This video is spot on. Thank you. I was iron deficient (without anemia) and my symptoms became severe. I couldn’t drive (couldn’t judge space), had fatigue, dizziness, migraines, shortness of breath, restless legs, brain fog, exercise intolerance… and more. 12 doctors and 3 emergency rooms couldn’t figure it out. I googled nonstop every day because I thought I was going to die. Doctors wanted to send me to a neurologist. I misdiagnosed myself a few times (I gave up on doctors) and finally came across “iron deficiency without anemia” by esa soppi, and the causes fit me like a glove. I had heavy periods, I was a vegetarian for 9 years, I was taking a PPI (low stomach acid- don’t get me started on this- PPI for GERD which was really low stomach acid). I got so much better about day 4 of taking 150mg of iron twice a day, and every month new symptoms would disappear that I didn’t even know was related. It was all so terrifying and I’m so thankful I figured it out. I don’t know how many women are out there who haven’t figured it out but it sure depresses me!
Same right here my heart rate would always be high and I checked it and there was nothing wrong with my heart then I did a ferritin test and I will start taking iron twice a week for 3weeks with some vitamins I feel so comforted reading ur comment
You are definitely right. My father eats clay when he was about to passed away I was only 13 at that time I didn't know why he was craving for the clay he told me to get some clay feel gross. But now I know its iron dificiency. Thank you doctor God will bless you and your family 😊
Always take iron supplements at the different time than calcium supplements or food high on calcium. Calcium and iron compete for the same receptors in the body so, consuming calcium at the same time as an iron supplement can inhibit the absorption of the iron. For iron absorption it's best to take iron with vitamin C to empty stomach or with food low on calcium and fibre.
And with copper. In 2 month of iron, c, and copper I went from 7.2 hemoglobin to 13.5. Doctors said iron doesn’t go up fast without infusions. I had one transfusion but my level had already gone from 7.2 to 9.2 before the transfusion. It’s likely that Mono caused my iron loss! But the doctors don’t really seem to know. It was until a hematologist ordered extensive blood work that the mono was discovered. They chalked up my symptoms to low iron. Doctors don’t know…
I know I’m iron deficient but this is all me me me!!!! The fatigue, being very pale(I stay out of the sun too though), hair loss, very swollen ankles(I heard that can be part of iron deficiency), irritation, restless legs, eating ice for years, brittle nails, and I get ulcers in my mouth badly. My gosh, this man is a genius. I have to watch his other links on it!
Omg, I'm plant based & I have the ridged, crumbly nails- my grandma had the grooves in her nails, too, so I thought it was just genetic!! I've also been experiencing RLS!! Im going to start taking an iron suppliment!! Thanks Dr Berg!!✨
I have been watching Doctor Berg's videos for some time, and I can confirm how important these topics are regarding inflammation and anemia. I was able to help a dear friend eho had a plethora of issues, she had: fibromyalgia, allergies to all sorts of things, bad anemia, no nail growth, muscle deterioration, and a variety of other inflammation related issues. 2 months later of one meal a day of nutrient dense foods, vitamins (vitamin d, and magnesium especially), lower stress surrounding, and light excercises she is now cured of her inflammation and autoimmune disease. Dr. Berg is doing good work here and the information/tools he provides can be invaluable in a practical sense to living a better life.
@@תמירגולדנר-ג5ט depends on tine of year. During winter you want 5000 to 10000 IU's of vitamin D. During the summer if you are outside alot you almost need none or maybe 1000 IUs (your body makes vitamin d very well from sunlight).
Thank you so much, Dr. Berg. I'm dealing with this anemia, along with having anemias caused by low B12 and folate, I also have chronic inflammation. Your videos are very helpful to me and I appreciate you taking the time to educate so many of us. Have a good day!
I had been vegan for a year and a half, and now my iron storage is 11. my hair has changed 360 degrees to thin hair, two weeks ago I noticed my lips got very dark, have a dry layer, and a painful dark cracked at the corner
I have been eating PICA since I was a teenager and never knew the connection. I went to my doctor and explained the craving but no explanation. Thank you dr Berg for pointing me in the right direction
I fast, do Keto, drink no more than 1 cup of coffee a day, and also stay very active with running and skiing. I don’t have heavy periods anymore, so am baffled by my low iron levels. I eat red meat at least 3x weekly. One thing that wasn’t mentioned in the video is running or an abundance of exercise as a cause. My symptoms always pick up the more active I am and it’s very difficult to keep up with, with diet alone.
