I love this method for as far as you went but since most hats begin at the other end it would be awesome to see you finish the hat!

I’m a beginner and those extra needles look like a life saver so much easier

Using thicker yarn (worsted weight) is great for a beginner, too!

Hello, very new beginner with knitting. Any chance of a video with the rest of the hat? Thanks so much!

This is very helpful! Can't wait to try this...on your first row of knitting into the crochet stitches, are you going through both the front and the back of the crochet stitch? Or just the front of the crochet stitch? Thanks for this great idea!

I went through both loops. Either way would work, just be consistent with which way you choose.

The single crochet onto the hairband is identical to the cast on for a Christmas wreath ornament, it just uses fewer stitches.

I can barely get my needle in the crochet stitch

    • @KristinOmdahl

Try making your stitches looser so you can get into them better. Either with your tension or by increasing the hook size.

well I ripped out the one hat I made because it's to lose at the top so I'm going to try and do it top down, it's the copy cat on ravelry messy bun hat, so far so good
