Put a new battery in your smoke detector. I thought it was mine but it's in your video, ha ha. :)
It's going to be a new setup guide 😉
Looks like a fantastic system, It's great it comes with a Working keyboard as back in the day I remember That we played most games on the Micros On the keyboard rather than with a joystick, Have fun with it mate , Such a wonderful birthday present from your parents Jamie
Hey there, it really is. C64 pretty much always supported joysticks. British micros such as the Beeb was mainly keyboard only but you could buy joysticks which weren't 9 pin. Of course the zx spectrum 16/48k had a Kempston expansion to plug joysticks into. I totally reccomend this maxi. Its superb.
I bought and returned it.
The ultimate 64 is better for the money
It costs ultimate money that's the issue.
By the way, the c64 mini can now use the Maxi tool under 1.6 firmware. No excuse not to upgrade your games. I can confirm it works, as I have both 64 models and upgraded the games with the tool, using a PC, on both the maxi and mini, using the same usb stick.
PS. My publishing days also has a video somewhere- Flimsoft.
Oh man, now I need to have that.
Highly recommended if you love the C64. Have you checked Adding games to the carousel?

watched this video with headphones, and 100% checked my smoke detector nearby to check the battery.
Haha. Yup. Sorry about that. That issue went a couple of weeks back now.
Yup... did the same thing. I also was on headphones and kept asking my 10 year old son watching TV next to me what was beeping. Then when to stand under the smoke detector for a couple of minutes. Took me another cycle of this before I realized it was in the video!
@sylvainleclerc4801 haha
I liked the Atari controller more better gotten the usb adapter for it but when I plug it in too my maxi it turns off automatically I dont seem why

The fly took a 💩 on top of the, computer mode selection menu!
I wouldn't go that far!
Can the keys be removed from that keyboard.?..say i wanted to use the maxi keys on my real c64c for example....possible.?
No idea sorry. I have never tried. I'd imagine they were very different. Original C64 had springs in.
Can you use an 8 bit do controller with the c64 maxi?
Hey. Not that I know of as I don't own one.
Thanks! What is your TV/monitor and what size ?
Hey. That's just a tester. It's an Alba. 21"
I have a new, sealed The Vic20 Maxi - the limited version of Retro Games version of the TheC64 that I want to sell. I have TheC64 already and want to sell it. Thinking about selling it on eBay.
Hopefully you will sell it soon.
Opps! Smoke alarm!!
Yup. Sorted that out months back.
@@JustJamie1983 Its a bit of a Meme these days when you hear a smoke alarm in the background 🙂
@radioweebdx7680 ah right. No idea to be honest.
Shame this model of The C64 mini isn't easy to acquire in the States.
Hey. That's seems to be the situation. No idea why.
Are they still manufacturing these? I live in Canada and I have not located any reseller in the US or Canada. You Tube has a lot of review videos but most date from 2 or 3 years back. I used to code on a C64 in my teens and want to introduce my kids to coding!
Can you not order from Amazon UK?
@@JustJamie1983 No unfortunately not. I worked with NATS in the UK on and off from 2002 to 2011 so I have some contacts/friends there. I just sent them a request to drop ship one to me.
Good thinking.
Joystick/ joypad support is poor on the c64. The Amiga mini has much better joypad support than the maxi. My PS4 clone joypad worked out the box on the Amiga mini, but no response on the c64 maxi. In future firmwares I’d like to see better compatibility for sure. I think it can have better games on the carousel too. For example, there’s no Arkanoid, commando, Manic Miner, Caudron 2, Green beret, scooby doo, terra cresta, all great games. However, the 64 tool is a godsend on Windows, as you can change the games. It’s not on Mac just now.
Ah it's not too bad on the 64.
got one these and mini awesome machines :)
Absolutely. The Maxi has a very authentic feel to it. Highly reccomend this to C64 fans
@@JustJamie1983 loving the beep beep lol like watching road runner :)
Dude just go to a nail salon and use moisturizer.
How is this relevant? If you want finger fetishism please visit elsewhere. This is about Commodore 64.
This consol sucks deep down in hell i regret throwing money out on buying one.
It doesent remember attatched cartrigdes and disk. Setting this thing up is a jungle of weird abriviations and codes and files you must put on the USBdrive - almost like learning a new small programming language. as for my c64 maxi i threw it in the trash its close to worthless if you're expecting to be working on an old time C64 because of the unbelieveable amount of settings that must be set in complicated ways. This thing is anything but userfriendly. Very very disapointed that we have to study a bloody manual just to do simple things like change joystickport or remember which cartridge is inserted. Total crap might aswell just stick to the VICE emlator or get a real 64 this is FAR from a real c64 let me tell you
The C64 is a computer*
I'd say either you're doing it wrong or your expectations were..... Different
Had my c64 maxi for 3 years and it’s never failed once
program on it, play games it’s absolutely brilliant
It's based on vice too 😀
If you have a problem with the game in wrong joystick configuration rename your game, for example: Bombjack_j1.d81. You can also change the config in the Maxi Tool.
