I must say that we all have our favourite ways of learning. I rarely listen and read at the same time. I may listen once, get confused, then read the text, save words, review words, and then listen again more than once.
While there are no transcripts, the COPE podcasts are a good source of audio on current events in Spain. I would search the Internet and also check out LingQ for Spanish, not only in the Library, but also go to Import and you will find a list of resources with links to relevants sites.
Lots of good information discussed, nice to hear talk about how and why learn another language. As a teacher of English in Thailand, it's not easy to get the ear of any educator here to think about how to learn English; what are the resources available, what are the various strategie that could be imployed, etc They just like to follow the book and have everyone "learn" by rote, follow the script, so to say. Thanks for this video Steve. Will continue to watch your other videos.
A few months is not a very long period of time. Believe in yourself and in the process. With time the brain gets better at picking up the new language.
Wau 나의 영웅들! You all Steve , Luca and Richard are my Super-heroes. I simply admire all of you and addtionally pay high tribute to your guys contiribution to expanding the horizon of Polyglot acceptance. Personally i was heavily influnced by your guys performance and service to the public as a visionary of muti-language speaking personality. it was a great boost and motivation to me as well. great thanks. Love you all. Look forward to meeting you in Fukuoka, Japan. 감사합니다 Korea , Simon Park 박시사
Mr. Lingosteve, I stumbled upon you videos on RUclips joined LinQ and have very much enjoyed both. Thank you . I speak Spanish and am now working on Turkish. I am lucky enough to know a turkish girl whom I Skype with regularly . We help each other w English and Turkish , learning words and being able to use them immediately and with confidence by practicing a with her has catapulted my learning forward . Learning how to learn ! Thanks
I can't say the same about you, Benny. With you I can disagree about many things and so be it!. Yet I am most impressed by your accomplishments, energy and enthusiasm. The important thing is not to agree, but to get out and do it! You are a doer! In particular, the Skype Me Maybe international language kaleidoscope was a prime example. Good on you. Now when are you going to fix your pronunciation in English?
Someone suggested that since the words bi-, tri- and quadri-lingual exist, you have to shoot for 5 to get this title. I prefer the term Linguist for someone who speaks more than one language, but that is another discussion.:)
I agree is not a rule that you have to rely on a native to learn English. I wouldn't have any problem in learning English from, let's say, Luca. Even if he is not a native, he knows the language very well and most important he knows what it is like going through the process of learning a language and I think he would be a better guide even than many native speakers. And if he knows the language of the pupil I see no problem in once in a while using it to tackle or "take a shortcut in some cases
So I learned English 2,5 years I reached a2-b1 level I speak and uderstand better than I write!THANK THEM LUCA and KAUFMAN!Listening and reading at the same time and transtlations!
Maybe we could give this talk together haha :P "How to transition from your electronic engineering degree to working with languages" - By Luca and Benny
Here in Thailand, I've found that listening is my biggest problem. I can tell people somewhat intelligibly what I want to express (simple vocab, mind you), when they respond it can be damn hard to understand. Speed, accents, unfamiliar vocab, unfamiliar speech conventions, etc. I need to work on my listening!
I agree, the echo from Steve's voice (on Luca's Mike, I think) was very distracting. But I accept that these recorded video conferences are an emerging medium. There are some tech & etiquette teething problems that need to be worked thru. Maybe the participants (or the software) should have a way to soundcheck before going live. I recall using VERY expensive video conference systems in the 90s which used a short checklist before our business meeting would started. Thanks for the video, guys.
lol, yes we will always disagree on many things I'm sure ;) Well said that the important thing isn't to agree. I think too many people get bogged down with trying to see who is "right" that they lose sight of their own story, and their own need to experiment. Like was said in this video, it's like comparing apples and oranges. And don't worry, I'll make enough viral videos soon that my Irish accent will take over RUclips, and it will become the new standard for international English :D
Steve, I was recently on an Air Canada flight and noticed in their "enroute" magazine (pg 120) an article about "linguistic training" for the in-flight crew. Basically it talks about their language training so that flights can have more than just French & English. I thought their use of the word "lingustics" was interesting because it further clarifies how the is used and its meaning in the English language.
luca was the first of these polyglots i came across but they are all incredible, i hope to be as good as them, Question what is a good number of languages to know to get the title polyglot? English(USA Mother tongue) Spanish(Mother tongue+5 years of formal study) French and Japanese (have taken courses at the University level), Portuguese and Italian (Self Study, use college textbooks+online resources) Just started looking into Russian and German, but havent really started them.
The one thing that helps me stay motivted is interested content. I'm interested in politics, finance. Which websites have content where I can listen and read spanish newspapers and magazines.
Hello. Steve, I heard you say there was going to be another conference after the one in Budapest. You said North America, right? Would you happen to know where it will be?
Hello. Have anybody caught what Luca mentioned about studying german? I mean he talked about one source where you can find lots of reading and listening etc. Thank you! Lingq user :)
You have to listen alot and then eventually you will get used to it. I find that listening to lots of japanese has helped my japanese comprehension alot.
Yeah, understanding is very important.I started to learn Mandarin few months ago and what frustrates me is that i have big problem to understand a native speaker although he uses only words which i already know.
Yeah the echo is slightly annoying. Good vid though. Having started learning Italian a little over 2 months ago seeing what you (plural) have achieved is definitely inspiring rather than intimidating. I sometimes think I should spend less time watching people talk about learning languages and more time actually doing it, but I have picked up a lot of useful, if at times conflicting advice.
Me too I had very bad experiences while English learning! The people are very envious if you speak many languages!Nobody wanted to speak with me in English only for money!Actually I searched a woman to speak !They are all very negativ they don´t know how much I had to learn for reaching this level!
I really enjoy their good humour, their modesty, and their positive attitude.
I must say that we all have our favourite ways of learning. I rarely listen and read at the same time. I may listen once, get confused, then read the text, save words, review words, and then listen again more than once.
Thanks for letting me know, I appreciate it.

