My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We saw over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

Do you know why chicken coops have two doors? If they had four doors it would be a chicken sedan. 👏hope this brings a smile to everyone. 🙏
lol
😅👍👍
Thanks, Dad!
lol
This makes less sense if you know there ARE 2 door sedans out there. 1947 Chev for instance.. 2 door coupe and a 2 door sedan, i had the 2 door sedan.
Insulation in your chicken coop ceiling would be great that metal roof it's like a sauna in there
I don't know nothing about chickens. But I did notice that immediately. Down in Arkansas it gets pretty hot. 1st thing I thought of. Hope the fan sucks enough heat and humidity out. Other then that, looks good to me. Good job. Keep us posted. 😊
Where do you find the time to run a repair shop, gardening, raise chickens and do housework? You are a SUPER woman!! SUPER CHICKANIC
I worked in retail grocery 20 years ago. It's amazing what people would steal. And that was in a small town.
You would think meat to be the biggest target.
@@joewoodchuck3824
It was along with anything else expensive. Like alcohol.
I love your chickens my neighbor across the street from me recently got some chickens and a rooster and I love sitting on my front porch and listening to them. Brings back memories of my grandparents farm.
Hey there Chicky, your place is looking sweet! I must say, it's kind of ironic you put this video out today. Over the Memorial weekend here in NorCal, I got a smokin' deal from Lowe's on one of those red Craftsman mowers like you had in the video...originally $399 for only $99...just because it was missing the air filter, cover & gas cap. When I got home I 'Amazoned' all 3 parts for just under $20 & they were on my front porch late this afternoon.
Good job making the quality vids...keep it up!
A while ago I asked a guy working in the mower section about the missing covers and he told me they leave them off the display models and keep them in the back, along with some other easily removable parts, depending on the model or equipment. So they might not have always been stolen.
That's kinda what I assumed they always did due to the thieves.
Lowe’s can’t even keep track of the keys and owner’s manuals! There are no spare parts in the back. They were stolen, thrown away, or given away by the salesman.
Kind of ironic this video came out today. Last weekend here in NorCal, I got a good deal from Lowe's on one of those red Craftsman mowers like she had in the video...originally $399 for only $99...just because it was missing the air filter, cover & gas cap. When I got home I 'Amazoned' all 3 parts for just under $20 & they were on my front porch late this afternoon. They never said a word about any covers in the back.
I worked at a Lowe's for a couple of years. Stealing is a major problem there (as it is everywhere) . Oh God, I hated all the damn stealing. We were always adding new cages as well as turtles, frogs, and mambas (anti-theft devices).
I worked at a Lowes for 2 years after I retired .. electrical unit ... the amount of breakers stolen was staggering !... my first week there 2 men loaded up a cart with 4 Husqvarna large chainsaws and just walked out with them ... confronting ir stopping thieves at Lowes will get you fired
When I looked it up, it says they lose 1 BILLION dollars a year in theft.. That's crazy..
@@Michael_Ellicott Oh my god! The circuit breakers! I know! I asked my boss why we lock up the Craftsman 20V junk, but we leave the expensive and easily pocketable breakers out for the taking. He just kinda shrugged and said there was nothing he could do about it. Everyone there has kinda given up and accepted that people are going to steal, and nothing can be done about it. For example, the cage lock combinations are a freaking joke, and the mambas, frogs, and turtles are super easy to defeat. It was so frustrating.
@@Chickanic I believe it. During my third week of unemployment I watched a guy walk out with a $600 DeWalt 20v tool combo. He ripped off the mamba, picked it up, and ran right out the front door. He knocked down one of our people while exiting. She was just heading to the breakcroom, and she wasn't in his way. There was no need to hit her. He was just evil. I pray that one day he finds an icy patch of roadway while traveling too fast on a steep and remote mountain road.
@@argon62 I hope employees are not stealing, but some probably do. I guess I held my fellow employees to a higher standard, but I know some fall short of my expectations. Yes, I am that naive.
Why would you steal a cheap part like an air filter? Some people are just scumbags. You definiately save time and money, frustration is however, sometimes unavoidable. I just did work on my Stihl FS90 and thanks to your vids I saved time and money but with the way you had to take it apart frustration is unavoidable.
Ha! For sure.
I worked at a hardware store, you would be surprised what people steal
@@rogerembry4777 my mom was a manager at a Sam’s Club. Sadly I wouldn’t be.

