"Can anyone tell me why won't just run away while they had a chance to?" Well, isn't that the whole point of the book? Everything they did was considered normal and right by them and yet it was so illogical for the outside viewer. Our society is the same: living the same life, going to school, having a job, making money, buying a lot of things they think they need, forgetting that one day it will be their last day. If you try you can detach from all this and see its absurdity too...
Analogy very well explained... "Do the clones has soul? (As the school was trying to proove)" Looks like not because they were not able to change what they were told their life was about. Does our society has a soul? Well, it seems like we are the same after all...
Honestly this movie really reminds me of animal farming. Animals are brought to this world and they have this destiny that is planned for them. They’re here to feed humans. Or be used in researches (animal testing). And YES they do feel love, care and pain just like the characters in this movie do. And yes they do have souls who deserve respect and freedom.
Yes. I recommend the movie & book to all my vegan friends. It is literally one of the saddest, most thought-provoking stories I have ever come across.✌🏽
“I half closed my eyes and imagined this was the spot where everything I'd ever lost since my childhood had washed up, and I was now standing here in front of it, and if I waited long enough, a tiny figure would appear on the horizon across the field and gradually get larger until I'd see it was Tommy, and he'd wave, and maybe even call.”
Can anyone tell me why wont they just run away while they had a chance to ? They also had a goddamn car...they werent chained up or anything..they could just catch a train and run away.
because they would have had some sense of fear. They had to check into their own homes and therefore, felt they were practically being monitored at all times. They couldn't get a passport or ID of any sort unless it was their cloning file. The story of the children running away from their fate led them to die even earlier, and they did not want to risk that.
@@riri9335 This is exactly why the stroy is so boring. Because conformists and accepters do not make for interesting movie characters, they are worthless as movie characters. In an evil society, those who comply become as evil as those who come up with the evil plans. If the clones had all killed themselves, drowned themselves or killed themselves in some forest, that would still have been a sad ending and they would have died earlier, but at least they could have made sure their bodies are not found before they become worthless for donations, thereby they would have escapted the fate society had planned for them. In an evil society which denies you basic human rights, your only worth comes from escaping the plan which society has for you, if you escape it, even in death, you are a winner and gain a high worth an become special. Non special people are boring and not worth being movie characters
I Think its actually quite interesting that he wrote it that way. Since to me its actually more usual for the Protagonists to Rebell even though in real life its more common for people to accept their faith.
I read somewhere there was a twist to this book. What exactly was the twist? I’m genuinely asking, it was never clear to me what the twist was. Was it the explanations given to Kathy and Tommy by Emily and Madame? Did Kathy, Ruth and Tommy always knew they were clones or not? All that talk about “possible models” would suggest they did know but I’m not sure. I didn’t even know they were clones until I watched this video. Also, why couldn’t they have children? Were their reproductive organs removed as teens or were they just told this as the most strict rule and only believed they were unable to give birth? If they weren’t biologically able give birth, then wouldn’t that mean the individuals they donated their organs to wouldn’t be either?
You know what this sounds like? The Island. But without a happy ending. That’s what it sounds like. Terrifying. I haven’t watched it yet but I might and I have a feeling I’m gonna be confused, terrified, and pouring every teaspoon of water out of me through my tear duct, every bit. PS: I’m think I’m scared and concerned.
@@qzoid3060there was an adaptation made in the form of a movie 12 years ago! a lot of the plot was romanticised, the book is definitely better, but the movie isn’t too bad
I don't understand how you could have listened through the audio without thinking "Damn you can't hear a thing with all these marker noises and echo, let's redo the audio." I mean thanks for putting in the effort in the first place but it can't be that hard to re-record a 5 minute video can it?
I think you missed the point. A large part of the story rests on the fact that they DON'T ever ask "who they are." None of the students ponder that past searching for a possible lookalike from who they may have been cloned. The point is that they were told who they are and what their purpose is (but most will never find out the reason, Kathy and Tommy find out inadvertently) and never dare to go against it or carve themselves a full, rich identity. They don't even wonder where exactly they came from for the most part. They just resign themselves to the life that was chosen for them.
Daniela Puentes Ruth thought Kathy wanted to know everything about sex, but actually, it turns out she wanted to find her model (because for some reason the models tend to be prostitutes, junkies, etc.). It is then revealed in the end that Tommy knew that Kathy was looking for her model.
Kathy was looking for bed possible in the porn magazines, thinking she may find her possible because Kathy would have sexual urges and thought that was because her possible could’ve been a sex worker
There wasn't really a definite reason behind that. It was just because she was curious. Basically the characters were 'clones', and they purpose was to donate vital organs. Kathy had se*ual urges, which made her think she was perhaps based off a model in the magazine.
