I'm 66 years old and I still get the chills down my back listening to this song when I when I was 15 years old I was around 15 16 years old just amazing David Gates and bread what a band what a great band wrote some beautiful songs
Agreed , I’ll turn 70 next month . 16 - 17 years old down at OC , New Jersey in the summers on the boardwalk listening to BREAD and all the fun I had…. Then the draft got me at 18 …. Still , Bread , Cat Stevens, Beatles … I want to go back !
What’s hard to believe is you’re turning 80 this year David ........where did the time go? God bless you and your family and Bread. You have shared your amazing voice and most beautiful songs ever written. Your music will never cease to bring joy and happiness to the world, not just me. I’m so grateful and thankful for your voice and your amazing talent, you are a gift from the Lord above.❤️💞❤️💞❤️
Yes yes yes he is the best live him as he came to the uk years ago and at Birmingham uk fantastic beautiful concert with every end of a song he told the story and before with sometimes very special warm jokes I'll never forget
I’m also 65. I’m listening to Bread songs because I’m really depressed. I for some reason need to be more sad. The group with the saddest songs are Bread. I choke up just listening to David Gates sing them. If I really want the works, it’s got to be Diary. The last verse rips my heart out every time. I’m going through that now after 37 years.
@@michaelwalton9685 65 here also. Been listening to their songs and they have touched me especially Diary, Everything I Own and Aubrey. Brings back so many memories happy and sad.
Its as simple as this, David Gates with his band Bread wrote some of the most beautiful songs, he also had the perfect voice to sing them. Its a real shame you rarely hear his music on the radio today
I'm still in love with your voice, David Gates. Ever since I was a kid. I noticed you and your wife will be married 60 years this year. Wow. That's amazing. Bless you both.
Jesus how unreal is that 60 years im not even that age close though...If i had not of started out at 14 with guy age of my mother at the time who was abusive ..Maybe i would of had something long lasting?? Naaahh stupid me...Congrats to David Gates & his wife.A love like that is hard to find these days.It takes a man whose appreciative of his wife.Even the Bible says treat her right.
BUT ..... It's STILL around for us..... I really miss those days.... Was just a kid then , but the radio was always on , and the '70s we're tumultuous but kinda great too....THAT America is gone forever
1973 born here with a Mother that always had her little black radio on with a piece of masking tape marking her favorite station. I grew up with Annie Dreamboat Annie, love that song, early Heart, Bread, Dan Fogelberg, The Moody Blues, etc. Sometimes I’ll play 70’s soft rock to calm down. Takes me back to playing on my swing set, blue skies smilin at me, no cares.🐝🦋🌻🌞
David Gates an unheralded genius, such a talented singer songwriter. The fact that we are still listening to his beautiful music nearly 50 years on says it all.
@@UnitedSoundVideo 'Unheralded' is different from 'underrated'. Actually, as a guy who lived thru that time as a teenager, I can verify that he was unheralded. The band name got more acclaim than David Gates, and if you see an interview with him, you understand why. Totally down to earth and humble.....and uber talented.
This is a proper song, written by a proper songwriter and sung by a proper singer. They don't make them like that anymore. I've loved Bread's music since the early 1970s; it just doesn't age.
He had mine years ago at age 15. Would have been great to hangout just to know anything about him. He seemed very sweet and gentle. He was 16 years older than me to begin with. So at the time of this song he was 31.
It’s always remarkable when you listen to him perform live how much he sounds like the original recording. The orchestral arrangements are so perfect and beautiful
Indeed, dear Sejrec56. That is a long-forgotten beauty of why a paying audience watch an artist performing live, as opposed to just listening to their CD ... or more appropriately ... vinyl single or LP.
I was in a band in High School with his son Rick in 1978. As soft-spoken as he sings. Biggest influence on me as a songwriter. Timeless. Awesome to hear this truly live performance. No playback, real orchestra, no auto-tune. Also lovely to see David not playing to the camera so much. As natural as can be. Gave me chills. I can honestly say they don't make 'em like they used to. Long live David Gates. The world's a beautiful place when we hear his music. What a gift he gives us all.
Those sincere words will ever pierce and echo into the future, dear David-of-Holler. David-Gates-and-Bread are an ever-exportable treasure of America that America itself might not even know or have totally forgotten ... just like The Beatles are to Liverpool-and-England.
David Gates, Gordon Lightfoot, Jim Croce, and America were truly the best of the 70's when it came to storytelling. It was great being a teenager then. Is there anyone who grew up during that time who wouldn't love to go back?
We get overly emotional because no matter we say can never fully emotionally express our agreement with the words of the dear Nicolas-of-Ocampo. David Gates is just one of those 70s gents who cannot be equalled by anyone outside his era ... and if he is, we shall only be very pleasantly surprised ... if not eternally dumbfounded and gobsmacked.
I was always drawn to this song because it was so rare to hear one about a would-be lover with such self-confidence, knowing and believing that time was indeed on his side. Something to aspire to!
This song goes out to Tracy Lynn from me. It's the same age as you, and it's always been yours from my heart ❤️ to yours.... You know who I am deep down inside. You always have.... You got all the way through. No one else has, or ever will.... ✝️=❤️
As a huge BREAD fan, ( the greatest soft rock group of ALL time ! ), this is my very favorite and takes me right back to high school ! I would play this song over and over and over.
Brings back memories of the good part of my young life. Damn ! This guy was extremely good looking. When I was in my young teenage years I knew of the band , loved their music , played a few of their songs on my piano, but never bought their album. I never knew who the lead singer was. Didn't know what he looked like. But, I guess it was for the better, cause I would of been so jealous of his really good looking person. For his music melted the soul.
1970: this remains my favorite Gates/Bread song. He wrote and arranged it twice; for the first group LP in 1969, and made it slower, lowered the key and added strings when they needed a second single to follow "Make It with You" in 1970. A master singer, songwriter, arranger and conductor. For Debbie; in my mind that room's still there for you, though I know you'll never return. Be at peace.
We are lucky to be in this generation of best of the best singing/ song writers of this era! Their music is part of our chilhood memories. Thanks to david gates I know how to play guitar because of their music wich I loved the most.! Sad to think we are finite being 😥 wish they stay longer and make more music! But thanks anyway.
Jose, I agree. The 70s was a great time as far as music. 1971, I was 16yrs old and in high school and in love. Two years later I joined the United States Marine Corps in 1973. Again the 70s were great, a 15 yr old in 1970, to a young adult. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sergeant.
Growing up when this kind of music was on the radio, seemed so natural. After hearing the monotonous drivel today, I realize it was a blessing. I totally agree with the comment about Karen Carpenter. Two beautiful voices
What ever happened to people and music like this! My heart swells with the love of these times! These poor kids today have no idea of what our generation felt and went through! Maybe when we are on our death bed it might make some kind of understanding! If they put down their dog gone phones and relate to humanity! And just try to relate and get along! Love to all! Let's try to find the similarities and find common ground and love despite our differences! Love one another and do the right thing for mankind! Peace and love to all of us! God bless us all! Just me.......!
Through LP's, then 8 tracks, or cassettes to the most modern form of music in today's world, Bread formed part of my repertoire and Collection forever.
My girlfriend back in the late 70's would go home and listen to her Bread album after a fight. I still have a special place in my heart for her. I was an ass and I miss her. Should've never let her go!