Think about animal behavior... Animals only use their body to find food and are only speeding up their body, to catch food. But will not exercise and run high speed after a gazelle just for fun. They try to safe energy and unintantional energy spilling. But we humans train, and run just to stay fit and think it is healthy doing it Some run every day, without noticing they are doing to much. No animal wears itself out, if it is not for catching things to eat. They are trying to not deplete their body. Otherwise the body needs more energy and more food is needed to replenish the body. On the other hand... We humans have easer access to food every day and eat constantly. But they eat crap, so that is not a good idea either. And eating but not exercising at all, is bad too. You need to stay active physically. But do not overdo it.
Asked docs and few other experts why I craved chalk. Discovered I had dangerously low iron. Blood transfusion and iron infusion fixed that problem, and pica went away.
I m craving ice but blood tests showing iron got fixed (used to be low iron due gut dysbiosis, leaky gut, inflammation, gum bleeding, chronic fatigue, brain fog, cognitive skills not clear enough, peeling scalp skin, sometimes face skin peeling Acne, day time sleepiness due apnea cuz the allergies, histamin intolerances etc.) I was fully healthy under 12 years old. Except missing iron, pale skin.(due low sun explosure) after that bit adhd symptoms due tiredness etc. Chronic fatigue & acne & allergies etc started and things got worst and worst. Over the years one thing helped truly, and that’s fasting. If I would have been IF or fast sometimes while growing I probably would have been taller also, but its fine die 1,8m is good in my country. Researching things up it got a lot better, but things that I was found amd thought they are the cause were only a symptoms of a bigger cause. I do think that vaccination that I got about at 12 yrs old, the H1N1 one or something like that did cause more harm than positive effect. After birth we get like 8-12 vaccines until the age of 3 or smth. I found out weeks ago that I had 3 toxic levels of heavy metals. Still looking for solutions that can solve it. Found injection that removes heavy metals and us army uses it etc. But I m based in europe.. probably will try Germany. But I don’t speak german just english. Lol If you have some good advice I would likely to hear it.
Former anaemic person here, still trying to re-fill my ferritin levels (iron storage). It’s important to take iron pills with folic acid, and avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, etc) and milk, because of calcium. Recommend natures plus chelated iron, which is very bioavailable and has minimal GI side effects. Thanks for the video Dr. Berg!
@@dania2369 Water or Juice, like orange juice, cranberry juice, pineapple juice, tomato juice, etc. I certainly don’t miss having milk with my coffee. The calcium comes from leafy greens, mostly, not so much from milk. Vitamin d3 and k2 both make sure that calcium ends up in the bones (for strong bones, teeth, etc.), and not in the arteries to clog them up, which may lead to cardiac problems.
I've cooked in cast iron skillets my entire adult life and expected to have an iron overload. Instead I have many of your sympotom of iron deficiency. How can this be? I am in the midst of changing to non-iron skillets. Should I keep using the cast iron? Confused! And I so respect your knowledge!
My hemoglobin is fine but my ferritin is 23 😮... its been a nightmare... it all came to ahead 7 weeks ago. Ive lost 40 lbs, cant get out of bed, heart palpitations, muscle contractions, chest pain, loss of appetite, skin flushing, ocular migraines, headaches, lethargy, dehydration, EXTREME back pain and chest pain... if anyome has these Symptoms GET UR FERRITIN CHECKED. Even if youre hemoglobin is fine your ferritin can be extremely low.
How are you now? I had a ferritin of 9 and hamoglobin of 12. After a small fight with my doctor I got infusions. Two already received, 3 up to go. All paid by myself. I'm from Germany, here the insurance only pays if the hamoglobin is low. This Thursday I'll check my blood again...
@@ireefree2024 I was also severely dehydrated. Ended up in ER. Got IV fluids and been good since. I feel fine now. I was just severely dehydrated and was throwing a few things off. Kidney function had already started improving since doctors visit 6 days prior when it showed low levels.
I'm happy that you're better. For me my journey started three months again after I donated blood (had a cold aswell, what I didn't know either). Didn't know about Ferritin at all, although I knew in the past (20 years ago) I had iron deficiency but never this bad. I'm not so bad affected as you are but the breathing issues and heart racing is the worst. Muscle ache and breast ache is much better, almost gone. Only the heart racing is still there if I don't rest... Did you had iron Infusions also or just against dehydration? If so which one? I had Venofer. First one was great after the second I had head ache and was naucisous. Hope my English is great enough and you can understand me 😊
I have chronic issues with this. My arms and legs are so fatigued when my hemoglobin is low. I have to get blood transfusions at least once a quarter. It’s so draining-but I absolutely cannot function when my blood is low. I have so much trouble walking, it’s very painful. I have pain in my legs and I get so winded, if only walking a couple of feet.
