  • Generator Quite Box! I made this generator noise reduction box to make a generator more quiet! This generator sound shed is made from OSB plywood and polyester flame retardant acoustic sound panels! This generator noise reduction box really helps to dampen generator noise! In my sound testing this sound shed reduced noise by 8 decibels!
    Project cost breakdown:
    7/16 OSB Plywood $22
    Acoustic Panels $99
    3m Super 90 $13
    7” USB Fan $20
    1 1/2” aluminum Angle $25
    4 Hinges $7
    Total $186

Great build. I like the ability to break down and store the box. Or just leave over the genset to keep the gen well stored. Thanks for the video.

So, this is huge. My aunt maintains a family cabin and she needs to use the generator all the time. There are no neighbors, but it isn't exactly pleasant every time there's a need to recharge devices. 8 decibels is quite a bit... a game changer really. I'm not surprised about CO2 or heat not being a problem. That fan should be more than adequate for her needs, since the generator is not on 24/7. Plus, she can always add another fan if there's concern.

The polyester soundproofing material is very effective! Thanks for watching!

What about heat? I have a westinghouse 9500tfc which is bigger open and makes some heat. Nice rock scape,
Did landscaping for 15yrs, man did have i moved some rock. Best part is garden sprayer (chlorine rated) with pool chlorine 1-3 ratio per gallon water tsp dawn(makes it stick, same in weed spray), coat rock just enough to start to drip but not run off, by time you use the whole backpack worth, you can go back and rinse with hose, and new rock again, cost a lot but last forever and cost of mulch after a few years is about the same. Save money in alot of ways, just heard heat video thanks for sharing

What the main benefits of the polyester panels over to foam ones used in the sound box ? Fr?

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  7 месяцев назад +1

The polyester seems to do a superior job at dampening sound compared to foam. Great question!

My champion generator from Cabela's is so loud it's embarrassing! I want to do exactly what you're doing here. I'm concerned with increasing heat. After months of use, is your box sound proof enough without creating so much heat? Any other problems you've come up with?

We have not had any problems with this design concerning heat. Here is a video that I made a few months ago heat testing and sound testing this box. ruclips.net/video/Wn_GF1RQoow/видео.htmlsi=m--aMUs-MKxOBemC

How did you arrive at the $99 price for the acoustic panels? The current Amazon price for one of the 24"x48" (1152 sq in) panels is $92.99 and it looks like you would need 3 of those. I calculated approx. 2,950 sq in is required (or 2.6 panels). That comes to $279 before taxes - yikes!

And Home Depot sells a Traffic Master branded Rib Charcoal 18in.x27in.Dirt Resistant Door Mat made out of polyester fabric and rubber for $4.76/each. Six of those would provide the coverage area and would cost only $28.56. Might be worth a try?

    Speaking from experience...
Its a GREAT way to kill a perfectly good generator prematurely due to overheating. Generators need proper ventilation.

Thanks for sharing! We made an extensive heat testing video for these boxes and the results were pretty surprising. You can check out that video here▶️ruclips.net/video/Ty8aJ2Eh_WI/видео.htmlsi=di0iQ1Nt9st1xttL