David Gates was one the best singer-songwriters from the 70s. Beautiful melodies Beautiful Voice!

Absolutely lovely!
You know ?!? We agree a thousand percent, dear Bocobob. David Gates was a gently soft yet powerful power of those 1970s and throughout eternity.
He could write about a lonely rock and turn you into a dribbling mess.
That’s talent.
One of my big regrets is that I didn't see a lot of these groups in the 80's when they were still young.

Women of old were special.
It's almost cruel how sometimes time itself does not let you forget.......

I've had one of their albums for about 45 years now. I am getting old and sure miss being young and innocent.
Kimo young and I sent Lol. Cacasions terrible history against black people. Yea right I like to see you tell that to the most high. Your delusional

You ain't never lied. 🎼 ☎ 📻 📺 👍
Yes we did, 67, and going strong...rock-on folks...

Hallelujah. The crap that passes for music today...nails on a chalkboard. And ALL of it sung by sluts and gamgbanfers of one variety or another.

Truth from dear Peter-of-Glynn.

And he is actually singing, not lip Synching or pitch correction!!!
Yes, but on other clips they play back,.,.
Stating the bloody obvious

That’s a bit brutal lol many amazing young musicians they’re just not as mainstream as the ones that obviously annoy you
all the crap you hear today, you’re right especially ghetto trash rap
I can’t stand that shit

Thanks for sharing this video! And thank you David Gates for the great music.