As someone who has just fasted the whole month of Ramadan, I would definitely recommend fasting. I have anorexia that makes me anaemic and I struggle with having enough iron in my body. I usually get very dry chapped lips and skin around the face and edges of the nose. What I noticed when I was fasting is that my health went up. I stopped getting dry skin. My energy levels went up even though I found myself hungry of course and when I had a flu it didn't stop me at all compared to usual. Now that I have stopped fasting I watched this video to why I am getting dry skin and dry lips again and would you know the answer is clear
I was always tired for some reason regardless of the lifestyle changes I've made. Even if I got enough sleep, exercised, etc... I went to the doctor and got blood tested and told me that my iron level was low.
@@Future_Ghost76 I actually don't think that's correct, but I could be wrong I just did a quick google search maybe we're looking at different sources. i think he said iron supplements can be bad because what you need is to improve absorption of the minerals... at least that what i understood. I have iron supplements but i take them around my period only and here and there, i dont take them otherwise, i am working on improving absoprtion by taking ACV
did you have vertigo? I feel so light headed and can't understand why, it could be iron, or B12 or that I have a small child and did not sleep for a year at least one entire night :)
@@ellypretty yes I did. I had low adrenal hormones measured on DUTCH test and also hypothyroid. Unsure what causes it also. Im sensitive to barometric pressure changes with weather shifts too
Prune juice, olives and mulberries are the three types of fruit with the highest iron concentration per portion. These fruit also contain antioxidants and a variety of other nutrients beneficial to health👍
It doesn’t matter how much iron a plant has when virtually nothing can be absorbed by humans and the little bit that gets absorbed must be converted and doesn’t saturate the bones which leads to anemia and brittle bones down the road
Blood Pressure/Beta Blocker meds can also cause Anemia. Most cases are slight but some are severe. I went from Hemoglobin at 13 to 7.9 after 3 weeks of BP meds. I haven't done a test since my Endocrinologist cut it in half but I do feel much better....not great, but much much better.
Could you possibly share which medication you're on or were on? I've always been at least a little bit anemic but it recently has dropped to critically low levels and I'm wondering if there's a correlation between the meds and drop in levels that could/would help me find answers or potentially explain this for me. If you don't feel comfortable sharing, I understand and respect your privacy. I just figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
Thank you so much Dr Berg!! You’re amazing and my favourite activity is to binge watch your videos over and over again!! 😍😍 because of you I started having turmeric and apple cider every day and that changed my life

Thank you fine sir, comments like you are so helpful because in a video he’s said there’s always an exception to the rule. Like for example certain types of people can’t consume vitamin D3 and apple cider vinegar.
You can also have these same symptoms if your ferritin is low and regular bloodwork is normal. I recently found out my ferritin level is 18 which means I am iron deficient.
Can you do a video on high levels of iron and what symptoms and issues can develop and what can be done to lower iron levels? Particularly for someone on Keto or taking hormones?
I was vegan for almost 20 years and everything was ok (because I seem to have a large supply of all the vitamins in my body). But now I have started to get all the serious symptoms of vitamin B12 and D deficiency and because of that I have to stop veganism, so that the symptoms do not turn into chronic diseases. I start with eggs, raw Kefir, goat chees..
There is a chance that you probably didn't have a well balanced vegan diet. Humans of course are omnivores but people have been fine doing it. Even Dr berg himself says 7 to 10 cups of veggies a day. I'm not vegan, I love my beef bolognese, and I don't know how you did your vegan diet but you should look back on it and review what you ate.
You just need those supplements. Did you know that MOST people, including carnivores, are seriously depleted of B12 and D vitamins? It is Not a vegan matter, everyone needs these supplements.
@@paolac.1678 that is true, we need those alot especially when you consider that we would need to eat loads of food to get them in adequate amounts. I've also heard that it's common for vegans to supplement iron?
