This is because this company was once there a very long time ago and was only found in South Korea. Now, they have come out with a car that seems to be from the future, offering something that most cars really don’t. The 2024 SsangYong Torres EVX has recently been announced, and it looks like a very promising car. But what exactly does it bring to the table? Let’s find out, shall we?

Unless you are a diehard fan of Mercedes-Benz in general and have a keen interest in the South Korean auto brands, there is a very high likelihood that you will hear of this brand for the first time here. This company goes all the way back to 1954. But over time, it has become more and more infamous because of two things. First, the early 1990s partnership that it made with Daimler to use Mercedes-Benz technology wrapped around a South Korean SUV body.
SsangYong made sure to take full advantage of the deal long after their jointly developed Musso mid-size SUV stopped being produced. They started using Mercedes-Benz know-how in some of the models, like the Istana, Korando, Rexton, Chairman H, and Kyron. Even though they are all pretty obscure, that doesn’t mean that they are inherently bad. With this, SsangYong made a name for itself in some international markets.
However, this was not mainly due to all the right reasons. This brings about the second reason that it is quite popular, which is its inability to survive for too long. This is despite the company having different parents, starting with Daewoo Motors and SAIC, then Mahindra Automotive, and now KG Group.
The company only solved its financial problems last year, which is how they were able to acquire the new guardianship from KG Group. This new parent has allowed the company to create a new nameplate in between the Korando and Rexton, which is the mid-size Torres adventurer. This name has been inspired by the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile's Patagonia, South America. This might be hinting at the desire to make the brand fully international. The best way to achieve this might be through creating a battery-powered version that could have enough power to conquer "remote places" such as the Old Continent.
It is now time to meet the SsangYong Torres EVX, which is EV extreme. This is because the South Korean automaker has shared the initial details and official reveal images. We already knew that it was coming from the first sighting of a prototype, which was spotted sometime in early February. In addition to that, this introduction also revealed when all the juicy technical beans would be spilled. This first introduction served as a prequel, which tells you that there is not that much information. But so far, the Torres EVX has been dubbed the one model to "overcome the limits of existing electric cars." That is already promising on its own.
The electric Torres EVX has been made to be more powerful than the ICE-powered Torres, which can only make 168 horsepower. This power comes from a 1.5-liter T-GDI engine, even though the petrol-powered model only offers the all-wheel drive option.
Regarding the visuals and exterior of the car, KG Mobility and SsangYong made sure that the car was different from the regular Torres in all ways. One of the distinct features is the redesigned front, which now has slimmer headlights, an illuminated grille, and different bumper intakes. The profile has been carried over with a new set of 20-inch alloy wheels, while the rear end features unique LED graphics for the taillights. It has retained the characteristic bump on the tailgate, though, which looks like a spare wheel cover.
If you stroll through the official configurator on the Korean website of KG Mobility, you will learn that the Torres EVX will be offered in two trims. These are the E5 and the E7. These two variants will come with the same powertrain and battery, which means that the only difference will be the equipment and the pricing.
KG Mobility is planning to take the Torres EVX to the next level by offering it outside of its home market in South Korea.

I wish Ssangyong would announce when the Tores is coming to Australia as there are many choices coming in the first 6 months of 2024 (eg Tank 500) - this is my first choice & I would wait if I knew it was coming soon with a reasonable price

I wish I had seen this video earlier and I may have put off buying my BYD ATTO three because this one is bigger unfortunately it has no only on screen controls and no voice assistant I am a blind passenger so having no access to air conditioning etc would be very frustrating

When it hits europe market, price will be doubled. Like you could get that sized car at that price.
