Season 20, Episode 09, For the Defense
After a key witness for a murder trial is found dead outside her hotel room, Detectives Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Bernard (Anthony Anderson) become involved in a spiraling case that unravels into an intricate conspiracy, leaving additional witnesses' lives in danger and Rubirosa in the crossfire. Outstanding acting, that "lawyer" was chilling, worthy of Donnie Brassco.
He's not a lawyer- if he's not the bloody consigliere I'll eat my favorite " I LOVE SF " baseball cap. Lawyers at least pretend to be human.

Exactly @thePierre58. He oozed creepy.
@@tatianalyulkin410 The two often overlap.
He's probably that Cartel's lawyer, who often doubles as the consigliere.
Just sending him to the station at all is a thinly veiled threat to the girl.
“Maybe a little birdie told him”
Plot twist: The pigeon was a loose end.
Way to put in a stupid prop to have the frontcover joke that this show always has.
That's how you know a show went stale.
@@MrBiteme39 Everyone’s aware that the effects are shoddy at worst, but people watch the show for the story and characters not so much the smoke and mirrors.
The birdie was the messenger and they shot it.
They killed the stool pigeon after they had no more use for him/her.
Spoiler alert:
The police arrest Rainey for Maggie’s murder and stash Paige in a safe house, where a hitman attempts to assassinate her. Bernard kills him, but the attempt scares Paige out of testifying. Connie realizes that the hotel was one she and Marcus Woll used to hide other witnesses. She, Cutter and Jack realize that Woll was the only one who could’ve passed the information along. They start to investigate other cases to see if Woll had done this before, and they learn that once in the DAs office, a defense witness that could’ve killed one of Will’s big cases disappeared before he was set to testify. They arrest him, but not before a judge dismisses the murder case against Rainey for insufficient evidence. They proceed against Woll, who reveals to Cutter that he had an intimate relationship with Connie while he worked in the DAs office. As Cutter investigates the other homicide, he learns that the wife of the dead witness spoke to someone from the DAs office telling her where her husband was the Eve before he went missing. That attorney wasn’t Woll, however, it was Connie. Connie decides to list herself as an unindicted co co-conspirator so she can testify against Woll, as her testimony is the only way they can establish that Woll was assisting in getting witnesses killed. When Woll takes the stand, Cutter cunningly gets him to declare that “he never killed anyone,” opening the door for him to bring up Maggie’s death at the trial. Once cornered, Woll and his attorney say they’ll give up Rainey in exchange for a deal. Cutter, who taped the conversation, uses it to give Rainey a deal to put Woll behind bars.

This is why I approve of more cops taking justice into their own hands if the community can't, though it should only be after original justice is tried.

No, he was sent by Rainey, probably to threaten her
One can only imagine how terrified Paige Regan would be if she were a real person really in that situation. I hope this episode is not just entertaining, but a cautionary tale about being care about you get involved with.
Shouldn’t have been cheating on her boyfriend.
Jonathan Cake is deliciously wicked as the crooked attorney. And I was so happy to watch Van Buren having an appetite after going through chemo. ❤️❤️❤️

I put the cars price a conversion calculator and that guy was way off. 35,000 Argentinian peso is less than $300.
That is today's value of the Argentine peso, this episode was shot in 2009 when the exchange rate between USD was 1 ARS = 0.26 USD. Making 35,000 just over 9,000$. Meaning the show is correct, it's now 0.0056 to the US dollar.
You know this is old because that same car worth more than AR$ 870K due economy inflation.

From the moment I saw the actress that played Paige, I knew I recognized her, but couldn't place her.. I finally realized it's Betty Gilpen! This was early in her career, but she is amazing, and this showcases what was to come.

3:36 what does "think i fold them" mean?
or did he say fooled them?
Oo can they lie like that?
if you mean at the end lying to the obviously crooked lawyer.. I would think they could. The woman told them she didnt call for a lawyer, that would imply she doesnt want one yet. A lawyer cant just force his representation on you just because he knows your boss.
thats probably fine
she said she didn't ask for a lawyer. so he isn't representing her. they don't have to tell him that she is there. he is representing her employer. and it is none of his business to know where she is unless she wants to tell him.
Its a good thing that they did: he was the bad guy and was trying to get at and kill her.