2 weeks ago, decided to help my 85 year old mother set up a few tomato plants in containers. Went to Tractor Supply, picked up four 5 gallon buckets, two 2 cubic foot bags of Miracle Gro Potting Mix and some of their Tomato Food fertilizer, and four tomato plants - two Best Boys, one Beefsteak, and one Dark Cherry.
Took the buckets, drilled four 3/8" drain holes around the bottom of each, and added approximately 2 inches of pea gravel in the bottom for drainage. Then filled each one close to the top with the potting mix, with the tomato food fertilizer mixed in, and set the plants in them. Only been adding water when the top of the potting mix started to look dry.
In only twelve days, those plants have went from 6 inches tall to nearly 2 foot! They're growing so fast, you can literally see the difference in height from morning to evening. My mother said, in all her days, she's never seen tomato plants grow that fast.
Those plants came from a local nursery. They must have some pretty good stock, for those plants to take off like that, fertilizer and potting mix notwithstanding.
We saved the cups that the plants came in, and now my mother is using them to see if she can get some of her old cucumber seeds to start growing.
I may need a LOT more 5 gallon buckets.....
Loving this channel even more since the shop closed. Small engine repair, farming, and chickens all in one vid, fantastic! Nena's family raised chickens in Panama and if we didn't live in the city, she would be hip deep in them all the time. Thank you, Miss Bre, for showing us the real America! jimandnena
Only recently came across your videos when laid up for a week with a minor health matter. Have since been able to get a 25 years old Honda line trimmer, a Ryobi Brush cutter and a chainsaw going and almost fixed a 25 years old ride on that had fuel gushing through the muffler. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, experience and tips. Re: chickens. Unlikely you will need to separate a rooster from the girls. You don't need a rooster for the hens to lay but I have always felt the chickens lay a little better with one. Also, if a fox does attack the hens the rooster will defend them but usually at the cost of his life. Hens use a lot of energy to produce eggs and should start laying at about 23 or 24 weeks so a good 17.5% protein feed is a good minimum guideline. The extra run extension might be useful to have some green feed sown for the birds to scratch although they will decimate it fairly quickly. They only need about 2 or 3 hours a day scratching around although my birds are free range from around 8.00 to 5.00 pm in summer and a little less in winter. Best wishes for the chooks. Just another thought about poultry, 3 or 4 ducks will provide more eggs than chickens and with your vegie garden, the ducks will rarely damage plants but are great for pest control. An old timer reckoned that you don't have a snail problem you have an under supply of ducks. Enjoy your gardens and poultry & thanks again for the small motors education.
But ducks are filthy-messt!
"Chickcanic's Chicks" too funny!
Good Morning Brian!
@@Chickanic Good Morning. Check your email please.
Great name to use if you sell your eggs.
I got me a chickanic sweatshirt. You have educated me sooo much. I bought a gas powered pressure washer this past weekend at a yard sale without hesitation bc of the confidence I have now to be able to maintain/fix it. Thank you!! I even brought him down $10 because it has an oil leak I know how to fix!
I've been busy cutting trees for friends and family from all these tornadoes we had up here. We were blessed to miss it, so been helping where I could. I'm taking a break to watch my favorite channel!! Oh, and fix my Husqvarna transmission on my tractor, thanks to passed videos during this week!
Thank you for both entertaining and educating us.
It almost seems like the brackets for some of those air covers are designed to fall off and force us to buy an new cover/filter (which, of course, the manufacturer sells). I started putting a tiny screw through my air filter covers in order to keep them in place.
Thank you Bri. I always enjoy and appreciate how you help your viewers
I just love your channel and your total honesty - all the way from Sydney, Oz
Thanks for sharing.
Chicken feed tip. Get a feeder with a treadle step that allows the hens to gain access to the feed and closes when they step off the treadle. Split feed attracts mice, mice attract rat snakes and the snakes also eat eggs.
I also had chickens. Trained them to use a self closing feeder box in two days. They are so smart!
Back when I had chickens(not where I live now) their pen was too large to fully enclose the top, thus a hawk problem I found out that having a few black hens would confuse the hawks into thinking that they were crows, never lost another to chicken hawks once I got my 4 black hens (I don't remember the breed) unfortunately my setup wasn't weasel proof in the course of 1 weekend out of town I lost all of my birds mostly attacked in the neck only. I loved the birds and the eggs they offered.
My Ryobi power washer (Subaru engined) needed a new air filter, the old was disintegrating. I ordered a Stens brand from A and was pleasantly surprised that inside the Stens marked bag was another bag with the filter and that was marked as genuine Subaru part.
