I was in Japan for three months in 1966. Aside from the wonderful sight seeing it is also a lesson in cleanliness. Not a speck of trash! Culturally this cleanliness has been with the Japanese almost from the dawn of the country. It will amaze tourists, and should amaze and inspire everyone.

hmmm,... in Kyoto, hiking up to Doshisha Cemetery is the best, so beautiful and absolutely no foreign tourists. In Osaka I would probably go to the history museum, it has a partial full scale model of the Naniwa Palace. Anyway, a lot of these places are too touristy ... I really prefer Beppu (for bathing) and Hakodate (for ultimate yummy seafood)
I've been to Japan many times first time was as an American soldier to be at Tokyo,then was sent to Seoul and then to Pusan the US president was President Truman that was 1951 to 1953 later on we my wife and I traveled to Japan many cities like Kobe ate famous Kobe beef yummy.
