I just started shooting street photography and Saul resonates with me so much. When I started looking up some tips on street photography, I kept hearing "tell a story" or "the moment" but I never wanted to tell a story. I just wanted to share what I saw with the world. Thank you for this video, Brian! Very inspiring.
Thanks Kevin - I'm a photographer first, a 'youtuber' second! I don't know much about fancy editing or post-production so I tend to stick to the simple stuff :-)
No-nonsense, content rich and minimally edited video, a beautiful find in a world of annoying, fast paced but culturally empty channels. This is very nice!
Thanks for your wonderful insights on Paul Leiter. I am drawn to his photography and really enjoy shooting with my 85mm f1.8 lens. He is an inspiration. Thanks also for the so many videos that are helping me immensely in my pursuit of street photography.
Adorable, the first time I saw Saul's work I fell in love with it, great videos you have here, and it’s really appreciated that there is no background music in them. :)
I'm not a street photographer and can't remember if I'd seen Saul Leiter's work before, but I've studied the works of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Fred Herzog, Joel Meyerowitz, Ernst Haas, and Vivian Maier. Leiter's bold use of color and his ability to abstract away the mundane really resonate with and comes naturally to me. He's my new favorite street photographer!
I'm thrilled to have stumbled across this fascinating snapshot of the work of Saul Leiter. I've been photographing through patterned glass (the sort you find in old bathrooms) to turn the mundane into something magical (it's very hit and miss and much more miss than hit) while wantonly breaking the conventional photography rules and it's wonderfully playful and experimental - and often rewarding. I believe my technique to be unique. And I love what I (try to) do. So, thank you, Brian, for giving me a glimpse into Saul Leiter's world.
Well done, your aproach to street is experienced and fresh at a time. SAUL is one of my favorites beside Fan Ho for b&w ! Great Job please continue 😀💯👍
Enjoyed this video. Saul Leiter is my favorite photographer. His work as a painter of abstractions shines through his photos. His work added to my desire to photograph the mundanely beautiful in life. Also a fan of Fred Herzog
Thank you very much - good to have you aboard. Are you in the UK or a friend from overseas? (I’m always interested to know where people are watching from!)
Very enjoyable and informative presentation. Your Leiter tips are eminently applicable to other photographic genres by removing the word "street" from your phraseology. Thank you for producing this video.
Great lesson in street photography! Great lesson in the History of Photography! You don't say All About Saul Leiter, but you say the essential, stimulating our curiosity, our creativity! Congrats!
I haven’t knowingly seen his work, but after seeing this video I will buy the book you mentioned,it’s a style that I would feel comfortable with. Thanks for the video.
Greetings from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I love this! 15 mins is just perfect for a quick overview of a photographer. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Came across your video by chance... and what a delight!!! Love all ten points. They go deep. Soulful. An artful presentation. Let me check out what else you have! Thank you!
Just discovered this channel after going through the "Mastering Street Photography" book (a must buy if you are starting street photography). Really great content and presentation skills...as excellent as the book...rare today having a channel on photography about photography rather than most of the channels out there which are gear oriented. Well done Sir!
Thank you very much for this wonderful introduction to the work of Saul Leiter. The whole presentation is also made with attention to detail and with a good feeling for the artist. Well done, very excellent!
Absolutely amazing discussion. Was not aware of Saul Leiter. His work and vision strongly appeal to me because I have a similar approach to making images but hadn’t really given myself permission to let go and follow my natural vision until now. Thank you Brian. I look forward to spending some time studying the work of Saul Leiter in greater detail.
Many thanks, Robert. Do try to have a look at the book I mentioned - it will give you a much deeper insight into Leiter’s work. I think he’s the perfect example of how street photography can be relaxed and not always ‘in your face’. Thanks for tuning in!
Great again thanks. With a background in painting I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to the greats of photography. Interestingly I always tell my painting students that drawing is about teaching yourself to look and to put yourself in a place where happy accidents might happen.
What an excellent, interesting and informative presentation!
That's too kind, Andrew - thanks very much! :-)
hey Lex Luthor, great video.

No-nonsense, content rich and minimally edited video, a beautiful find in a world of annoying, fast paced but culturally empty channels. This is very nice!
That’s so kind - thank you! I’m trying to keep this channel free of annoying music, editing effects and unboxings!

Excellent series. I love the simplistic of Vivian Maier, but Saul Leiter's abstract eye is a delight.
Thank you! I also love Vivian and I'm sure I'll cover her in a future video.
This is excellent. Thanks for making it.
My pleasure - thanks for tuning in!
Very good exploration Brian. "We often look but don't see" is a big takeaway for me. Thank you.

Im glad you brought up the point of vertical composition. No one ever brings it up in his photos.
I think it was very much part of his style and nice to see more people doing it lately :-)
