So I don't want this to come across the wrong way because I really enjoy your videos no matter what you're doing but I'm so happy to see a tutorial again after so long!
As someone currently reading through the 3rd edition 40k rulebook, I thank you for this. This is the era that gels with me the most. But buildings look perfect. I really like 'the look' of the handmade stuff. Excellent.
Just made myself a junk journal with a cover of yours (somehow don’t have a stapler in the house so it’s somewhat improvised) and am massively looking forward to filling it up. Always looking forward to what you do next! Thinkin about all the sculpting I’m gonna do on the arcane ugly minis once they arrive :)
for those wanting to use eva foam for terrain making without the back texture from mats on it look to cosplay materials suppliers and even fabric store. in australia spotlight stock eva foam in many of their stores and there are also stockists like lumins workshop (aus) hd props and many other stockists around the world and you can buy it in a variety of thicknesses ranging from 1mm up to 1cm or more (think i've seen it avalible up to 10 cm thick). you can also buy smaller thin sheets of it from some discount stores if you are making terrain from eva foam scraps and you are planning on having exposed eva foam hit it with a heat gun to close the cells of the foam so the paint sticks to the foam better
6:27 remember, trying and failing is better than not trying at all. And if you get a little out of your comfort zone along the way, perhaps you've discovered something you don't like. Or perhaps something you do like. I brewed a batch of mead last year for D&D that tasted so bitter, you'd think I flavoured it with Switch cartridges. But it was a lot of fun, and I'll most definitely try again sooner rather than later.
I have a little journal as well that I’ve been using for almost 2 years; it’s awesome! Seriously recommend having a little thing you can carry and vomit ideas into!
With the enthusiasm and ingenuity that you possess, I would let you build me a real house, Trent. Bloody brilliant destroyed structure build, brother. 🤙🏻
The outside pillars are what click as an amazing wargame terrain. It changes a flat building wall that you may pass by without looking into a unit cover, a narrative, a backdrop for the miniatures. You built a lot more than a 3D building from 2D templates. You sir are amazing.
You've got some incredible hyperfocus and I don't know how you do it...because my focus is in ten places at once! Loving the wrecked building, loving that you're getting sponsored.
You cannot make videos fast enough for my appetite for your videos. Love them, your delight at the surprising results of your own creations inspire me to just have a go and embrace the fun.
Trent you've done it again with that chaotic magpie brain of yours. Its truly beautiful to watch you work dude. I feel so honored to be part of your admirers.
Looks awesome. I love how free you are with creating. So many build videos are too well thought out and delicately created. You inspired me to build some cool Ork stuff. I really enjoyed it. I'm doing a scenary build soon. I like your pdf water spray, very cool:)
I actually used your templates before and they were really easy to follow and well put together. And the terrain they resultet in turned out quite good as well. Thank you! I will try and use the new one asap.
Shout out to the cute sculptor and miniature maker I told to check out your channel lol. Hope she enjoys it since I was too much of a dork to ask for her number lol.
A question about your rounded windows- why not just use a Dremel tool with a sanding drum on it? There's many sizes for drums, you could find one that'd make a perfect half circle on a window. They're like 50 bucks and usually come with an ass load of extra attachments, pretty handy for any hobby/trade.
Nice definitely want to try that, building terrain has been on my bucket list for the longest time! Also if you didn't notice already, there's a typo in "Scratch" in the title of the video
I scratch build gritty dim light edifices for eldritch auld&hammered rites from garbage, recycling and $ store supplies. It's superior jollification. A satisfactory telecast.
If you completed one ruined building, and find the idea of making a whole board daunting, rope your gaming group into it. Say "I made this, isn't it cool?". When they say, "yeah, dogg, that's really cool", you can say "if you want a whole board of these, I'm going to need your help". Make a group crafting day of it. Give every person a task, like cutting out specific parts, assembly line style. Give each person the promise that for each one the group makes, one of them will get to tear it up and artistically ruin it any way they want. That way, they're motivated to churn out a bunch of them. Nerds love both the chance to create and to destroy. If you've got some fine tipped markers or whatever, you can give them a chance to write all kinds of graffiti on their piece. That's more motivation.
As a design nerd that deals with Illustrator every day all day, if you’re stuck on a small piece of paper, tile it when you print it and then you can just cut it and tape it all back together after it prints.
Don’t feel to guilty when it comes to multiple page templates. Over here in the Netherlands it’s common to recycle your paper. And know that it all gets recycled, it’s not that bad. And if you print on a thicker paper, you only need to print one set.
2 inches that's really short for pretty much all Space Marines? I do 2.5 and 3 too 3.5 for gates. I think that is standard measurement for today's updated models. Im not trying to sound like an ass just surprised. Awesome build, though, man. A simple classic building project for any beginner and veteran alike.
The decision for 2 inch doors is based on trying to find a balance between everything - gameplay, aesthetics and also trying to make all the different variances in GW's current scale (and other companies) look good. Floors being 3 inches each, makes for good gameplay for most games imo, so making a door fit that and look good is the goal. A 2 inch door looks sensible with an eldar model stepping though it and a space marine stepping thought it looks terrifying as it should. BUT if you wanted bigger I think scaling the templates will look great too! Hope that helps with the scale decision making.
@Miscast. I see you thought processes clearly now. Also, like I said, though, no hate, all love, man. I appreciate you getting back to me again, lol. Keep up the awesome work, my battle, brother.
@Miscast Exactly. You gonna have love and passion for your art and yourself to do it well and make something that inspires the next generation of hobbyists. You're a good guy. Keep living the dream, bro, and helping others find their dreams.

