My Goldfish are named Major, Minor, Dorian, Lydian and Diminished. The only way I can tell them apart is by their scales.
good one...but a bit slippery....:-)
I see what you did there, great one!
Sounds fishy to me
😧
Ha!
Crazy how they animated Rhett into the green screen!
It's really a bigger studio with far more equipment, made to look smaller.
The Where’s Rhett Shull series begins.
You have to love when your buddy tells you about your own gear...
My first guitar was a classical with nylon strings. I paid $35 for it at Sears when I was 16. I gave it to a friend maybe 30 years ago and I'm still sorry I didn't keep it. ARGH! I'm consoled by the beautiful Taylor that I have now, but of course I wish I had my first guitar too. Don't let go of your instruments, folks! You'll never completely get over it.
You can say that about a lot of things in life. The advice should be don't let regrets rule or bother you, as you don't know what you might have happened if you change these things in your past the outcome could be worse just as much as better.
Hi Rick. Great to see a couple of your basses. I was wondering if you’d consider doing a few videos on common things musicians on different instruments would do in the studio which would annoy you as a producer. Something like “what not to do when you’re tracking bass / drums / electric / acoustic / vocals” etc.
great idea , he has some older videos on mixing, general recording stuff that are really good!
From my experience recording and getting to know engineers/producers:
Good studio etiquette is not to be playing when the engineer is getting the amps mic’d. Be mindful of their ears, that’s their money maker.
Hang your headsets up when not in use.
Ask before you invite anyone in to watch.
Be on time. Which means, don’t show up super early.
Be practiced. Especially practiced to playing with a click.
Hey Rick....regarding the electrical tape on the "Keith Tele", years ago I replaced the pick guard on an old strat I've had. Apparently the sandwiched construction of the new guard made for a rather efficient storage medium for static electric charge. Merely brushing your fingers across it's surface created all manners of clicks and pops. I remember placing a temporary layer of electrical tape on it. It worked rather well.
What you have on that guitar may be on account of something entirely different, however I thought I'd mention my experience none-the-less.
Thought that Vox looked familiar. I have a EKO 12 string.
Wish Dave had a guitar channel
It seems he knows everything about guitars. Its amazing lol. And he can play!!
I appreciate you Gents-exploring the amazing possibilities-so I don't have to ! Massive respect for all that Rick, Dave and Rhett have accomplished -here's hoping that it only gets Better for us all from here !
I just finished watching these 3 videos in succession. You have justified my guitar collection. I'm mildly surprised that you don't have a Gibson Firebird, or a Gretsch in your collection.
I'm not typically a bass player, but I bought a cheap Gretsch Electromatic short scale bass, and I was blown away by the functionality and tone of this thing, I put flatwounds on it, and it's a beast.
Appreciate the guitar tour!
So many guitars that you can't remember your names?
Also liked the wild Rhett sighting, cleverly hidden behind Dave!
Thanks!
OK Rick on the Ricky, any early Rush would be greatly appreciated, anything! I would love to hear you go through Hemispheres.
Hey Rick, I think Flea would be an awesome interview for you, and if you do, it would be interesting to find out about his learning piano later in life, and his trumpet playing as well.
Would also love to see a Yo Yo Ma, Branford and/or Wynton Marsalis and Herbie Hancock or Chick Corea interviews
Great start! Love it.
I'd consider learning how to play a instrument if i could just hang out over there at Rick's place. Seems like a good hang out place. Thank you for the video.
My 98 Stingray is the exact same way Rick. Locks in and holds tune perfectly! I was touring in the VERY early 2000's and just as a joke, checked the tuning for an entire summer and never touched it! It held perfectly all summer! To this day, they neck is as I srt it up back then! Just LOVE that bass! It shares duty with my prototype Tim Landers (Peavey) TL-5!
Rick your 4003 is a 4003s Mono output, dot fingerboard, no binding, sweet Macca specs. Squire had the '64 Rose Morris RM1999 (same as a 4001s).
Rick Beato - so glad to hear you dig early RUSH. I love early to middle RUSH and even some of their later stuff. Cygnus X-1 is one of my faves in addition to the Permanent Waves album.
I really dig that second guitar there - the semi-hollowbody one. I have a soft spot for guitars like that, really awesome. One other thing - in response to the tik tock video - if you want to hear something new that actually sounds *really* good and contains lots of guitar, check out the Flaming Lips brand new album "American Head." I just heard it for the first time yesterday and its already up there in my list of favorite albums of theirs - as good as their last album "Oczy Mlody" (that's another really good one you should check out if you haven't heard it - came out in 2017.
Rick is missing 2 things: A Fender Telecaster with the mirrors and a Dragon jumpsuit! A proper oldschool Page fan gotta have a Dragon jumpsuit! :D Cheers.
Comic and musician Dean DelRay’s been trying for years to track down the maker of Page’s Dragonpants
Outstanding. I wish I could collect drum kits like Rick collects guitars. That Fender 12 string and the Danelectro...Yabba Dabba Do!
Hi Rick, thanks for the cool video! The relaxed acoustic tune you’re playing in the beginning, what is it? I love it!