@@patrick05020 no, it's Not necessary, unless losing great amounts of blood for some reason. Normally iron is found in many vegetables and legumes, especially in dry beans and lentils (not the canned ones which have a lot less of every nutrient). Also a lot of iron in blackstap molasses (dr Berg's video). My iron was perfectly fine during more than 4 years of being vegan, until 18 months ago that I started losing horrible amounts of blood in my periods. It's been hard but yesterday I found the fastest solution in a dr Berg's video about molasses, many comments about that being effective 🙂
Dr Berg can you do a video about Ferritin vs hemoglobin vs rbc? what happens if you have normal hemoglobin and rbc but really low ferritin? how do you correct this?
Dr. Berg my husband watches a lot of your videos to try and help guide me and him. over the past couple years since I’ve turned 40 I have started to feel all the symptoms you were saying although my labs always came up clear I haven’t had my labs done in the last couple years because of Covid so I recently this week went into the doctors and have my labs done told her how I was feeling and my ferrinton level came back under 30 which my husband immediately went to this video and we watched it and everything that’s a side effect that I’ve been having is what you were listing underneath this low iron immediately I started following what you said to do but in the meantime I still reach out to my doctor just curious of what they would say and of course they said that they were not worried and I turned around and told the nurse well I am worried because I am only 42 years old almost this week coming up and I shouldn’t be feeling like this I am full of energy usually love to exercise love to go outdoors. But my whole demeanor has diminished along with everything else side effect that you said happens so I told the nurse that I will go ahead and follow what I know I need to do for myself and she was shocked ! mind you have only been doing it for a couple days I already feel a little bit more better today and more energy I never take naps in the last couple months I fall asleep in the middle of the day not even knowing how I fell asleep I’m so fatigued. Any advice for me would be amazing besides this video and I watched a few of your other videos that branch off about vitamins and stuff to try and guide myself back to the right health so I can feel like myself once again and be able to function and live my life with energy ! hopefully lift this fogginess off my mind. I’m a fairly happy person and I’ve been so irritated lots of body pain restless legs hair thinning, very heavy menstrual’s you name it you’ve said it. Thank you so much that you’re on here thank God my husband found you❤️🙏
Hi Dr. Eric! I'm from Brazil and I love your videos. I learn a lot from them! Can parasites prevent iron absorption? Dr. Eric, could you make a video about deparatization? Would be very good if you provide subtitles in portuguese. Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏❤
Hi Dr. Berg, I have just been diagnosed with too much iron in my blood. So I’m IF, alternating one and two meals a day usually going twenty hours for a IF. I’m just not that hungry any more but eat sensibly. Plenty of greens a little meat, fish no sugar/s.
Thanks for the great video. I became anemic by taking high dose zinc for several years to lower my free copper. I was also drinking tea with all my meals which was blocking 70% of my iron absorption. My iron got so low that my hair started falling out, which was a blessing in disguise, because it motivated me into researching what was causing the problem. I was eating red meat like a vulture and never dreamed I could be anemic.
@@KBrown7 I've heard that the dark meat in chicken has more iron than the white meat. A low thyroid can also cause hair to fall out. Tyrosine and iodine are needed to make T4 hormone and to convert it to the active T3, you need iron, vit A, vit D, zinc, B2, B6, B12 and magnesium. Instead of taking a thyroid pill to treat the symptoms, I started taking all of these things to correct the problem.
@@KBrown7 I could be wrong, but I don't think green tea blocks iron absorption, only black tea does this. Black tea blocks 70% of the absorption and coffee blocks 39%. I still drink coffee and black tea, but don't drink it within 2 hours, before or after meals. Have you also been experiencing hair loss like I was? You can also look at your nails to determine if your iron is low. A low iron causes vertical lines or ridges and it also causes black circles around the eyes. Mine became so low that I also started getting blurry vision.
@@captainamerica9028 calcium disrupts the absorption of iron so when people say tea or coffee blocks iron absorption, they're talking about milk tea etc.
