In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.
I really really wanna see a Tournament Of Losers, where they bring back all the lowest scoring contestants.
Except David Baddiel. My GOD was he painful to watch. The dude is pure, refined cringe in human form. I eventually had to skip parts with him in it. Hell, the lady who neither moved nor participated in, nor gave a shit about, the tasks (Jo) did better than him in almost every task. Half way through the series everyone had to stop laughing at him and just give him pity points to spare his feelings because he was that genuinely pathetic. It’s like when Sarah jokingly said in series 3 “I’m starting to think we shouldn’t be laughing at Paul” except they actually had to stop for David. Combine his complete ineptitude at the most mundane tasks with his overtly strong insecurities (“I’d like to point out that I’m the only one who didn’t get applause walking up here” as well as when he got what seemed to be genuinely mad at Ed for “wanting to win” calling him desperate for giving ANY kind of effort in challenges), and not to forget him constantly bragging about his 4 #1 singles, yet he wrote the most god awful music in every challenge that gave him the chance. How the guy ever became “successful”, or why he chose to be on the show despite never having seen it, is beyond me. Absolutely embarrassing.
Edit: Jesus, I wrote a novel. I put more effort into a comment than he did the whole show. He clearly rubbed me the wrong way! 😂

'Loads of pens.', as the first thing in his pockets during shooting is such a wonderful answer considering how often contestants ask if he's got a pen and he says no.

I instantly thought they should have a task about loads of pens or sign something but there are no writing utensils anywhere
just bc they aren't allows a pen doesn't mean he won't need a few, unless the task calls for it as everything you need to know is always on the task
Giving a 6"2 guy the biggest laptop they could find to make sure he still looked like 'Little Alex Horne' is subtle genius 😭

I find it really lovely being reminded that Alex is a clever guy running a massive show. Watching the episodes I get so easily lulled by his "Little Alex Horne" character.
He's always very good at giving everybody else credit, but it's nice to be reminded that he's the main man.
I like the sinister view of the set up, too. With Alex as an all-knowing, all-seeing entity, the man behind the throne, the puppet master, playing his little games with the contestants and host; Greg as this puppet king, a mad dog on a leash held by Alex; unknowingly waiting for his bravado, hubris, and tiranny to come bite him back in the end.
Yes he may not be the taskmaster, but he is the puppet master! The true mastermind, disguised as a humble servant!
When Alex said some tasks couldn't be aired because they involved “genuine murders”, the first person that I thought must've been involved was Rhod Gilbert.

I love the idea of a grand dining hall booked for only the Taskmasters and their Assistants and maybe a champion of champions as a special guest, that would be quite a to-do.
Have they got enough to do a Taskmastermaster? Each Taskmaster and assistant doing tasks for Greg and Alex...
The taskmasters sitting at a grand luxurious table and all the assistants sitting at a small children's table to the side
Surely the assistants would be stood at the side of their respective Taskmaster ready to obey and serve?
And maybe after, the assistants can be oiled up and sent into a ring to fight? ;-)
The champion of champions of champions, each country has a champion out of the winners of their series, and those international winners must all compete against each other.
I equally wanna see a series of the international grand champions and the international rubbish, the 5 highest/lowest scoring players in taskmaster around the world.
He said "nearly always" because he knew in his heart he couldn't say that he liked the US version

Mainly cause the TV program they Sold it to wanted more trash shows instead.. but probably also cause it sucked? The taskmaster they chose is a mid comedian and not someone youd see as the taskmaster.. unles its in the 70s

I thought it was the realization that he won’t be able to actually have 100 duck sized gregs, followed by the realization that EVEN IF HE COULD, he’d then have to fight them.
It's like the concept of editing doesn't exist and just goes with whatever mess he's saying

OMG listen to his episode of Ed Gamble and James Acaster's podcast. He did a Christmas episode and it was the most bizarre thing I've ever heard. Truly insane. You can never tell how much of what he's saying is a joke.
Alex's comedic timing is so unique; he really is brilliant.

@@shibarmyburnz1978 The cadence on his delivery is really unpredictable. Sometimes he'll put a punchline on an in-breath, change his intonation to a point you wouldn't expect it to be, or stutter on an unexpected syllable. Which makes it more surprising and therefore more amusing.

Someone (cameraman?) laughing at listing Eve as a contestant is wonderful. I wouldn't be able to hold myself back if I was the one filming this, Alex is such a naturally funny guy!