Tony Levin has been using 5 string StingRays a lot for years, too. Sometimes a low B and sometimes a high C.
He's pretty good on a Chapman Stick.
Just bought the Vox country and western on reverb! Can’t wait to get playing it!
As soon as Dave struck a chord on the Goya it reminded me of Pat Martino's tone.
Dave or Rick, Rick or Dave can always tell you apart by the tone/attack under your fingers on any guitar you play! Play on!
I have a 1972 Fender Jazz bass neck, maple and fretless. It is just like it was when I snagged it in 75. You should buy it and have Dave connect it to a sundry bass.
That EB with the birdseye neck is stunning and probably sounds as good.
I have a 1960's EKO 12 String. A little beaten up but very easy to play and sounds sensational.
Hey, that was fun! Did I miss a video where you guys showed that lovely Gibson archtop you used for one of your Joni Mitchell videos. I loved the sound of that guitar.
I had a similar experience playing somebody else’s fanned fret 6 string bass
It really is intuitive and you just adapt
What do you mean the end Rick you have only just got started love the channel my friend it's fantastic keep up the great work love and respect God bless from the UK 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟😀😀
Congrats on hitting 100K subs on another channel!
I have an EKO acoustic with a set neck, very nice guitar with super comfy neck almost like a shred machine in acoustic form.
Hey Rick !
Love the video !
Dave seems like such knowledgable guy, I’d love to hear about Tokai guitars, especially the LP models, if you ever feel like doing such video !
Much love !
tokai LPs are superb guitars.....great craft and workmanship there....and value for money....
@@stratman9449 thank you man, do you own any ? would you put them next to higher end Gibsons ?
Hey Rick, The guitars bring back memorize of old Vox and Goya. The tele tape is probably to dampen hollow sound of pick guard when you hit surface strumming.
i think you're right there...my tele pickguard is pretty "noisy" and plasticy sounding too....i might try that....
I hope you do an amp collection video next. Then maybe outboard gear?
I have a '72 tele deluxe reissue (same 3-way switch as the Keith tele) and mine is broken as well. Fender really needs to do some QC on them lol.
LOL, on the intro, and love all of your guitars, Mr. Rick.
I'm a Gibson guy myself, preference for humbucker fitted or hollow bodied models, acoustic I favour jumbo bodied vintage models, any make as they all sound different after surviving that long, love me a 12string too, on electric fender sneaks in with the jazzmaster
Well, after seeing your amazing collection I’ve noticed a few missing models for the next round. You need get yourself a Firebird, Jaguar, Gretsch and(as Rhett will surely agree) a Novo. Love the collection man.
Thanks fellas! Im looking at something for Eb, an acoustic video next?
Agreed Keith, what have you discovered you can't possibly live without Rick. 😂Respect and stay healthy all
You got a hell of a guit collection Rick! 👍👍😎😎😎😎😎🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Nice! The end…until the next buying trip. :)
Gear Acquisition Disorder is a thing!
They're not taking your advice Keith 😂 tone is a mental disorder! I'm working on downsizing a little bit myself but it goes back and forth!
Keeeeeeeiiiiiiiitttthhhh! Dave said you need one of those Danos. Sorry, but Dave said.
Love the Aerosmith T Dave. I had one of the originals back in the day.
These were some very cool 3 videos! Now do the same for the amps! That will take a few more videos! hehe!
Ha!... I was watch an amazing interview with Rory Hoffman from 2012, but had to pause it to hear any guitar geek nuggets that Dave puts out ~
Yes! Yes I DO want to play Jobim! 😀
I noticed the resemblance between the Eko and the Vox, but i didn't know they were both made by Eko. I've got a couple new Ekos and they're amazing, you should check them out, especially the Mia 018 (very similar to the Martin).
I was waiting to see a guitar with active pickups.
You might need an explorer with active pups!
Don’t forget that upright bass as well!
My buddy is selling a Vox V239 12 string like this Vox 6 string. Curious if the 6 string is as neck-heavy as the 12 is.
Next video go thru Dave's collection, don't stop this...
Keep in the bloopers, so great
That Tele has a 3-bolt neck!!! I had a 1973 Strat with a 3-bolt neck, I forget what years they made those, but it wasn't very long. I still have my 3-bolt-neck '75 Fernandes Strat clone (!) ...
CBS times...worst fenders of all time....
Makes me think of Buddy Millers Italian guitarrs. So fuckin' cool.
I was 10 or 12 years old when my brother got those first two Led Zep albums (I later got III with my own money when it came out), and hearing the acoustic part to Ramble On brings back such memories ...
The Abasi reminds me, a friend recently posted a Rickenbacker slanted-fret (NOT fanned, they were all at the same non-90-degree angle) Rickenbacker guitar, and I remember as a teen being in a music store in Rome, Ga. (there were two big ones, I forget which one this might have been) about 1974-1975, I played one (the salesman practically shoved it into my hands, apparently they weren't selling well). It did feel a bit weird but he of course said "you get used to it."
Those Basses ... WHY DIDN'T YOU PLUG THEN UP AND PLAY THEM? You could have played the bass part to Ramble On, dubbed in the guitar part, oh it would have been so great ...