Low stomach acid should be NO.1 on the list.... It is truly staggering that over 1 billion people worldwide have iron deficiency anaemia, myself included (although I am healing from it), but if you look at the diets of these 1 billion people and did a survey on where these people lived, I think you would find one of two scenarios; -Firstly, those who have iron deficiency in sub- Saharan Africa are living in extreme poverty, with limited or no access to proper food, and are therefore chronically deficient in a LOT of nutrients, not just iron. This is NOT their fault, of course. This problem is not caused by them, nor can it be fixed by them unfortunately. - Secondly, the second category of people are those in the developed world, in countries like America, UK, Australia who have an iron problem despite an excess of food consumption and nutrients in the diet. These people, including formerly myself, eat proper meals with enough nutrients and have low iron sometimes for years, yet are totally ignorant of its causes. The causes of low iron is the diet, and specifically, an excess of SUGAR in the diet. It is not lack of red meat or heavy periods. Yes, these certainly contribute to low iron, but they are not the sole cause. That is why not every woman with a heavy period or every vegetarian is anaemic. If you have had low iron for years, and live in the developed world with an abundance of nutrients and food, you really have to go back to your diet. If you are eating too much sugar, your stomach levels will naturally be less acidic. You need a stable stomach acid level to break down the nutrients in your food, including iron. The body naturally doesn't absorb much iron from the foods we eat anyway and that is normal. As women over the age of 18 years, we must eat 18mg of iron daily to absorb the measly 1.8mg that the body actually needs. The body works hard to absorb any and all iron you are giving it, but it cannot function properly if you fill up with high sugar foods. Secondly, the impact of stress also affects how iron is absorbed in the body. Stress also lowers stomach acid levels, which inhibits iron absorption. So many people in Western society eat high sugar, processed diets AND have high stress levels, so knowing what you now know, is it any wonder that we contribute to the 1 billion plus people worldwide who are iron deficient? This video is helpful, and does identify some contributing causes, but if you can't work out the root cause of the issue, sugar and stress, it doesn't really matter about the other contributing factors. Also...I want to add that calcium blocks iron absorption. So if your diet is partial to calcium rich foods, like mine was, such as chocolate and cheese, you may want to cut back on these foods slightly and see how your iron levels improve and much better you truly feel. Thank you and I hope this benefits someone. Being anaemic is so debilitating and has caused me fatigue beyond what I can put into words. I wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy.
Anemias arise primarily from Vitamin B12 & Folate deficiency. You need bioactive B12 - Methylcobalamin and Folate 5MTHF. In addition to b12 & folate you need to bump up other iron absorption cofactor like Vitamin C & Copper, while reducing intake of molybdenum & zinc. Additionally Vitamin B5 & B6 also participate in Heme synthesis. It's not so much about increasing iron intake, but about promoting iron absorption. Most fatigue is due to impaired RBC & DNA synthesis and the lack of fresh blood supply carrying oxygen to the tissues including brain. Most inflammation is also due to DNA repair impairments in lymphocytes again caused by disruption in Folate cycle stemming from deficiencies in Folate & B12 as well as few minerals like Magnesium. The liver also has stores of iron, but that can get impacted if you have fatty liver disease. I am NOT a proponent of having Vitamin D indiscriminately for inflammation, because Vitamin D as a lipid soluble nutrient in high doses requires optimal bile flow (gall bladder) and enzymatic conversions (liver & kidneys) and other cofactor like lipase output from pancreas & many folks have issues with one or more of these.
Thank you for the comment, you are so correct. I do not have a gull bladder and I think that is why I am low on vitamin D, and I really should be taking bile salt. Without proper monitoring I really prefer not to, instead I go for the natural enzymes eating pineapple and papaya. However, I am realizing that as we age the liver will needs more help.
@@dorisagape9768 The artificial bile salts do Not work the same way as human bile salts for several reasons. 1. The bile Salt constitution is slightly different in Ox bile or TUDCA. 2. Bile is supposed to flow from bile ducts into the duodenum, and NOT from stomach into the duodenum which happens when you take artifical bile salts. Instead take ingredients that promote Human bile output and flow : 1. Choline 2. Glycine 3. Taurine 4. 5MTHF & b12
I found out I had anemia in 2018. It's been affecting me my whole life tbh. I get cold very easily, tired, especially after eating lunch. I'm home more these days, so I take long naps. Dry skin and lips since forever. I'm black, so the paleness is in my palms, lip and eye (not sure what the name for that part is). I drink A LOT of tea and its only now that I'm finding out that may not be a good thing 😣 I'll be honest, they told me it was mild and I didn't do much for it. I hate tablets, those never really seemed to work and I just eat whatever's in the house, but I think it may have caught up to me now 😅 Recently got sick again and my family think it may have something to do with the anemia, so I'm going to the doctor's and for a blood test.
@@heroyster1194 Haha 😅😅 I've ended up hospitalized and my worsening anemia may be due to bleeding in my colon from colitis or Crohn's. Currently waiting on a diagnosis. Things escalated quickly! I'm currently doing a lot better now though.