One of my favorite things about the show has been the art direction and design. It’s a great aesthetic boost to the show and yet it’s not overemphasized. I’ve always wished they sold those pictures of the cast posed as polo teams and so on, as postcard sets or something. I loved the Soviet theme.
Very much looking forward to 15 especially for Frankie but they are all great choices. I’m sad that Sean Lock died for many reasons but one is that he will never be on.
The editing is incredibly well done as well. There's a distinct style to how tasks are presented and combined but it never gets too formulaic.
someone in the reddit ama said they would like the pictures of greg as jigsaw puzzles and i think thats a fantastic idea.
The art is always incredible. I'd be hard pressed to pic a favourite between the Arcimboldo-style, the steampunk, and the Magritte-style portraits 🥰

@@danniantagonist I had to image search Arcimboldo and from that I see that they are selling a series 9 notebook with Greg's portrait on the cover, so it's probably worth people checking the TM store for their favourites... There's a scrollable selection under the description for this vid too, inc series 1-4 coasters with his portrait, s3 portrait hoodie, s3 framed portrait, s13 portrait notebook, s13 portrait tote bag etc etc...

I love that almost every moment of Alex's life seems uncomfortable in a comedic way.
Alex Horne is the most working class, middle class guy I can think of. Someone who can fit in with both the high brow in society with his studies into Classics at Cambridge and he can fit in with the crowd down the most rambunctious of pubs. He fits in everywhere
He is quite small, so it adds up

Fell in love with the show after full episodes started getting posted on youtube. Now that I've caught up I can't wait for every new ep.
This is actually really well done. His answers are simple, honest, and funny. He doesn’t go out of his way to make up an answer that doesn’t exist, but still responds in a meaningful way. Well done little alex horner and TM team

I'm a fan from Texas, Alex and it is such a thrill to watch the combination of fear and joy on your face when a contestant puts you in peril, but then you realize it might look great for the show. You deserve a medal of valor. Thank you for the laughs, brother.

@@bushratbeachbum Episode 5, during the "Get the most pleasure from all of these rubber chutes" task. Fern stuck Alex into the chutes/tubes, and his arms were inside as well. Taskmaster reddit speculates that Alex must have fallen over while trying to get out.

The fact he goes out of his way to correct the grammar on some of the questions shows his subtle snarky quirk in-character.

Alex saying that Greg knew Rhod better, and knew exactly the kind of things he would do, is what makes Greg the best Taskmaster lol. To be fair though, he didn't expect Rhod to hide in his wardrobe for half the night while he slept!
Can't believe I missed the AMA! In playing the Taskmaster Board Game we had the task to write our names on slips of paper and put them in the box: most names in the box wins. I wrote my name once, put it in the box, then took the box and ran down the street. Everyone else claimed that it didn't count, but my defense was "it's all written in the task.". Can we get a ruling?

If you haven't already, would love to see two-part task where the actual task is for each contestant to clean up their own mess created in the first part. I really feel for the behind-the-scenes crew having to put things right sometimes. The plastic "Dexter Room" helps of course, but not always.

They just a task in TM Australia, to decorate something with vegemite, second part was to clean off the vegemite, they were only judge on the time it took cleaning it off.

As an American, I can say Comedy Central did not know what they were doing with the format. American Taskmaster is a task to watch. New Zealand Taskmaster is wonderful. I don't know why we thought it would be a good idea to ruin the show.
The current Australian one is really good too
Danish Taskmaster is also amazing. I just wish that there was more than one season available to watch here!

US Fan - can't get enough of this show. So many times it has me falling over from laughing so hard.
Thanks for answering all of these questions. Here's a question I've always wanted to know. Many times, you personally have been involved in the task such as dancing, being tied up, being born, eating food off of people's faces, etc. How do you keep such a straight face? Has there ever been a moment where you just completely lost it and found it near impossible to film? Many thanks to you, Greg, the contestants, and all the production crew for bringing so much laughter and joy to the world. 👍

if you're wanting to do a day abroard you should do a day in one of the other taskmaster houses from one of the spin off series. That would be amazing, and not too expensive for channel 4 especially the European shows

These ARE great questions! I'm so glad someone asked the questions that I would have wanted to ask, but never would have been able to think up. (I'm not too bright, lol.) I love the questions about process (I'm such a nerd for that), and especially about theme and set decoration - I never fail to gasp with delight at what everyone's come up with. 🥰

Hi Alex, Have you/ would you use a task that has been designed by a fan?
Mine Part 1 is to make the best looking Pirate treasure map. It must include the Taskmaster house the location of the treasure that you put on and an X marks the spot. The treasure that is given (e.g. a golden pineapple) must be placed in the place where they decide the X should be.
Part 2 rotate the maps designed by the contestants and each contestant must try to find the treasure using the map. Fastest wins
