An ugly child custody battle is cause for attempted murder, while Cutter deals with some triggering personal issues from his past.
Season 20, Episode 18, Brazil
When an environmental scientist, Dr. Oscar Silva (Elliot Villar), is poisoned during a global warming symposium, Detectives Bernard and Lupo initially suspect competitors from Dr. Silva's field of study. It is soon discovered that Dr. Silva is involved in a messy custody battle with his wife's (Tammy Blanchard) ex-husband, Phillip Shoemaker (Tony Hale), and the focus of the investigation quickly shifts to the victim's family. Meanwhile, the case becomes personal for EADA Cutter as it stirs up unpleasant memories from his own past.

That medical examiner is more of an veteran than either of the detectives, and I find that hilarious.
Her & Cragen (Dann Florek) are the two most consistent cast members, IIRC, followed by Logan (Chris Noth) & Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson)
Job for life :-)
She's been there since forever
@@uberxchuck944 supposed you forgot McCoy?
Anita has been on L/O longer than any of the characters listed in this thread (1991-2010). Probably explains why DW gave her a job on Chicago Med as Head of Patient and Medical Services. She's been employed by Wolf Films/Wolf Entertainment for 25 years!!!
For those who want the ending and do not want to pay, the attacker was a flat Earth conspiracy theorist who was the puppet master behind the scenes.
Sounds like Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks NBA team
Um, no. That's not what happened.
AHHHHH!!! You can't just end it there!!! You guys are killing me!!! Can you please start uploading the 2-3 vids per episode like you used too???
Yeah I wish they would
They did leave us all hanging. I don't remember Law & Order posting 2-3 vids from the same episode. I've always only seen 1 ten minute video on YT leading me to watch an entire episode which would turn into me binging on an entire season. Vicious cycle.
I see these comments on every video.
You know these are teasers don't you? That's the whole idea, to get you interested just enough for you to be frustrated enough to go and pay for the episode.
If they gave you more, they'd loose that draw.
@@fredsmith-kingofthelunatic7810 yes I do know that actually, however they use to do 3 video clips per episode, to give the viewer just a little more context or to add in a twist, and that's what I was talking about!!! I didn't ask for full episodes anywhere in my comment, maybe you should read it again!
@@CC-si3cr not all episodes have them, but if you watch a clip get the season & episode numbers and then search it on YT. The do more regular L&O episodes than they do SVU.
This show needs to get more credit.. really breaks down LAW AND ORDER..
lol no.
@jilomohammad8078 how so?
As a data scientist and former physicist, I have to say that the idea that you could blackmail a scientist for having said "We have to adjust these data hiccups" is ridiculous. Data is regularly messy and almost always has anomalies or "hiccups" that you need to need to figure out how to deal with. That's a normal process, and completely different than falsifying data.
Out of context, the sentence might be a little embarrassing, and require a brief explanation, but it's certainly not something that you could blackmail someone with because it could "end their career." It would be significantly worse for the blackmailer, who would presumably have to admit to committing a crime to obtain the e-mail.
true but I think it was more about how others would react to the news, yeah it not carrier ender but like he said "global warming deniers will use any excuse to create doubt where there is clarity" the scientific community would understand but the general masses will just see a man who lied
That’s a lot of assumptions. You have no idea what else was said.
As a criminologist we work on data not assumptions
@@erkful I'm not making any assumptions at all. The clip literally shows the detectives reading the single sentence I quoted and saying "sounds like they were fudging their data." If this was a real-life conversation I would say these were bad detectives with a poor understanding of how science works. (Of course, they're fictional, so in this case I blame the writers.)
@@monwheajeng2717 If you're a scientist, you would think that way. But what the cops said- "sounds like they were fudging their data" - is what the rest of the world would say. it's not because they aren't educated. It's because science isn't as reliable as we want to assume. Science isn't perfect, and the human element is full of all kinds of liars. Science is kind of a cash grab. So, yeah. Fudging the data, liars, whatever. It's a reason to dismiss every word they are saying. And it would work with a certain percent of the population.
Wow. It's a TV SHOW!!!
Was this episode supposed to be loosely based on David and Sean Goldman? It was a national case back in 2009 where the Brazilian mom took her then 4 y/o son home to her native country for a 2 week visit. While there she calls her husband to say she wants a divorce and she's never returning to the U.S. She might've been the absolute most evil woman on the planet! She stole her son from the only father he'd known, remarried, got pregnant, and died in childbirth down in Brazil. Then her new husband and his family fought for the next 4 years to keep Sean from his biological father, David. The entire story was a national mess!
That sounds like an absolute train wreck. I bet the lawyer made a pretty penny.
@@steeldriver1776 I don't think the lawyer made much bc this was a national case that garnered a lot of attention. David Goldman was not a rich man. This story probably made the attorney a lot of money on future international custody battles. I just remember David Goldman worked with his Congressman and The White House. Plus someone rich let him use their plane when he finally flew down to Brazil to pick up his son.