I am 72 years old. My doctor found that I was low in iron and B12. I was perplexed, because I eat very well. Did some research and discovered that iron rich plant sources become useless when eaten with coffee. Coffee inhibits iron absorption of plant sources. I was all set to give up having coffee (which I love). Then.. I learned that if one eats calves liver? Coffee will not effect the absorption of its kind of iron and B12. Sure enough. I began eating a good amount of calves liver with onions and veggies. Next blood test showed normal levels of iron and B12. Now eating liver every fourth day as a way of life. And... still enjoying my fresh ground coffee.
@Elizabeth Muyo Were you talking to me? I said it was corrected with a simple change and I am now fine. Thanks anyway. Its not an illness. Its a condition.
Also copper deficiency can cause iron insufficient absorption also not enough vitamin C, as well as retinol most cases it’s Copper deficiency according to a lot of research and naturopathic doctors.
What can I do for low stomach acid? I had my gallbladder removed a number of years ago! I had reflux for years and gastrologist told me i need to take omeprozol for the rest of my life if i need it. I started to research and figured out i have low stomach acid. So i started treating it recently. Lately i am suffering from other symptoms, like extreme tiredness (i could fall asleep during the day on a spot), low exercise tolerance like it was mentioned in this video, eye twitching, migrenes.. And bruising myself (every little bump would result in heavy bruises) and i was suggested by my aunt to take iron test which showed iron deficiency right there. On top of that i feel very low and sad, feel like crying for no reason, i feel so exhausted and unmotivated...
I gave myself iron deficiency anemia by donating blood too many times last year. My symptoms were a bounding heartbeat and palpitations. I need iron supplements twice a day for 6 months to build up my iron stores again. All good now and off supplements.
Last time I had bloodwork my Iron was at 7. Your right I get all those symptoms except pica in my case. I suffer from inflammation causing chronic pain in upper back and neck. I do have my gallbladder out when I was 20 I'm now 40 and can hardly eat any food cause it gives me upper GI issues.
Last point on chronic inflammation correlated with anemia: I have struggled with eczema since the age of 2, I have always been anemic. My eczema symptoms have subsided and now just occasional flare ups, but should I still stay away from taking iron pills and focus on Vit D+ fasting? Curious to know if anyone has similar symptoms.
Eczema especially in Asians is sometimes a allergy to fish... Not specifically fish, but the toxins in fish, Mercury, and poisons from water pollution.. Further, write a food diary to record your food intake.... You will see a pattern usually 2 to 3 days after the bad food....ayervedic Yogi masters regularly cure exzema... Investigate for yourself... Anemia is protein deficient.. Your immune system runs on protein, with out the protien your immune system has false alerts (inflammation).... Starvation for 3 days almost always is healthy for people.... The digestive system needs a rest sometimes
Dr. Berg, thank you for the information. You mention heavy menstrual cycles being due to high estrogen levels. Among the symptoms I have, I get really really painful cramps in my low abdomen (so much so that I can't stand and it is shooting up from my rectum and in my intestinal tract)...of course, there are other symptoms. My doctor said that he is not concerned about my hemoglobin. However, I am. My symptoms have progressively worsened over time. I am not especially over weight and I do exercise (although I can't run as often as I was because my back is often sore from carrying all the waste in my bloated belly as well as my muscles hurt more and I am always fatigued, but I do walk a lot). I just wondered if I am overreacting or do I have legitimate reason to want to seek another medical professional opinion? I know that you can't really answer, but any information you could provide would greatly benefit me as I value your commitment to health and wellness, and I believe that you have a great NEED to actually WANT to help, as all doctors don't seek out answers when they should legitimately want to.
It started off with shortness of breath with me which turned into heartburn and chest tightness and palpitations. I took omeprazole which made things worse. I started having twitching under one of my eyes, head pressure and pressure behind my ears, sinus pressure and then blurry vision. I started taking B complex and felt so much better. In a week all symptoms were gone but still I have blurry vision certain days and my nerves in my head feel tight. I also started taking b12 1000mcg and Vitamin D and I am feeling better but not at my best. Yesterday I took a Tylenol for some sinus pain and I again started feeling the tingling in my arms and legs and today my vision is blurry again. I don’t understand this. Maybe I should start taking iron supplement and see what happens?

Looking for answers to my unusual symptoms. 35F,full hysterectomy so no periods. Every few months for over a year: My hemoglobin suddenly drops to dangerously low levels(last drop my HGB was 3.9). Zero free iron.. yes, Zero...even when given iron by injection. Its very painful with full body shakes, low temperature, muscle and joint aches. The hospital gives me a blood transfusions and I feel better,at least until another drop. No bleeds found, despite having three specialists looking for causes. Now my liver and spleen are swollen. I've nearly died three times in the past eight months and doctors still don't know why. I wrote to the Mayo clinic and im hopeful.
