      Forgot to give context. Ported this reel from IG. Basically the idea is to see if you can spot any actual real world differences between the both. Everybody thinks you NEED to have a Leica lens on a Leica body but that’s not always going to be the case.

      Correct, the thing is professional photographers make money with their lenses, so these companies make money from professionals who earn, and hobby photographers who want some of these gears, so yes they are better, true that it’s not worth the price on paper, but if the access to these lenses and expensive bodies were cheap, then everyone would get it, thus reducing the value a lot.

      Nope, the lens doesn't have much to do with large prints as long as the photos are sharp (which is mostly down to the photographer's skill). The MP count on the camera body is what matters for large prints

    • @ducklord3604
      @ducklord3604 3 месяца назад

      You don't need a good lens for large prints. If the print is larger, people naturally stand further back to see the whole image, meaning unless they are looking at a super close distance (which never happens) then no one can tell the difference. Skill always comes before gear.

    • @liquidhydrogen5012
      @liquidhydrogen5012 3 месяца назад

      @@ducklord3604 I don't think you have much experience printing. Printers can resolve much more detail than your monitor/TV. Your 32 inch 4K monitor is mere 140ppi. Set your printer to 140ppi and result will be laughably blurry. A decent fine art print shops will run a Noritsu on their standard prints. And those thing print at 640ppi. Area wise it is 20 times the MP of the 32 inch monitor. So any defects that are already visible on a screen will be very distracting on the prints. Of course, I don't think people into large prints shoot with Leica range finders. But you will still generally require pro-grade lenses.

    Tbh, if they are not from the same scene, I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference of any 2 lens, especially after post-editing. This does mean that the cheaper lens do not hold you back from crafting great art, but doesn’t mean that the expensive lens are not better.

    I had the 7A 35 f2, some other 35s as well as the Summilux 35 FLE. The 7A optically is very nice but has a lot of pincushion distortion. Of course you don’t notice that in pics of people etc, but you will if there are straight lines in your image. The problem I had with the 7A is like all 7A lenses I’ve used is it focuses way past infinity at the hard stop. It still focused accurately with the rangefinder, but you couldn’t just crank it to the hard stop and think you had infinity. Also of course the build quality and design is not as nice. But if you only have $300 it is a super deal.

    • @samguw
      @samguw  Год назад

      Good point! Yeah I agree on the distortion. I would say even then, it's quite acceptable for the price. QC was also the main issue I had. I had a few copies and all of the were back or front focused. Then again, I've also shot with Leica lenses that were back focused.

    I don't think there is a need to do A/B but the fact is whether I (we) like a photo can be subjected to a myriad of reasons like composition, lighting, color harmony and many more rather than just what is the image. bad lighting and composition with a good lens don't make an image nice, the ability of the photographer and the type of audience can also make the decision very different. so this reel, unfortunately, lose any meaning or at least your intended purpose because I am literally trying to paint on air here
