have to do this after 45 years in the industry at the pro level, and now feeling like a first day novice beginner again, but I'm determined to have a break through one day. Thank you.
6ths are sick an easy way to make a copy melody arrangement. Although we just play two notes, it already sounds like a chord, bc chords consider of 6ths (inverted thirds). Glad you like it!
Thank you Marcos! Isn't it funny, that a sad sounding song is called Smile? That's Charlie Chaplin's kind of humor, I guess 😊. Who would've thought he was such a great composer too? ❤️
thx Sandra great lesson and for me an introduction to sixths. really like the sound. also recognise them from blues tunes. youre set up and teaching are really very good...i keep coming back and happy to pay the little extra
Wonderful lesson, Sandra! And, your usual beautiful teaching style, which is so refreshing! I’ve always loved this song - it brings up memories of “Charlie.” Also, for some reason, makes me think of Glenn Miller’s Moonlight Serenade. Those were the days😉... Well done👍 😄
The best version i could find !!! Love the classy chords!!! It will be a challenge for me as the chords are new to me but once learned never forgotten. Thank you
Ah ha! challenging yet again, but I think I have this one. Such an amazing song and to think it was written by Charlie Chaplin. Lovely arrangement and thank you for the 6ths lesson. How very cool! Maybe, just maybe, I will become something of a jazz guitarist with your help. As always,"Vielen dank!"
Perfect. I’m trying to create my own version of this track for my chanel, but I don’t have a large repertoire of Jazz chords...... Enter Sandra Sherman! Thank you Sandra, I will “cherry pick” a few of your lovely chord voicings and mix it all up with a bit of “me”. Obviously I will give your channel a shout out, since you’re the brains behind my attempt 🤣
Olá Sandra, tudo bem? Suas aulas são espetaculares, com ótimo gosto musical. Hello Sandra, how are you? His classes are spectacular, with great musical tastes.
Nice lesson, I like the way you have really integrated the chords and melody, it has a piano feel to it. There is too much chord melody out there that is just hunt and peck chord/melody without enough melodic context in the transitions. Watching again...!
Hi Sandra, I notice the 96bpm backing track seems to be longer than the 80bpm backing track. There an extra section in it. What should I be playing at this point. G
I can't recall, but usually I loop the tracks. Is the file labeled something like 3x Loop? Also, often there is no more melody in the last two measures, which means the lesson ends 2 neasures early, while the backing track plays it till the end.
Hi! Thank u so much from Russia) It's so hard to find here good jazz guitar lessons. And u explain everything so easy! It would really fantastic, if u could make a tutorial for "Put it on the Ritz" or "Why don't You Do Right"
If you haven't saved them they're not on your computer. Please email me (always! The comment section is not agood place fir this, bc I don't get to see each single comment). Shermanlessons@gmail.com and I'll send you the file.
No the faster one 96 doesn't end after the two passes it keeps going like it didn't finish on the same measure. Seemed like it should have stopped at 3/4 of the way through but kept going? I sped up the slow track to 96 that worked.
You may want to check out the jazz chord tutorials in my chords playlist first. Chord melody shouldn't be attemoted without a basic knowledge of jazz chords. You'll also memorize tunes easier that way! Chord Melody is the kings discipline. You need to know your basics first!

Your story reminds me of Pat Martino. He had a brain tumor and had to relearn playing guitar. He learned from his own records. Kudos to your efforts 👏
You do such lovely work and make demos we lesser guitarists can tackle, thank you!
Thank you for your lovely words. ❤️
Very nice Sandra, another one for the repertoire, and an introduction to 6ths as a bonus 🙂.

Thanks for teaching me a new concept (6ths), along with this great Chaplin tune!
This song is really beautiful, thank you!
I love your videos!!!

Hell yea! There is a remarkable resemblance between Smile and Moonlight Serenade.
Had to check it out and yes they sound similar in the beginning. Interesting.
Gerd Van Juuten ..:yes, Chaplin’s Smile preceded Miller’s Serenade by about three yrs. ...annnnd they are both in F😉.
@@barrysebastian9584 Fascinating
Merci beaucoup! Tu m'as fait sentir des notes que j'ignorais.,..
The best version i could find !!! Love the classy chords!!! It will be a challenge for me as the chords are new to me but once learned never forgotten. Thank you
Thank you! Vefore you play Chord melody, you should know the basic jazz and tension chords. Check out my Chords Playlist to find them.
The 6th intervall sound really good on „Smile“- like they were invented for that tune😀best wishes from Berlin!
That's probably because the melody moves stepwise. So, no jumping around the fretboard and the sixths glide smootly 😊
Good lesson
Excellent lesson
Thank you! ❤️
Thanks Sandra for notation and backing tracks!
Glad you enjoy it, Erling 🎶❤️
You are amazing from joe thanks
One of my personal favourites
Charlie Chaplin is your style, I guess 😊

You sure can do this one! Sixths are a super easy way to harmonize a melody, once you've got the flow with them. Go for it! 😊❤️

Super good lesson here Sandra and once again, you made me smile! Good for you!! 😆
I like making people smile ☺. In a world with so much sadness in, music gives us the opportunity to escape.
As Les Paul once said to Chet Atkins while recording Chester & Lester. You got that right Chet! 😆

Hi Donald, thank you for your very kind words. That's a really nice compliment.
Nice work ....congrats what's the model your guitar ????
This one's a Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion.
Lovely chords. The C13sus4 in phrase 4, could that be a straight bar on the 3rd fret (Cmajor7)? Sounds nice lower down.
Yes, then you have a C9sus4. The pitch would be in the same octave, though. There's no difference, just a different voicibg in the same octave.
Siempre bella. Mmmmm

Great Post! Gave you a Sub. ……Kjell 🎸 👍
buen día que backing track utilizas para el acompañamiento, donde lo puedo obtener, gracias.
I'm sorry, , I don't speak Spanish. Please put your question into Google Translator.

Hi Alexander, thank you for your kind words! I'll look into those songs.
My head exploded hold on let me put back my brain and ill finish the video lol
😂
sounds like the song for Million Dollar Baby movie
I would have to check that out. Someone said it reminds him of "Moonlight Serenade", which is totally true.
hi Sandra, i made a Paypal payment yesterday - I then saw the TABS - but I forgot to save ......anyway i can recover them, please?

Shermanlessons@gmail.com and I'll send you the file.
Sandra, I just paid for the backing track and clicked 'Return to Merchant' and the site couldn't be found.
I've just emailed you the track. Enjoy 😊
Purchased it but the 96 beat track has a problem its not the same as the 80 bpm track in its form.
You mean the backing track is too fast?
No the faster one 96 doesn't end after the two passes it keeps going like it didn't finish on the same measure. Seemed like it should have stopped at 3/4 of the way through but kept going? I sped up the slow track to 96 that worked.
It has multiple chorusses. I usually wrote the numver of chorusses into the name file. Like... 96bpm - 3x. Du means it's at tempi 96 and has 3 loops.
No it doesn’t sound like it has 3 complete loops listen to it and play along I’m lost after the second loop.
Sandra lessons flor de lis Djavan
I don't know what that means, but I assume it's something good 😊
I guess I'm just not that smart. I don't come up with stuff like that.