@Bok Choy yes. Unfortunately, when I drop, all of my vital nutrients drop with it. Critically low levels, no answers. I'm waiting to see a neurologist and just finished gastro. No bleeds, sigh.
@Bok Choy thank you so much. So far I'm on constant iron transfusions. I've found a lot of help with a Facebook group called the Iron Protocol as well, they're very informative. I'll pray for you as well 🙏
I have an 18 yo daughter. Didnt think of much when I saw her snacking on ice. Shes been doing this for at least 3 years. She also has most of the symptoms you listed, including loosing some hair. recently after a fever & throat infection it was revealed she has Iron Deficiency Anemia. They will perform a fecal/stool test (for blood). Im really worried about her. Should I be?
Unless she's taking those harsh iron pills, maybe look into Ancestral Supplements; that might help if her iron is low. They have a blood vitality pill that is great for that. It's potent and you don't need much to start with.
Thank you Dr.Berg it sure helps me watching your videos love them. I’m 75 yrs old I do have severe GERDS . I see a GI specialist. I have had occurrences of waking up in middle of night were I have vomit or bile in my mouth. The doctor changed my medication but did not help he has ordered a GI tube to be inserted in my nose to my stomach . I’m kinda nervous cause now I have a problem swallowing medication.I told this doctor I get mucous right after I eat no matter what I eat. Just frustrated 😞

Maybe cut the coffee
Think about animal behavior...
Animals only use their body to find food and are only speeding up their body, to catch food. But will not exercise and run high speed after a gazelle just for fun. They try to safe energy and unintantional energy spilling.
But we humans train, and run just to stay fit and think it is healthy doing it
Some run every day, without noticing they are doing to much.
From what I understand exercise does deplete you of iron.
Asked docs and few other experts why I craved chalk. Discovered I had dangerously low iron. Blood transfusion and iron infusion fixed that problem, and pica went away.
I craved ice. Ate it every chance I had. Received blood and the craving instantly went away.
I m craving ice but blood tests showing iron got fixed (used to be low iron due gut dysbiosis, leaky gut, inflammation, gum bleeding, chronic fatigue, brain fog, cognitive skills not clear enough, peeling scalp skin, sometimes face skin peeling
Acne, day time sleepiness due apnea cuz the allergies, histamin intolerances etc.)
I was fully healthy under 12 years old.

Mercury exposure can also cause iron deficiency. If you have amalgams in your mouth they can cause an array of health complications.

I have pain in my legs and I get so winded, if only walking a couple of feet.
As someone who has just fasted the whole month of Ramadan, I would definitely recommend fasting. I have anorexia that makes me anaemic and I struggle with having enough iron in my body. My energy levels went up even though I found myself hungry of course and when I had a flu it didn't stop me at all compared to usual. Now that I have stopped fasting I watched this video to why I am getting dry skin and dry lips again and would you know the answer is clear

It is truly staggering that over 1 billion people worldwide have iron deficiency anaemia, myself included (although I am healing from it), but if you look at the diets of these 1 billion people and did a survey on where these people lived, I think you would find one of two scenarios;
-Firstly, those who have iron deficiency in sub- Saharan Africa are living in extreme poverty, with limited or no access to proper food, and are therefore chronically deficient in a LOT of nutrients, not just iron.
Thank you for all this information
Amen to that!!❤
This video is spot on DrBerg you are so intelligent
Thank you so much!
Wow!! Great answer
Instead take ingredients that promote Human bile output and flow :
1. Choline
2. Glycine
3. Taurine
4. 5MTHF & b12
Can you talk about lactoferrin? The antimicrobial activity of lactoferrin is due to its ability to bind to iron and make it unavailable to bacteria.
Thank you Dr. Berg. great info.
Absolutely fantastic topic.Thankful dr Berg
I found out I had anemia in 2018. It's been affecting me my whole life tbh. I get cold very easily, tired, especially after eating lunch. I'm home more these days, so I take long naps. Dry skin and lips since forever. I'm black, so the paleness is in my palms, lip and eye (not sure what the name for that part is).
