This is one of the most thoughtful explorations of Saul Leiter's work that I've seen or read. I do make photographs and I do struggle with, as I put it, making pictures OF something, versus pictures that are ABOUT something. I haven't worked it out at all. I'm not even sure that I know what I mean myself when I talk about photographs that are "about something." I ended up being a bit distracted while I watched this, so I'd like to watch it again, but I appreciate your discussion. It definitely gives me things to think about. Thanks for making this!
So sorry that I didn't reply earlier. I have to say your comment really hits home for me. A friend told me one time that I didn't take picture OF something I took pictures WITH something. That led to several years of exploring what "With something" means. I can only imagine that your "About" is even more full of potential!
