At home, Benny, listened to her husband Eddy as he told her about the five Vasquez boys who were being neglected. She couldn't say no - and the pair welcomed five new children into their home. Two years later, the Sanchez-Berrios family shares their thoughts and feelings about their experiences.
This is a story of a loving family.
For Xavier, Aidan, Ethan, Peyton and Logan, it is the story of their future.

Can't imagine the stress Xavier carried on his shoulders, holding his family together. Going out as a young child to find a better life for his little siblings. A 13 year old boy who should be enjoying youth and education and friendships, carrying the responsibility of the world on his shoulder. I really feel for him.
Hi, yes Xavier experienced things no kid at age 13 should experience. On a positive note these same experiences has made him such a humble young adult. Xavier is do great and is now thriving in college.

I had my whole childhood as a mini mammy with my cousin and seven youngsters to care for and I still do I would have preferred them to have good homes 🏡 🙃

Isn’t that sad, how cruel other kids can be? My kids would never poke fun at a child who smelled, they would come home and ask why or how we could help that child. Parents, raise your kids with empathy, please. Kindness is important. So are manners.

I love how quiet, humble but a powerful figure the father is like a Lion sitting back watching over his heard, then you have the beautiful mother who is unstoppable, just fights for her children like a lioness. This family is all class, no amount of money can buy what these two parents have. These kids are smart, good looking and grateful , I’ve watched it twice and it moves me every time.

That adoptive mama is a fighter. I love her passion for her boys and their well being for change in the system. Her honesty is so inviting. She may have been reluctant to start foster care but she was definitely the right woman for these kids.

Had me crying. I grew up poor with an abusive stepfather. Education was the key for me. I ended up becoming a physician. These boys are good looking and bright, and their new parents are ANGELS. Love is powerful, and they now have the loving family that every child deserves!

I was bounced around from one place to another but it wasn't considered 'foster care'. I was the youngest and the only girl who no one wanted or couldn't care for.
It was a hell.

Kauser the fact that you recognise what it takes to foster/adopt means you are going to be great. I've fostered children who were hard to be placed due to anger filled behaviour. There will be hard times, times filled with smiles and laughter and they will test you to see where your boundaries are especially if they have already been in many temporary foster placements. They are trying to see if they will be moved on if they behave badly etc. There is a lot of psychology behind how abuse etc impacts a child (they tend to need to process what occured at each life stage) and I suggest you have a good understand on psychology before you complete the application for fostering. My advice would be to research it as much as you can and talk to parents who have fostered and adopted about their experience. I wish you all the best, trust yourself and make sure you have a good support system around you. In my country I was promised all sorts of help including a counselor for each child but the reality is they don't have the time or resources to do that. Xx

There are no words of praise sufficient to encompass what these parents have done. I've worked as a therapist with children in foster care. If we had more foster parents like this, it would be a very different system. Benny is absolutely right, the system deeply needs change. At least we can be grateful these boys found such a wonderful home.

My father and his brothers lived in an orphanage when they were little, my grandpa was away because of the war. Their biological mother didn’t take care of them at all. My father still have painful, vivid memories of that time. It shaped the man and father he became. This couple has changed these boys’ world. They are amazing. I’m so happy for everyone in this family.

I agree with foster mom i did the samethings she dose i always pleaded with DCF TO LET THE KIDSi have in my household to see there family, as she said if when they found out these parents need help try with them before removing them from their parents ,i have been doing foster parenting for 17 years + and i enjoy helping out these children, when they leave they always want to come back, which we have good relationships God bless this family,

These kids were saved like in the nick of time l mean this is a miracle. The adoption in the courtroom at the end was really moving.

Thank you so much Eva. Organizing the boys biological funeral was very emotional for all of us, but I knew it was something that had to be done so that the boys would be able to visit their mom whenever they felt the need to.

I am and I’ve adopted 11 kids and, in perfect health at age 79, will be soon adopting a teen from Bulgaria, the only country who doesn’t discriminate because of age. Benny & Eddy you are fantastic parents, and to take on 5 wonderful brothers, and to make them part of your family is truly remarkable. Xavier kept his brothers together and made sure they weren't split up, so sad their birth parents were druggies who couldn't possibly look after the family. The boys won't ever forget their past, but the future is magical having a real family bond, which will last forever 👍!!

Yes! I couldn’t have said it better! The world would be a much brighter and happier place if ALL humans treated each other with kindness,respect, love and compassion as these parents did! I recently watched a news video regarding India and the tragedy that is unfolding. The comments I read was so heartbreaking and unsettling. People putting blame, pointing fingers, talking politics, but yet very little offered financial help. A lot offered prayers. Prayers are great. God is amazing. But as humans WE all should be digging deep and giving what we can to help others. Our world is sad and I’m sure the way humans treat each other, breaks Gods heart. Is it really that hard to show compassion, be compassionate! To give, to love, to show kindness, to help those in need. Those 440,000 children that need a loving foster home, id jump at the chance in a heartbeat to help as many of them as I can just as I would give to help those people in India. You are so right, our world would be so much brighter. Gods blessing to you and your family, and may Gods Angels wings protect and guide these boys and their wonderful (and brave parents lol) every day. What a happy ending for these young men.

This story bring me to tears, I have two adopted sisters and my parents raise seven of their own, and my parents were foster parents. I live with my parents when my sisters came to live with us, I wrote them a short story of two little girls needing a mother and father, and God send his angels to search a mother with room in her heart to love and raise another child.

I was adopted at the age of 6 and it took me a year and a half to fully trust
My sons can completely relate, it took them a while to build trust with all of us. Thank god they were willing to open their hearts and accept all of us.
I am bawling my eyes out at the overwhelming love and kindness of Mom and Dad. Dad seems so kind and Mom is wonderful too. Wow! Glad I do not have to be measured by their stick. I would be found coming up short. Such love for the right thing and the joy these young men give and will give. Wow.

Hi Ana, yes Xavier did really take on the parenting role at a very young age. He is amazing. Xavier is now in college and he is thriving and doing amazing.