I drink A LOT of tea and its only now that I'm finding out that may not be a good thing 😣
I'll be honest, they told me it was mild and I didn't do much for it. I hate tablets, those never really seemed to work and I just eat whatever's in the house, but I think it may have caught up to me now 😅 Recently got sick again and my family think it may have something to do with the anemia, so I'm going to the doctor's and for a blood test.
How are you now?

Its a condition.
you could also drink the coffee before or after the meal, just increase the time in between.
Also copper deficiency can cause iron insufficient absorption also not enough vitamin C, as well as retinol most cases it’s Copper deficiency according to a lot of research and naturopathic doctors.

What can I do for low stomach acid? I had my gallbladder removed a number of years ago! Now I feel a dull burning way down in the pit of my stomach, and I have a hard time digesting my food, which is making my bood sugar go up! I get very gassy too. I had a stool test done the results was okay! Any help will be gratefully appreciated!

I cut out a main source of inflammation after a spinal injury by not consuming anymore Nightshades (a radical difference)...still have neuropathy, but Turmeric tincture (with Piperine) and plenty of D has helped...plus all your excellent advice on supplementation, IF etc.. =D
There is a good reason you have over 4 million subscribers!
@Bok Choy I've been taking B12 at least three decades due to the fact that I don't eat meat...what really helps though is intermittent fasting ! And, swimming again in the ocean =D Most of neuropathy down front of legs has disappeared
Interesting. I have anemia caused by tumeric. Ginger, close relative of tumeric also causes me problems.
Same here :ocean swimmer, intermittent fasting, low carb, high fat, no meat (i eat fish tho)...my neuropathy has greatly improved. Also take Boswellia Serrata

What's the best iron supplement and how much to take
Last time I had bloodwork my Iron was at 7. Your right I get all those symptoms except pica in my case. I suffer from inflammation causing chronic pain in upper back and neck. I do have my gallbladder out when I was 20 I'm now 40 and can hardly eat any food cause it gives me upper GI issues.
If your hemoglobin level is 7, you are nearly in need of a transfusion. Shirley your doc spoke to you about it.
whats the RDI of iron and is it safe and useful to take synthetic iron supplements?
Nice video Dr Berg! What about supplements with iron? Curry leaves is a good source of iron?
Chelated iron is the best more absorbable type
What if it is inherited from a parent? What do we focus then? How do we know which cause we inherited?
Can B12 helps in iron deficiency? Thanks Dr. Berg 🙏🙏🙏
I would like the doctor to talk about iron deficiency and anemia due to thalassemia
Yes same request to dr Berg . Sir pl do a video on thalassemia minor trait . Such a common problem worldwide . We cannot take iron supplements
Watch dr Biswaroop Roy chodary diet videos.
I had hair loss, fatigue and ice eating from anemia due to heavy periods from fibroids.
Can you explore the link between iron deficiency, thyroid and weight loss?
Hi! I will check with Dr. Berg about doing a video on this subject.

I have thalasemia. Does this cause anaemia. Your reply is highly appreciated
Dr. Berg, thank you for the information. You mention heavy menstrual cycles being due to high estrogen levels. I've been on hormone therapy to increase my progesterone level to reduce the side effects of my heavy and painful cycle. I am still anemic although I take a supplement, eat red meat, and veggies. I am going to try the supplement mentioned in the previous video.
how can you increase progesterone??

I am going to take iron supplements for my restless leg syndrome ~~ thanks doc
I LOVE crunching on ice, always have. I also have chewed hard candy, lollipops, etc. I have also opened bottles with my teeth. It was the GERD that destroyed most of my molars, not the abuse.
You should also include bone cancer which affects it as well.
I'm so happy finally got rid of facial hair growth with Dr iyaremoses on RUclips herbs medications and cream
Having parasites in the gut can also cause anemia.
And iron feeds parasites. I think iron deficiency is more about liver health and deficiencies in its cofactors
Just bought iron supplements today because of brittle and grooves on my nails...wish me luck!

Dr.Berg I love your videos. I am so grateful for your work, and the information you keep pushing despite being confronted with 'cancel culture police' and those that are against freedom of information and democracy. I would like to ask you a question. I live in Canada, and see a doctor under a resident practice, I never see the overseeing doctor for the residents. I have anaemia and I have what they call IBS, among other symptoms like a low hemoglobin of 109 (done twice in 2 months).
Which b complex are you taking? Which brand?

Make (11) cups of Kale into a smoothie each day.
See Dr. Berg's older videos for recipes.
Green vegetables are rich in iron.
For reasons why you need (11) cups see Dr. Berg's older videos.