I have went through 3 Briggs/Murray Push Mowers in 3 years-all bought from Walmart, I change Oil Often and keep them clean and out of weather, all of them start Knocking and may Lock up before one year is on them. A Lawn Mower Mechanic said just throw them away. It is sad, I have a Lawn Mower that is maybe 35 years old that I paid $39 at a Gibson store years ago that will still run and cut grass, yes it has had several Carb. Kits installed and has Sheared several Crank Pins but it will still run and cut grass and does not smoke or burn oil...
Thanks.
Nice looking garden!! My great uncle had chickens way back in the sixties when I was a kid. Once a hawk was after them and actually grabbed a hen. One of his big roosters went after that hawk and killed it, and I mean fast!!
People sometimes underestimate how much damage a rooster can do.
For the cover with no tank vent you can carefully dremel/grin the notch out.
I am Subscribed to your channel, I enjoy working on all lawn and gardening Equipment and I have been replacing Air filters and covers. And now thanks to you I now know what to look fore and buy the right ones. Thank you so much. . . . .
You’re the best ! I tell many to watch you for help . Thank you
Love your channel content! You’re so helpful!
To bad there aren’t more woman like you who are able to fix things. My dear wife of 39 years bless her heart 💜 has the hardest time dealing with the simplest things when it comes to putting things together! Wouldn’t trade her for anything!!!☮✌🏻
Up North here, just finished getting my garden in on Memorial day weekend. Looking forward to that first harvest myself. Awesome job on the chicken coop. A friend of mine used to work at a farm supply store. The manager was just coming back from lunch and held the door open for a couple of people leaving the store, told them to "have a nice day". He didn't realize they had just robbed the store at gunpoint and were making their getaway................
Sweet set up ! we had chickens growing up & there’s nothing like a home farmed egg… our neighbors had a milk cow & boy was that wonderful! the butter is the best! please keep the garden & chicken videos coming !!!
You are awesome. Always enjoy your posts. Very informative and down to earth.
Chickens and garden…your living grand!
It's possible Lowe's takes them off to stop theft, the Australian equivalent takes the fuel caps off for the same reason
hey Bre, big fan, love your videos and your work i am so inspired my you, because i’ve been watching your videos for about 5/6 months and i’m a huge fan! thanks so much!
Always a pleasure to watch your videos great information thanks for the tips!!!
Love the garden bit 👍👍
Your garden looks great!!
As time goes by I appreciate your channel more and more and eagerly await new videos! You should really consider making a calendar. You could put pictures of yourself fixing things and put your tip of the month. Lots of us would put it in our workshops !
We have had chickens for 9-10 years, and no other animal has gotten into the coop other than mice. But we have hawks and eagles that do fly overs all the time. We have other people in the area that lose chickens all the time, but they didn't seem to put a lot of thought into making their coops predator proof. The hardware cloth is the way to go, but get a roof on that before a hungry bird drips in.
Thanks
Bless you and yours, Bre.
Boy you blow my mind! You are not only a great mechanic, but I don't know how you find time to do all you do!
if I were to have chickens again I would look for an older hen to to help raise them. Mothers help a lot
Looks like the chickens are well cared for, Great job.
Great seeing the other side of folks. Nice, thanks.
Definitely didn't know that about the filters! That fan looks like a sweet buy
Here in Australia you can basically shoplift with impunity. Security can't touch you, store employees can't touch you. All they can do is ask you to put it back or pay.
They can call the police, but unless there happens to be one on the spot good luck.
And even then the person will most likely just get a warning.
I love watching your videos. you do so many different things.. Thanks for sharing.
Same problem at the Lowe’s I work at. We’ve had a few recoil pull start assemblies taken too. Crazy.
Great video. You’ve been busy on the homestead. Looks amazing!!!!
I've got another one for you, as far as Briggs & Stratton air filters. I have a 2017 Troy Bilt TB 30 R, with the little single cylinder 13 HP Briggs engine. The air filter on the parts list, is just the round cylindrical air filter by itself, that press fits onto the intake manifold under the engine cover.
However, I found out that Briggs also makes a "kit", under a different part number, that uses the exact same air filter, but also includes one of those green foam slip-on dust filters with it.
And I found both the air filter by itself, and the "kit" with the green dust cover, sitting side by side on the same shelf at Lowes.
Retired from Home Depot. Yes there is thief. Especially in self checkout.
So wise , Thank You .
Didn't know that. Thanks!