The ironic moment when you go down in a room full of doctors... But there's no doctor
The med-evac situation reminds me of a Peace Corps exec getting rushed back to the States from an African country after he was involved in a fatal car accident that left a pedestrian dead. The local police never had a chance to investigate, and the family became destitute from the loss of the main breadwinner.
What do you mean you've never seen this before? People get nosebleed from a spike in bloodpressure all the time. It's actually a better thing to have a vessel in your nose rupture and let the blood out than a vessel in your brain do the same. Now I guess both can happen too.

As easy as these episodes are to watch, you have to admit how far the writing fell since the first few seasons. Many lines and quips are just embarrassing... "Homicide-itis" 🤭🤦♂️
I think they were trying that csi style quippiness, but it just kinda felt lacking in self awareness here
The peak of law and order was definitely season 5-6 in my opinion! The cast was gold and the writing was pure genius, super super intellectual.

brazilian citizen, american citizen... as i understand us law she's a dual citizen until she officially renounces her us nationality. anyone?
Let me complement with brazilian law: you are right. Here in Brazil, marriage does not mean automatic citizenship, however. Likely it took her some time after the marriage to get it, 4 years at least If she wasn't living here before. We do not demand citizenship for one to be married. Since she was born in the US and had a passport from us, she is a dual citizen until she gives up either of her nationalities.
But there is one problem the show never approached: If she is a daughter of a brazilian on both sides and either of them worked for the brazilian government, she is likely not a US citizen
Yes, US permits dual citizenship
I wouldn’t be surprised if Silva’s reputation was destroyed after this case.
So, what did they find? My guess is that the wife was related to the guy at the end who spent time in Brazil

A "Carbon Emissions trading company"? How do you trade exhaust gas???
Kind of like Pokémon cards but harder to hold lol.
When a government limits how much of a greenhouse gas a company can emit (CO2 for a factory, methane for a cattle farm, etc), the company can purchase a carbon credit from someone else. If you are a lumber company and own a forest, the government counts that as negative emissions, because your trees are sucking up CO2. So a factory pays the lumber company, receives the negative credits, and is allowed to produce more CO2.
I imagine a carbon emissions trading company is simply a brokerage that puts buyers and seller together, and/or buys credits for the purpose of re-selling them.

2:00 - no, it fucking isn’t. It’s a fairly strong stimulant, yes, but not an amphetamine. God.
It isn't but I'm not surprised they got it wrong. I don't know if it was the same in the US but here in germany methylphenidate was only approved for adults in 2011. Before that only children could legally take it. ADHD and our treatment is still very misunderstood.
Also it being an amphetamine is a common misconception because methylphenidate will cause a false positive for amphetines when you take a drug test.
What she is talking about Brazil? I can’t believe that the screenplay would follow stereotypes without checking ! Maybe the paramedics was trying to become a star ⭐️!
Thi is from 2009 so it's not that surprising honestly
Not sure why you're hating on the paramedics that are medi-vac the patient, maybe it's because you clearly don't know how that works. You hire a medi-vac company in the country you are currently in to take a patient to another location: hence in the show the patient is in the USA so per location you would hire USA medi-vac company to take a patient to Brazil and vice versa. Being acknowledged on Twitter by Saudi and Russian bots. The two countries most benefitting from oil and gas sales and global warming.
The science isn't changing; your echo chamber is getting more airtight.
Original series is sooooooo much better. These two are kind of a joke
Every single episode now pushes a political narrative within it.. kinda getting annoying
Human conduct causing climate change is debatable because there were longer and hotter warming trends that lasted a thousand years _during the Roman Empire,_ as well as before and after that. What we're experiencing now is nothing new or even remarkable in the life cycle of the planet.
The difference here is that this climate change is *extremely* fast, and doesn’t leave time for organisms to adapt like it did before :/ and it’s also the first one man made, it’s usually a cycle but we’re changing it
Do you have a source for these claims?
The roman climatic optimum only lasted for 150 years, not 1000. Incidentally, that was deemed to be a regional phenomenon, not a globally-coherent episode. So no, not debatable.
Climate is always in flux, this a fact. This is the one time in Earth's history that one of it's species is dumping huge amounts of chemicals into her atmosphere and oceans. All that stuff has to do something, cause and effect.
But I also don't believe we are in a "Climate Emergency" and that the planet is dying. The only thing that is truly in jeopardy is us Humans and our way of life. The Earth will continue on long after we become the next oil for whatever evolves after us.
Scale is important. Climate naturally fluctuates, but in the last century we've already seen a dramatically faster rate of warming than at any other time in human history. Climate changing a bit over the course of decades and centuries is to be expected, if for no other reason than orbital dynamics - but climate changing _this much_ is not.
-
This is not controversial anymore. If the fossil fuel industry could disprove or undermine climate change using scientific evidence _they would have_ if governments could avoid dealing with climate change by pointing to scientific uncertainty, they would, but now all major fossil fuel companies and all states accept human activity is the main cause of current climate change.
