I’m sorry you had to go through those experiences. I personally haven’t had to put my customer service hat on yet for my shop but it is still a tiny thing. Even so if anyone did have a problem I would want to know so I could fix it. As someone who has worked in customer service almost my whole life, I know that most people are decent but there are always those few who ruin it for the rest.
That's a great way to think about it! You'd want to know so you could fix it. In the second two instances I spoke about, I think a big problem was they didn't want to admit that anything was wrong at all. In the third one, she FOR SURE didn't want to admit that the products were not up to standard. You have to be able to admit and accept when something is flawed and want to correct it. Unfortunately, but every shop owner has this mind set.
The people who run the crappy small shops are so selfish. They don't consider how their bad practices might impact not only consumers but other shops! I get how it can be scary because when something goes wrong with a small shop, that owner makes the rules and can change or break them and there's really no one else above them (like a manger or corporate office) to reason with. You have to put full faith and trust in that shop owner that they will do right by their customers even if it means admitting fault. There are so many good shops out there to explore and support! We just have to discover them and boost them up!
I’m sorry you’ve gone through all the BS-ery that has ensued… 😔😠 I get what you’re saying, though … one or two bad experiences doesn’t mean that will happen with every shop (small or big alike)
I just hope this starts a dialog. Maybe some communication between people so we all can be more aware and informed and help each other find the good apples and avoid the bad ones!
The product, historically, had been a game changer in the diamond painting space. Not every formula is created equal. There are variations. But generally speaking, there is usually a formula to suit almost everyone. For me, I'm a fan of the OG formulas that were harder and drier. It's what made them special and unique.
If I get a bad attitude from a shop, I’m out. Done, over. Dealbreaker. I am in a position that I could probably consult small businesses, but I have no time for those who like to think they know it all. :)
Good point! There is no perfect in life, and if you feel you've reached perfection, then you have the most work on yourself to do! It's when people stop trying to improve and grow that they shoot themselves in the foot. 🖤💀🖤
I'm never going to live the croc thing down am i?😂😂😂 These things have to be talked about for sure, even if they can be hard conversions to have. Customer service is so important, some customers can be jerks but when a customer is unhappy about a reasonable reason it should try to be fixed. It's fuurrrrrustrating to know that you recommended a shop that you thought was good but then it vanishes into a far off galaxy. So glad there are more honorable spots out there than not.
No. No you are not. Ever. 😀 Thank you for acknowledging how hard these things can be to talk about. Things can get all "meow" like and stay that way for a long time, maybe forever! Customer service is so so important and the idea of not caring at all about it as a shop owner is so foreign to me! Alienating a customer is probably the last thing you want to do because if you do... then your shop will be the last one in the entire galaxy that anyone will want to shop at! That's not good for business now or in the future! I'm eternally grateful when I do find those trustworthy shops. I hope they realize how much we appreciate them!
I wonder if they were either overwhelmed with orders and didn’t have the skills to keep up or just started the business as a lark and thought perhaps it would be a fun way to make money from their hobby. I don’t know what they were thinking and it’s too bad you had to go through this. A frustrating way to have your event marred by this disappointment. I had a terrible experience with a small shop this year but definitely will still try other small shops…and have actually purchased from them with great satisfaction this year. Thanks for the video.
It's really rough when it's a shop I've recommended them they take a 💩. Although i can't know these things will happen, I still feel really bad when they do. 😞
For your last experience, it shows a lack of maturity with the last shop & you definitely should go whatever avenue you need to in order to get your money back. I have had to do that with a small shop for a canvas I never got. I will say for me, I usually try not make too many waves if I not pleased unless I spent a good chunk of money. I chalk it up to “well, I’ll never buy from them again” Also I am one who will get a sour feeling if I see a small shop owner being rude on socials just because someone has a question or has questioned something. Especially if you privately message them & those owners blast that person on socials. We all see you promote small businesses & shops, you are honest with your reviews & these shops/owners even if they are closed, should be grateful because you brought customers to them. You are not wrong with your statements or thoughts in this video, in my opinion. So pink candy hmmmm did you eat it so it wasn’t pinking up your house? Lol
Thank you for your thoughts on this! It's so anxiety inducing to put up videos that I know will hit close to home for some and potentially inflame others. But i really think we as a whole and we as creators need to be able to share information, experiences, and opinions without fear of retribution. We're not helpful to consumers if we're not free to be opinionated or share our experiences. If a shop doesn't like a negative review or opinion, then maybe it's a them issue in which they need to fix on their end. No, I didn't eat the candy.... yet. I've been ill lately. 🤒 i stuffed it in the back of a dark drawer and covered it with sage.