hello👋
Thanks my dude. I know what I’m making next ❤
😃
That looks great man. Love those crazy buttresses. This brings back good memories of the era when this channel was called miscast terrain
Trent, the reason I enjoy Miscast is because of all the unsolicited life advice.
hahahahah thanks
It’s pretty high up there for sure
This is so true
Trent, you are an absolute demon for using your trackpad in illustrator. How the hell do you work like that!?
I had to learn because I was travelling and now I'm scared if I enjoy using a mouse again I'll never go back

How fun, that looks so good! Tt would've never occurred to me to use a food dehydrator like that, super smart!

Wow, Trent. The thing with that dehydrator...thats some real inside the box thinking!
Love the different perspective on this!
thanks :)
I see miscast. I click.
Thank you!!

I build this first building! I also made 2 of you bunkers making them fully playable with a removable roof! Everyone I played with love the bunkers!
10/10, using the food dehydrator is inspiredddd
If the walls are too thin that means you have freedom to layer them or cool inlay effects dingus

Great tutorial, thanks!
Another good watch! Thank you Trent! Keep up the great work!
Could you use the leftover paper in a batch of home made sculpta mold ?????
Yeah!
Miss a laser cuter. No more printing and manual cuting.
yoooo!!!!! just been working on my own!!!!! thanks for that awesome greeble pack :)
Thankyou!! Got another update to that pack on the way!
Good stuff thanks
Weird flex but i think the upper level floor is the most aesthetically pleasing facade of a miniature ruined building I've ever seen
Haha jokes on you, it's only 29,999 pages in landfill because I simply don't print the mostly empty pages and just wing it!
Don’t feel to guilty when it comes to multiple page templates. Over here in the Netherlands it’s common to recycle your paper. And know that it all gets recycled, it’s not that bad. And if you print on a thicker paper, you only need to print one set.
Very nice building there
Thankyou so much
For what it's worth on the waste paper point, I horde mine for papier mache and that kinda thing
You know that is a great t-shirt idea? “Go with your dreams and then we’ll crush them into something that works”
“Go with your dreams first, then we will crush them into something that actually works.”
If that isn’t a motto I don’t know what is.
I've never seen you more exhausted and driven to derangement. Thank you for your suffering ❤️
What are you chuckleheads doing putting paper in landfill? As long as the ink part is used, chuck it in the compost!
I think the only thing the building is missing is some paper clips sticking out as rebar
Why there is a mega pre raphaelite picture on the second floor of the mad laboratory? It's the first time I noticed it...
MISCAST TERRAIN?!
My 1year old daughter clapped at the end of your video. I think she liked this build haha
hhahahah, an unexpected demographic, but a welcome one
Nice
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only decor
Are you...using illustrator with a trackpad?
....Subscribed!
So we are all okay with just skipping past the Mau5 head?? Lol great video
AH YES, THE VIDEO TO WATHC WHILE EATING GRAPES BEFORE SLEEP
I would do a second story as 6" now as there's plunging fire
More floors! It'll look cooler. Just glue 2 templates on top of each other!
@@Miscast this is true, also bigger base for the non narrative players
Cool
thanks!!
👌👌👌
thanks for alienating me from terrain making, where am i supposed to get an angle grinder?1

I can't understand how you do this without a mouse haha - finger wizard
Bloody brilliant )O(
He has a ruler with centimeters, why then does he measure everything in stupid inches?
Because most tabletop war games are played in inches
And yes inches are stupid