You might be overthinking your chicken coop but it is impressive. Chickens like to roost at night so a couple of pine 2x1” boards attached end to end would do the trick. You’ll be constantly cleaning droppings from underneath so some sort of portable tray underneath that you can move or once a week or so will make your life easier. We have a lot of problems with foxes, which is heart breaking when you loose your lovely chickens do be thorough with the fox proofing. Good luck
I was going to ask about perches and nest boxes too. Wondering what you plan to do. They like to roost on perches at night up off the floor. I made nest boxes accessible from small hatches/doors outside the coop so I didn’t have to always go inside to collect eggs. Not sure if that is feasible but makes it easier to collect eggs. I also used a “deep litter system” when I raised chickens and it worked great. I had to top off the litter as it breaks down and compacts over time. I usually changed out the litter for all new twice per year and used it in the garden compost. Best of luck. The chicks look really healthy.
"Time, money and frustration", I love it!
I recommend securing that light or heat lamp in the chicken coop with wire screws straps or something so it can’t be knocked off and catch things on fire 🔥 very common issue. Things look great!
Quit buying anything for my mowers from Lowe’s and Home Depot as their supplies are lacking. I get what I need fast from Amazon. Appreciate your videos!
Nice yard, and property 👌
Thanks chicanic!
great info - thanks for this video
Nice work on the coop
Love your videos!
Thank you, keep working.
Dang I like the vent system and fan
It’s very hot in West Texas 😂
THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO
Loved this vid....take care of those chicks.god bless u.
The last push mower I bought had a metal filter holder sitting level with the pull cord, and on top of the carburetor.
Thx Bre...brings back memories

Good morning.

Nice! Your going have fresh eggs soon! 🐔Those are some spoiled chickens and well worth it! Thanks for info on the filter's/covers.
Don't forget to insulate that tin coop , that will help in winter and summer just like your house .
You'll love the fresh vegetables and eggs, my family did the same thing when I was growing up in Maine, us kids were the weeders , things are in full bloom in upstate new york so my husqvarna 128ld is getting put to use , my tenants mower crapped out ,it's fairly new , I told him about your channel, it was blowing black smoke
Great video my friend keep the videos coming oh awesome place you have
love your content!
There is,yet, so much that I don't know, when it comes to small engines-- This is why I tune in!!
Love the Chicks!🐤
Thank you. Now if you could just revisit the 2 cycle oil you recommend.
Useful stuff👍
We started 18 birds this spring. Have a chicken house big enough for around 200 birds.
Your birds look great!
Don't think I'll ever have a mower new enough to have those air filters.
I found that the air filter cover kept falling off so I fixed the problem with a screw and now it no longer gives any trouble. It does not matter what type of screw a self tapper or a wood screw does as it is only going into plastic.
I would like to nominate the CJ6 spark plug for most stolen part. Needed one for my blower. Parts store was out so drove across town to Agi Supply. Their website said they had 8 of them in stock. Their computers said they had 8 in stock. But 0 at store. They leave them out so customers probably lifted them all. They said it looked like someone took them all. Told them I wasn't surprised since it was a popular model sold at places like Lowes and Walmart. Luckily tractor supply had Stens that would work. This was for a mitsubishi blower I think you did video on. The plug has to be CJ6, others close to it are too long and will damage engine. Need to check plug before changing them.
I noticed you put your coop on the back of the property a old farmer here says to put it in the middle of the yard I asked why he said harder for the varmints to get to it and make a slot as deep as you can against the fence and put sheet metal in it deep to stop them from digging under to get them ! Plus when hear a racket and run out with shotgun in hand the critters have to run across the yard to get to the woods you can get a shot off at em. !
Here in Florida, I had a friend that raised chickens, turkeys, and ducks. They also lived close to a river. A hungry gator pushed thru the fence and killed everything.
A valuable lesson learned.

Had chickens when we lived in New Jersey. Was tons of fun. Good luck and I hope you like eggs.
Excellent video, although it doesn’t apply to my 2 stroke Lawn boy which runs like a top.
Chickanic and the Chicks - sounds like a band name from the '60s.
Whats going on with the Vette? I had a '75 ragtop. Nice job on the Chicken Coup.
I always write the model no. on the mower with a sharpie, usually on an area where it won’t get removed
Thanks for the video. May GOD bless.
Love the chickens, owls and hawks are also a problem. The entry into your nest house needs to be closed at night. Owls will get in and get one off the roost.
She said she is closing in the roof.
As a woman I LOVE your informative videos. What riding mower do you recommend for about an acre of yard. currently I have an oldJD 42 model that is getting tired.... I am not convinced I need a zero turn unless it is the way to got. thanks. Donna
