Q&A on Season 16 of Taskmaster with hosts Greg Davies & Alex Horne. Moderated by Mara Webster, In Creative Company.
Greg Davies is the `Taskmaster' in this game show that challenges the wit and wisdom of five celebrities, who are all putting their reputations on the line. Sidekick Alex Horne assists Davies in setting up unique and ridiculous tasks for the competitors, which include painting a picture of a horse whilst riding a horse, and making a portrait of a celebrity using only toilet rolls. The competition is further fuelled by the fact that the prize pot is made up of each person's personal possessions, which they will lose to the overall winner.

It's rare to see an interview where someone asks actually interesting and insightful questions. Good job :)
i was just thinking this! good interview great questions with a good insight into the show that shows an understanding of the show.
+1 ... so nice to hear questions from an informed interviewer, and obviously a fan
I think she's interviewed them before and she was excellent then too
I’m only 5 minutes in watching this on my tv and I felt I needed to pick my phone up, find the video and make this exact same comment.
Brilliant questions help to get really interesting answers. Well done, interviewer! Fantastic job!
Definitely insightful, but faaaaaar too long. If the questions were succinct, I think the interviews would be bang-on.
I love that Greg found Rhod Gilbert genuinely irritating. His interaction with Greg made Rhod Gilbert one of my favourite contestants. (It probably helped that he was already one of my favorite comedians 😄)
I loved Rhod G before the show but his constant use of his past with Greg in an answer annoyed me and bored me silly by the end ….it put me off him!
To be honest, it amused me finding out after the fact that Greg's irritation was genuine, but if I'd known from the start that Greg was not just playing along for the laughs I would probably also have got annoyed with it.
@@stevethorpe they have been best mates for decades, it was all part of the show and this interview is the same. Watch some of the footage of them together away from TM and see how genuine their friendship is.
@@bobstirling6885 I know they are old friends, but even good friends can get on each other's nerves at times. Though I believed Rhod's effrontery and Greg's reaction to it was all part of the show at the time, when Greg claimed it had genuinely irritated him I could see how that might have been the case. Since I don't know them personally I only had my feeling that Greg was being honest during the interview, and it amused me. Perhaps you have more direct knowledge on which to base your assertion. I don't, and just enjoyed the moment as I interpreted it.
@@practicallyperfect2941 Yeah, I agree with you. But you have to give Rhod credit for perhaps the most ever surprised Gregg has ever been when he got Gregg's mom to sit in a tub with a phez on her head. That was freakin hilarious. But yeah, he used that one picture of unshirted Gregg for several tasks.
I think the other major surprise was when Mark Watson, as part of a task, had stolen Gregg's slacks/pant during one of his shows (I think it was Mark).
Rhod was a proper character. He pushed Gregs buttons well and given this doesn't happen often it made it one of the most memorable contestants and one of my favourite seasons. It's probably hard to have friends on the show and judge them, but it's good TV.
You can tell how good the interviewer is by how easily Alex and Greg can go on and on in answering her questions
It's almost my fave part of any episode when Alex cracks up!
same, especially in the background
@@CyberBeep_kenshi precisely!
@@YogZab with Lucy trying to drive that brushing vehicle, it was just too much 🤣🤣
@@CyberBeep_kenshi Oh my gosh I just can't figure that gal out! That was a hilarious scene, yes.
It's always nice when the interviewer is actually familiar with the show and can reference specific things in specific episodes, sadly does not happen enough.
It's great to see so much praise for Mara as an interviewer! As a friend of hers, I can confirm she is as engaging and thoughtful in "real life" 😊
Having recently watched all the series, it was about halfway through series 3 the moniker of “Little Alex Horne” came about 😂
the most brilliantly edited show on television.
The editing is SO important!
"Five comedians are abducted and forced to compete for their very survival. Only by completing arbitrary tasks for their megalomaniac abductor and his awful little assistant can they hope to survive and make it home!"
This is fully how im going to pitch the show to friends who haven't heard of it now.
That’s basically the plot for Saw…
Taskmaster Hotel in the last episode of this season was the BEST EVER!
The failures are good, but the "thinking outside the box" contestants are my favorite. For example taking scissors to the lines in the "feed Alex while hopping on one leg" task was one of the best surprises of the show.