Hi Steve! What software do you use to make videos like this with three different participants?
The one thing that helps me stay motivted is interested content. I'm interested in politics, finance. Which websites have content where I can listen and read spanish newspapers and magazines.

Luca, how did you transition from having an electronic engineering degree to working with languages? Can you make a video about this?
I'd love to go to one of those conferences just to see if anyone there studies Finnish.
Where does one find the schedule for upcoming conferences? I'd like to attend one of them.
Yeah, understanding is very important.I started to learn Mandarin few months ago and what frustrates me is that i have big problem to understand a native speaker although he uses only words which i already know.
I went to ARD's website and although there are lots of videos, none of them is subtitled as Luca said. Non ho capito, amico!
lack microphones :(
During the interview Luca mentioned incredible side for reading may be Please help me what is name of that side he mentioned. Thanks
when i hear a polyglot it makes me beliave that i too can learn, because i can see that its possible
Me too they are great!

Wow Love what Luca said =)
Where can I see these presentations?
Guys, could you tell me an average time needed to learn each level? (Beginner, intermediate, and advanced)
I have yet to hear a single sentence come out of Luca's or Richard's mouth that I disagree with ;)
What can I say 3 Grand Polyglots with the practical subject, and a huge table of the desert to choose what interested you. Thank you all.
for me its motivating
Great Robert!!! Look forward to speak with you on May on Skype to arrange the hotel !!! =)

What Luca said is true. Polyglots are not extraterrestrials!
Please use headphones, echo is kinda annoyin' :-/
Thumbs up if you would support an NGO for better lighting for Luca and Richard lol
I think the if the Brain get used to learning you have to learn it is habit! Like drugs! When I miss one day I ´m very nervous!
Sorry, don't know.