Hey Rick: I'd love to hear the 3 Amigos play some covers (or originals). 3 songs with each of you playing bass on one of them.
@rickbeato2 what is the specs on the classical guild mentioned? That tone is heavenly. Would love to know what the wood is, if there is neck reinforcement, etc.
Rick, what about the Taylor 12 string you used in the Acoustic Intros video?
The tele is from the Blacktop series. I have the HH Strat version and I love it. The switching on the strat lets you get split coils on the 2 and 4 positions which gives the guitar a huuge range. I wanted a guitar I could learn on which wouldn't break the bank that could be any guitar I wanted atm. Need a tele sound? got it, how about a hot pup gibson? no prob, strat? gotcha covered. The store I ordered it from didn't even know about the range of this and a couple of the guys that work there immediately bought the ones they had in stock for their gig rigs. I don't know why fender only did this with the HH strat, but the others only had a 3 position switch. My little secret, "one guitar to rule them all"
Neat guitars. (I love obscure Japanese guitars.) Would you recommend your theory book for someone who when it comes to music theory really needs to learn at the most basic of levels? It's something I've been struggling for yrs to understand. When it comes to theory I either have a mental block or a learning disability. I just don't understand why I can't overcome this problem.
Enjoyed!
Dave is awesome!
That is all.
I’d like to see a video on the highest and lowest gauge strings you can possibly use on an Electric and an Acoustic Guitar in Standard Tuning 🎸🤟😎 ☮️
nice see you playing some brasilian stuff! :)
Any update on the release of the Gibson Rick Beato signature Les Paul Special Jr.?
⚓️ Thanks Rick Dave 😎
Cool stuff
The tele was sounding really great.
So beautiful guitars
Rick have you ever interviewed Jeff “Skunk” Baxter? Would be great to hear him and his stories of working as a studio musician and of course Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers. He also has so many connections to producers, engineers and other musicians. Just a thought. 👍
Did the Guild come with the faux alligator HSC?
I wonder if Tony Levin still touts his no G-string MM 3 stringer? That idea has floated around in my head for a couple of decades...
Hows the action on the 4003? I did a setup on a '75 4001 and was not as impressed as I thought I would be. The action was too high and the saddles were bottomed out. I dreamed of owning one for years. I hope the modern version is designed better.
Holy shit! I have a vox just like that i got from my grandfather, never seen another one
I'm considering one of the new Tim Commerford signature Stingray basses. I need a Music Man in my arsenal 😁
Allan recorded with Bill Delapp headless too. Why is there a question mark pointed at the Kiesel if we didn't hear the Kiesel?
Use your Goya to do a breakdown on Morricone's "Spaghetti Western"
soundtracks!
Good comment and Rick Beato should make this idea in a video.
😊
Rick, I was especially digging the Fender 12 - I think the original was called a “Villager”. Why does it have the “split” pickups? Looks sort of like the arrangement on a P-Bass. Didn’t realize Jimmy Page used the Fender 12 on “Stairway” - thought it was just a Rickenbacker 12 with everything set as bright as possible.
That Rhett shout out cracked me up...
The Fox acoustic is my favorite. I’m such a Page nerd . If there’s one guitarist I’d want to meet more than any other it Jimmy Page.
6:15 - What's up with the 'skewed' frets on that ABASI?
That is called multi scale. Every string has a different scale length. It's kinda a string tension thing. Just look up multi scale guitars. I can't explain it well enough! Kinda a shredder thing.
Going to browse Reverb now for the next 5 hours
I love these videos
Who is Joe Beam ? Oh Tom Jobim you meant (just kidding) ! Love your show. BTW Yamandu Costa is a great 7 string-guitar player
Good to see Bobby Moynihan from Saturday Night Live has landed well.
I always wondered why Fender hasn't released a Keith Richards signature telecaster. There is no doubt they would sell a lot! Does anyone know why?
It must be because Keith is not interested but has he ever discussed it in an interview?
hi dave beato and rick onorato
that poor homely abassi,it's mother loved it.
Richard Moroni - Yeah, almost as homely as your average ugly pointy-assed Ibanez!!!
I was a little surprised to not see a Gretsch or a guitar with a bigsby.
That's funny the switch on your Tele didn't work. I had a 72 MIM Tele and had the exact same issue!.
On another note I regret selling my Dano DC3 as I have never seen another one for sale. Ah well, life goes on. Nice collection but I think you need another bass or 3. A fretless, 8 or 12 string (since you're a pearl jam fan), and an acoustic!
That Goya Hollowbody is insane. But now I'm confused. Which one of you is the real Rick Beato? ;-)
Wow man! I am amazed by the Jimmy Page guitars. I want them. I am mexican and I have never owned a mexican fender... Great stuff.
Hi Dave, and Dave :0)
are the carbon fiber acoustics any good?
What is this: the party video after party? Fun times!
Gotta get me one of them Danos
This is cool and all, but when that signature LP coming out? I already sold off my Tribute DC Special and have been collecting my pennies in preparation of its launch. Too bad it's after the price hikes