My god, GENUINELY great questions. So many interviews are so repetitive my eyes glaze over, KEEP IT UP!!! 👍
If all of Maras interviews are this well planned and thought out, I want to hear more. I’ve watched most all the seasons, but learned so much today. Thanks
I have no idea why this channel has so few subscribers! It's an amazing series of interviews. Kathryn Hahn/Wandavision is one of my favourite interviews
Always asking questions that aren’t akin or repetitive from what’s already available out there- really enjoyed watching this, thanks 🙏🏽
1) I watch way too many interviews with Greg and Alex, but Mara’s are always by far the best.
2) I REALLY want to know what was in Greg’s mug lol.
I assumed tea but why is he chewing? lol
I haven't read this anywhere, but having just gone through a phase of watching everything he and alex have made in addition to taskmaster- im guessing nicotine gum? I've noticed snippets of him chewing in many things and in a blooper of man down he actually spits it out by accident. There's also a joke in season one where Ramesh brings in a vape about nicotine. Greg says he is addicted to it, which was said in a joking way but bc of the above evidence maybe not untrue 😂
From googling the 'Little Alex Horne' introduction was started in Series 3 episode 3 but was mentioned in a task once before.
Not sure, I would say it is in series 4 episode 1
@@fab302 You could well be right as I only googled.
All the talk about height difference between Greg and Alex reminds me of that episode of Series 8 when Sian Gibson stood up with Greg to showcase the height differences hahaha Greg is such a beast of a man (I mean he did call his show You Magnificent Beast after all)
She literally looked like a doll. But wouldn't be fun if they actually did go out for drinks?
I have so loved Taskmaster that I watch reruns for the little nuances. First round, I watched for Greg’s reaction, but other go rounds I’ve watched Alex. I enjoy seeing him equally so. I am so obsessed, I can tell u when Alexes chair was changed slightly. I loved the little tidbits in their lives. Greg’s love of mom and that first childhood fight. Alex’s call from the garden and the renovated garage..and on.
During the show, Greg's role is to act as the lead guy on the show. But I am really appreciate when in just about every interview Greg does about Taskmaster, he gives all credit to Alex Horne as the real leader and designer of the concept and show.
It is also interesting how a number of contestants get really competitive in the tasks and even upset about points when in reality, the tasks and the points and winners and losers are irrelevant....it's just all in good fun. It's not like they end up getting a big prize or reward. But I guess contestants do put in time, effort and even bodily injury to complete bat-shit crazy tasks....LOL
It's a great show and I really appreciate all the comedians who are willing to compete with the knowledge that they may totally embarrass themselves.
Such a wonderful show. My absolute favorite tasks are ones involving vehicles. Boats, bicycles, scooters, street sweepers, whatever, they're almost always hilarious. Also there's something so fun about the look of astonishment on the contestants when the obvious, spelled out answer is revealed to have been available to them the entire time. The rules of Taskmaster: 1) Always look at the back of the task, 2) Always look under the table, 3) always look above the doorframe.
Definitely the most insightful and thoughtful interview I've seen about the show.
"That was the only time I really felt like I'd let down a friend. But it only lasted 2 minutes." XD
Poor Mark Watson.
This might be the first time I've ever noticed how good an interviewer is. This was a great watch.
genuinely my favorite show. especially during the pandemic 😊
Honestly, that was one of the best interviews of any TV show or film cast/creators I've ever seen - brilliantly thought out questioned and a perfect way to get Alex and Greg to answer them all completely honestly without putting on any character. Really great job!
I'm pretty sure the formal, permanent introduction of him as Little Alex Horne was in mid series 4
I think what also makes this show so great is that it seems to have a little bit for everyone. Some like Greg enjoy failures, some may do enjoy task solving, I myself love it when they go out of (nonexistent) bounds, Like "Balance Alex on a Seasaw", so you fixate the Seasaw, or "Put this Camel through the smallest Gap, so one actually drove to a gap store and carried the camel through it"
Fantastic interview! It’s lovely to see these two, who I absolutely adore, in a relaxed setting. Your thoughtful questions were brilliant. Well done. ❤
Am I the only one who wants to give Greg a hug? To take him in my arms and hold him tight?
Nice interview! One thing I've been wondering for the past few years is whether Alex and the rest of the production team have ever considered inviting a comedian like Chris McCausland or Rosie Jones onto the series. Given the type of show it is, I imagine it would be very challenging to make it work - virtually every task would have to be rejigged or have a tweaked version for the contestant in question - and that it might prove too difficult in the end. But it would certainly add something unique to the show.
