    Actually, you can’t even look at a Pinlock insert without it getting scratches and fingerprints.

    I work in a motorcycle store. We had a pinlock shield fail on a customer's Nolan N104. Water got between the helmet visor and the pinlock itself, so we decided to separate them in order to clean the affair and reinstall the pinlock. Unfortunately, the silicon bead around the edge of the pinlock started moving at the slightest tug and it became a near-impossible job to re-seat it correctly on the pinlock. I would imagine that a harsher treatment (like rubbing against it repeatedly with a sponge) could yield similar results.
    Also, a word of caution for those living in areas with hard tap water: mineral deposits will be apparent on your pinlock after it dries up, so consider rinsing it with demineralised water, the kind that you can get cheaply from a car parts store.

      I was just coming in here to ask about water spots.
      This is the ticket! Thanks for the reminder! I just moved here and keep forgetting about the affects of hard water.

    I followed this video advice exactly and now have a scratched pinlock as the soft side of the sponge was still too harsh, clearly....... cannot afford a new one however, so am now stuck with a scratched pinlock!!

      yes, I think this method is not good for a delicate surface; I think it is better to use a new specific microfibre cloth and not a sponge...

    Lol the moment i use the softest possible cloth to wash the visor, it scratches like crazy. Shoei NL told me you should only RINSE it with water because it will certainly scratch otherwise. Therefore: don't use this method!

    Abrasive sponge. I suggest hand wash then rinse with water and air dry

    I have never successfully cleaned one of these. Get them, they get dirty, wash with utmost care, reinstall, notice the endless scratches, into the trash. First one I got years ago, managed to get a fingerprint on the inside during initial install. Tried to clean that off - was done before ever using it. Seems like it could be made to be somewhat scratch resistant. Sponge seems crazy but I’ll try it. Nothing else I have tried works.

    DO NOT USE SOAP OF ANY KIND .. just use water and a micro fibre cloth

    Hi. I have a question. I washed my Pinlock this evening, but I rinsed it first, then I put a small squirt of soap on my wet hands, ribbed then together. Then used just my hands to wash the visit on both sides. Our was only a small amount of soap, but definitely more than you used. Could this hurt it? I took some time to rinse it well though and set it out to dry on the counter. What do you say?

    I have a XR1100. After doing this procedure, the pin lock visor is not working the way it should anymore... It gets foggy as any other normal visor!!! 😢Very disappointed !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Just use a visor wipe😎

  • @stavrosdra
    @stavrosdra 3 года назад +2

    That’s so irresponsible. You will surely get scratches. Suggest not to do that way. Spray a small amount of distilled water and wipe it in one direction with a microfiber cloth. No pressing, gently wiping.

    How not to clean a pinlock! From Shoei too!? 😬 A pinlock works by absorbing moisture so doing this renders it useless.

  • @Thunderous71
    @Thunderous71 7 лет назад +7

    This is bad advice as the pinlock is made of a soft plastic that very easily scratches. Washing up liquid as show in this video contains salt and WILL scratch the pinlock!

    Bullshit I cleaned my pin lock visor with a cotton cloth and it scratched up needed to buy a new one. I would love to see the condition of that pin lock after it dry. Don't do this to your visor you will funk it up!

      same here. real fine scuffs/scratches all over the pinlock lens using an eyeglasses cleaning cloth. ridiculous. i absolutely hate pinlock.

      Same thing happened to me, no matter how soft the cloth I tried wiping with scratches were made. Oh well, will buy a new one and just avoid washing it.

      Use the cloth you use for cleaning your sun glasses just dont put any pressure on it. Just wipe very lightly. And if its really dirty just rinse it and dont dry it with anything let it dry by itself shake off the extra water as much as you can.

    This method doesn't work, just destroyed my new pinlock insert with scratches following this procedure just trying to clean it, so into the bin. Seems to be a disposable item, complete bollocks.
