- Walk, Amble, Pace and Trot in the Dog.
The walk pattern is left rear, left front. right rear, right front. Only one leg moves at a time. Most dogs dislike just walking when moving with intention. When on lead, they start to amble, pace or trot.
Amble is when the rear foot lifts up from the ground slightly sooner the than the same side front foot. The feet are place on the ground together.
The pace is faster and more bouncy. The rear and front feet leave the ground at the same time. It is a two beat gait like the trot.
Trot is when the opposites rear and front legs move together. At full speed all four feet will be off the ground for a fraction of a second.