I would love either of those two on the show - maybe a full series would be to hard to navigate, but they could do something like the New Year's specials.
@@AmyPondFangirl that would be a good idea!
I think we see that in the one offs more, like the New Year's Treats.
I would love to see some openly/knowingly physically disabled people* on TM too. I'm sure Alex could design tasks to suit specific requirements though, no need to have separate modified versions.
(*Paul Sinha being the obvious person already but of course nobody realised what was actually going on at the time to take physicality into consideration, other than the shoulder surgery which would have happened after the tasks for the series were already designed and organised.)
I remember watching a previous interview Mara did with Alex and Greg. Both interviews were excellent!

Also, worth looking up what Stockholm Syndrome actually is! Originally made up to poke fun at a woman.
16 has had me laughing my butt off...The air headed moments are genius!
Brilliant show. My favourite in the last 20 years no doubt.
Omg I want to see this warm up task compilation such a great idea
Ed Gamble reveals it on the Podcast. But it's not been *shown*.
@@davewhitehead8601 right, just 100 hours to listen through then to find out...
@@tomer4566 Ok, it's revealed as being listing animals in alphabetical order and it is not possible to go back. I think it's in Ep 75, 76 or 77.
20:52 oh I cannot wait for the day that compilation is released…
These really were great questions and answers! Always love to hear some behind-the-scenes perspectives of my favorite show.
Easily the best Greg & Alex interview I've seen. Thanks!
I love Taskmaster. I love the characterisations of the hosts. I especially love what looks like genuine joy and hilarity. I love discovering the otherwise latent psychological and cognitive aspects of the comedian participants. I love when the hosts find genuine amusement or admiration in their participants. I love when the participants have camaraderie as one or when they form blocs. I love Alex's similarity between his personality and character, and Greg's contrast of his.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this interview, both the questions and the responses.
By the way, despite 'Stockholm Syndrome' being now understood as a perversion of the original incident to which it refers, what Alex and Greg seem to be referring to is the awful situation so many of us find ourselves in whether at work, with friends or with family, when we know who holds the power and we have to choose whether to follow our own morality against the oppressive authority and risk being outcast (losing) or give in by sucking up (winning?) or just keep our head down and toe the line enough to maintain our sanity... Thanks all 🙏
Alex Horne's instantly recognisable wallpaper leads to disappointingly low mentions of Mert Aksaç.
Great interview, I think this the best Taskmaster interview Ive seen with Greg and Alex. Also season 16 is an excellent one!
Little Alex Horne coming to us from his enchanted Pixie Forest, while Greg delivers his authoritative bon mots regally resplendent beneath his Mr Whippy crown. Class act! (😄)
this show has always been great, but when the lock down hit, and they did an audience patriation taskmaster it reached a whole new level. 😻
Lockdown was when I discovered this show. I binge watched the lot. Twice.
Absolutely loved this interview. Great questions!
Such a good interviewer, I could watch hours of this. Her dedication really shows!! Hope she goes far :))
Terrific interview! Those were some very thoughtful, creative questions. 👍
16:49 best compliment, beginning with calling with Alex deranged
these interviews are so wonderful - mara is a gem
Loved Rhod Gilbert and Julian Clary. ❤️
The thing I really want to ask these two is: In interviews Alex and Greg often imply that there isn't a grand plan behind elements of the show - contestant selection; task creation; what they discuss - but they also talk about how "tightly run" the show is behind the scenes. How much do they think the show exists and thrives as the result of their own honed instincts and "happy accidents" versus being the result of specific design and planning?
This was such a great interview, the questions were very well-thought and interesting!!
Thanks for sharing this interview, love these two.. loving this current series, all 5 are maniacs and I love it haha
Oh and.. speaking of a fan of the show.. I love when contestants are fans of the show.. and know what they're getting into. It showed quite a few times throughout the years and it was always fun to watch
Just want to say that the very first answer from greg just sums up the life of a teacher. Feigning authority while having no control over one's life whatsoever.
Outstanding interview by Mara Webster with well prepared, interesting questions.
It’s great to see a bunch of like-minded commenters that have also really enjoyed your interview.
I too have been a massive fan of the show (since season 2) and use the awesome house music by Dru Masters as my ringtone, it’s nice when someone recognises it!
Thanks for this great interview, I really enjoyed it!
