Great info as always, John! I bought CIR switch back in January-February of ‘20. Bought way too much and put excess in Tupperware. Probably 3 lbs. I found that container before Christmas break and decided to germ test it. Most of it sprouted! I was shocked. Good stuff!
Glad you doing these. You ever look into mudding oats? I have done this with wheat, rye, oats. Actually decent results. Basically broadcast last couple weeks of April before rain. Right before frost completely leaves. Gentlemen in his 80s told me how.
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 Thanks very much for the reply. The property is new to me, but the area in question was a soybean field last year and appeared weed free before the snow fell. So, after broadcasting the seed in the Spring, does the seed need to be rolled over or packed in somehow?
Question- would it work to just till the plot in say early June when soil temps get up to 60 or so. Then spread RC Tecumseh by hand and cultipack in? Similar to how a guy would plant brassicas? I’m assuming no spray in this scenario. Thanks,
I have a field that I planted 100% to switchgrass June 2022. Can I spray Simazine on this switchgrass in spring of 2023? If so, what is the mix amount? Thank you.
You can but there really is no benefit. They are best suited for different conditions. If you have a thin stand of Cave in Rock in a sandy area, you can over seed Tecumseh.
John, does your switch do well in heavier wetter soil? North central WI. It would be in plots but they do hold water at times. How about your HD screen?
Last fall I put down 100% hard seed (that's what the company said) switchgrass on control soil. With the dry winter I got an early simozine and 24d when it was still freezing at night. Think I will be safe?
Planted your RC Big rock last year came in a little thin with lots of crab grass can I over seed that again this year to make thicker or should I start all over because of the crab grass?
can I frost seed by broadcasting red clover into winter rye? Trying to get a 2fer. early rye for turkey deer feed and later for red clover. Columbus Ohio area

I’m all in on the blackboard too! Ditto what JB Farms said
Probably need bigger writing…
Still perfecting it.
Blackboard is great!
Great info thanks John!
Thanks
Ok thx! I will order it then

Not heard of this before
Great video John, thanks for sharing. Can Switchgrass be planted on a Sandy Soil?
Yes
RC Tecumseh
Another great video! Thank you. If the switchgrass is frost seeded in the Spring, is there anything that needs to be done after broadcasting the seed?
The area should be sprayed and weed free the previous fall before frost seeding.
I’d weeds are persistent, mowing a time or two may be needed.

@@miltg6322ou can frost seed and then Spray Simizine.
If it’s just broadcast, then would I roll (lawn roller) it in.

No
Till before spring green up
Spray 2 times and then you may be ready to plant.

Sure
2 qts per acre prior to green up
Can you mix varieties of switch...for example cave-in-rock mixed with Tucumseh?
You can but there really is no benefit. They are best suited for different conditions. If you have a thin stand of Cave in Rock in a sandy area, you can over seed Tecumseh.
When will you have more RC Big Rock in your store?
December
John, does your switch do well in heavier wetter soil? North central WI. It would be in plots but they do hold water at times. How about your HD screen?
Probably Bigrock. But it must be dry at planting. It can take a little wet growing from time to time .
Screen needs dry ground.

Not sure
Was anything green
@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 a few broad leafs, mainly dirt though
What happens when RC Big is drilled end of May & no rain for 6 weeks?? Will seed still germ if we ever get rain?
Sure
As long as it’s buried you should be fine
April planting in North Texas ?
after some sprayings
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 Thanks this weekend 4/6
How long will the rc big rock keep if I decide to prep my land like you said for a next year planting and what/where is the best storage method?
Should keep well for a few years.
A bin inside your house (constant temperature) is what I would try for.
Can you mix simazine, RU, and 24D for one spraying or do you need to spray each separately?
You can mix it all together for the 1st spraying.
Can you give the mix amount of Simazine, RU and 24D per acre?
Also curious about the amount per acre
@@paulsipe84818-10 pounds per acre
Planted your RC Big rock last year came in a little thin with lots of crab grass can I over seed that again this year to make thicker or should I start all over because of the crab grass?
Let it go until June timeframe and possibly a quinclorac spraying can take care of the unwanted grasses.
can I frost seed by broadcasting red clover into winter rye? Trying to get a 2fer. early rye for turkey deer feed and later for red clover. Columbus Ohio area
Your frost seeding clover onto rye?
That should work fine. Mow the rye a few times in the spring / early summer and it should be fine.
How many seeds per pound is RC Tecumseh ??
196,000 approximately I believe
What if you plow, disc, and full prep the soil?
After tillage to prep I would do multiple sprayings before planting
What variety would you recommend for Arkansas?
Depends on yearly rainfall amounts.
Some drier conditions may require the RC Tecumseh
We get about 30-40” a year but last year we went almost 10 weeks justly-August with no rain.
@@MrRanger518Sandy ground or not?