When a bad small shop experience happens it has a double edged effect. It makes the buyer wary of other small shops and could put them off from supporting other smaller businesses, which in turn impacts on smaller businesses being able to attract new customers and their ability to grow. Personally I will look into reviews to see what feedback the shop is getting and how they deal with it. If anything feels suss or hinky, I tend to trust my gut and leave well alone. But there is always a chance that despite that you can fall foul of poor product quality or customer service. Then again…….the same can happen with larger shops. Which reminds me of recent news here in the UK where people are receiving packages from a larger ‘sell all’ international shop containing live scorpions 🦂 😮……now that definitely makes me think twice about placing an order. I love a freebie along with the best of them, but I’ll give them a miss for a little while 😂
The third example was a shop with good reviews and reputation in the community. But over time, it fell wayward and started sending out lower and lower quality products for the same price as the higher quality products it once sold. Then the customer service declined, too. It's really sad to see. No thank you. I'll pass on the scorpions lol
My bf and his friend run the same type of business. His friend is very outspoken. I have told my bf as a business onr/rep, whatever... you can't afford to have a public opinion about anything. Be nice. Be polite. Move on. That's it. Your income and survival is totally based on what people think about you. Like it or not, its true.
Facts. And too often I think small shop owners don't realize just how impactful their personal actions and behavior impacts their business regardless of whether they think it should or not. You have to put your best (but still authentic) you forward.
I hear this a lot in comments, but since I don't have this hurdle, I honestly don't know: Are there not as many/ any small shops for diamond painting outside the US? I'm not being a booboo hole, I'm genuinely inquiring. I know that shipping costs suck. I was going to send Alien putty to someone in the UK and the shipping cost more than the tin! Like what?! I also was going to ship a canvas to someone in Canada and they wanted $60 and if I were to ship it to the US it was $18? ROBBERY! I can see why shops can't afford to send products abroad. It's just as costly for us individuals! Could you imagine sending packages to the States?! I have to assume it's a costly to ship out as it is in! But I do know that there are several small shops i love that are in Canada! Bee's Crafty Corner and ImagiCraftsByCindy are 2 off the top of my head! I would love to see more foreign based channels in the diamond painting space that showcase shops that ship to other countries or are based in those other countries!
@@Mushmellow79 Not as many small shops. If I chose to pay extra ($ conversion on cost of items and shipping...plus duties) it makes it more expensive upfront and to return if there is a problem. Some very well liked small shops within their own country at times have shady practises and send some less desirable products to international customers knowing this if sent at all. I have been burnt twice...first time I did not do my homework..so now I am very cautious.
Since you used Walmart as an example.. If you paid for walmart to get your groceries ready, or deliver them and they said " well. Heres your bread, sorry we didn't feel like giving you the rest of the sandwich materials. Be happy you got the bread at least." And they kept your money... Walmart would close within the month. That's just basic ABC math and business. If a shop, store, business cannot give what customers ordered they don't deserve the privilege of being a shop/store/business. As a sick person, i know life changes from am to pm. But again, that's the owners responsibility to have a backup plan. If you can't handle sickness plus a business, the business needs to go.
Well said. I know many a shop owner who have illnesses, families, other businesses, etc, who you'd never know there were problems on the personal front because they septate that from the business front. While I sympathize with people on a variety of personal problems, it should never impact the business aspect and if it does then, as you said, the business needs to go. Thanks for responding and adding your perspective to the conversation! 🖤💀🖤

You can put a claim with your credit card company….
I used paypal and did in fact submit myself to the mercy of the paypal gods in the matter. We'll see how it turns out.