Am I the only who died at seeing Greg's picture on the wall😅
Great interview. These are really nice questions. Very nice of you.
That's a brilliant interview, very entertaining. I really enjoyed it, some great questions and class to see how relaxed the guys were.
Yeah, a good set of questions to delve deep into things. Nice work!
Great questions and answers. Thank you everyone!
This is a very good interview. Real, good questions put in front of the Gentleman. Questions, which most of the fans of Taskmaster think about regarding the program.
Hot damn those are some thoughtful questions.
Anytime there's something funny going on, and Alex is laughing, I'm laughing automatically
bloody good interviw five points,Maybe Lord Grg davies will award you a bonus point too.
Came to the comments to say how excellent the questions were and saw that everyone else had the same thought. Oh well, I'll say it anyway. Fantastic interview!
Great interview, loved the questions, really interesting insight into the show, thank you
I went through from series one recently and if I remember correctly it’s not until about series 4 that Alex becomes little Alex Horne
lol I just did the same and it’s posted a near identical comment 😅 (it was like ep 3 or 4 of s3 btw)
"The rug- pull of failure" - Great comment 😂😂😂
Great interview! Are there more about the other seasons of Taskmaster?
Seeing Alex Zoom into an interview makes me miss No More Jockeys
I’ve really enjoyed Alex breaking character more as time goes on, it’s easy to see what his role on the show and it makes the moments when he breaks even funnier
This was a good one, thank you so much!
I love them so much 🤗 Taskmaster was the only thing that made me laugh during a very grey time. I also appreciate the yt uploads, as I'm not from the UK

Excellent interview. Can clearly tell the questions you asked are really well thought out.
mara webster! what an excellent moderator!
Great inverview
Justice for Joe and his potato
🎉 Here from the get-go, congratulations on the latest series. Appreciate how defunct and witty contestants are in the failing. It has come to a roiling boil of fun. Call me Greg.😂 🎉
Great interview. Awesome insights.
Really great interview! I hope they bring back the play where only a single contestant has to do something extra in vain.
fantastic to watch!! loved the latest season. GREAT interview!
I want to know which episode of series 16 Mara Webster was at the live recording for?
Love this 100% !!!
I'm ~6'1" and thinking about it now... if I were to see Alex in person I think I'd be surprised he's a bit taller than me, even though I'm well aware of his height. Funny old things, brains.
Well, this certainly fed my crush on Greg. lol
Greg's note about bonus points and winning here is curious. The very first series featured a person being given a bonus point and ultimately winning the whole thing by only one (Josh Widdicombe), and he obviously did it several times after that. I wonder what example he is specifically thinking of. I know there have been a couple other series that were decided by a single point (most immediate to mind is Kerry Godliman winning s7 over Jessica Knappett) but I'm not sure I can recall greg giving kerry an extra somewhere.
They're referring to Morgana in season 12, who one by one point.
@@aaa303Yes, and that bonus point was different as it wasn't a solo task or a bonus point written in one of the task (like giving bonus point for best cake, which Morgana also won), just Greg at a whim giving her a point for calling Alex "that little fucker". I don't think Greg should be too distraught by the "backlash" on that single point, but he clearly wants to be perceived as being fair with the points in the eyes of the public.
@@axels9179 It's also a moot point, really, because if she hadn't received that bonus point it would, presumably, have led to a tie-breaker she might well have won anyway. (We've never had a tied series though, so who knows how they'd resolve it. I guess it couldn't be with a pre-recorded tie-breaker, because that would lead to accusations of Alex knowing the result in advance and therefore 'choosing' the winner.)
@@phuttyyt I have to imagine they've had an in-studio series tiebreaker ready for years, just in case. I bet Alex would be so giddy at finally getting a chance to use it!
Yeah, the controversial little fucker point. S12 is one of my favourites but that point did seal Morgana the win over Guz and I’m still not happy about it. I’m glad he’s taken the stand to just not award them now. It’s fairer. Ish.
The bonus point controversy seems so silly when the first series was won on the back of a bonus point.
Great interview
Fantastic interview!!
Great lill interview love TM been a fan from show one thanks for this can't wait for the new season...
New task, moving most peas from a plate to a wine glass using only your nose....😅
it's LITTLE Alex Horne!
great interview, best tv show
Brilliant interview. Great job!
You can tell Alex has stopped playing a character and being more himself if you've seen every season.
6.2 is higher than me, you little alex horne
