4. Reading books which make you interesting or seeing films
Thank you lmao

You saved my time.Thank you so much
You are saving lives.
Lydia is completely right. I'm recently venturing into the polyglot life and studying my fourth language. I taught myself Japanese, never had a teacher and now I can have conversations and read novels. We are not especially geniuses or anything like that at all -- we are just passionate and we love doing it as a hobby!
I am an English teacher (ha) but I tell all my students to treat me as a SUPPLEMENT, and come to class to ask me questions and go over some things together.
They need to do the work on their own.
Completely right about teaching not being effective -- we are not magicians!
I totaly agree with you. I cannot teach someone any language, I can only make him learn by himself. I am a teacher too, German 🙂
I am also a teacher and i cannot stress out how important it is to also learn by yourself and treat the teacher as a supplement and not like a magician!
I love how she says, I dont believe anyone can be TAUGHT...this is true for almost all subjects...very inspiring
That’s so true, her first point. There’s no such thing as someone teaching you. YOU TEACH YOURSELF. If you attend classes they merely help you...
I like her , she's so smart !!
Yeah she is!
I agree
She looks like Claire Danes from Homeland.
THIS JUST BLEW MY MIND THERE WAS SO MANY THINGS I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT UNTIL I WATCHED THIS VIDEO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING IT!!!! MAY GOD BLESS YOU BOTH
Yes, of course I'm practice my listening and my pronunciation every day. I listen to audio with video and at the same time I listen and repeat in order to improve my listening, speaking skills and learn new vocabulary. I practice from house. I use an audiobook free in order to improve my reading and writing skills. In my opinion it's very important to practice a language using whole skills togather.
Sounds like you're doing a good job then!
Piedad Loren Serrano can we talk please we can help each other wait your reply
Recently I've met Lydia on RUclips and now I literally admire her brain! What Lydia says is exactly what does work for me in learning English 200%! I would love to learn French, Spanish, German, Italian at least. You both are cool, guys!
Wow! What lovely conversation between Daniel and Lydia - Oh God! Bless them forever!!!
Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴 I was fond of listening to it🤩
Many thanks 💯
This is true of all learning !!!! I am so glad to hear you guys say this. All any teacher can do is inspire others to want to learn whatever it is by themselves. Love listening to your various languages!
i liked her voice
My biggest struggle is learning words and recognizing them in a sentence. Like I can memorize maybe 50 words a day but when they're spoken in a sentence they just glide by unnoticed and then I just forget them after like a week
You have to learn stuff in context or it won’t stick
Try not to study many words by heart. Think in english to speak english💪
Very good video. Thanks for posting.
this video is pure gold. Thanks guys. I am looking up for you!
Thanks so much,I am watching this after 3 years!!! Both of you are super speakers!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks ;-)
Thanks for your interview and suggestions.
Thank you very much, for informing us the techniques of learning languages.
Thank you to both of you for the great learning tips. They should help a lot.
Thanks Daniel. That´s great!
Great advice! I've only got so far as listening to No. 2, but I paused to say that when I first moved to France in 2000, I didn't have the patience to read anything in French, but I started reading the first Harry Potter book in French, and it was *perfect* because I got so absorbed it in that I couldn't put it down. The words I didn't know I would underline, and then look them up at the end of the chapter (because I didn't want to stop to look them up while I was reading). I ended up reading all the Harry Potter books in French (except for the last one, because it came out when I was back in the States, and I couldn't wait for the translation to come out in French). The Potter books are great because the early ones are simple, and they became increasingly more difficult as they go along. If you persevere, your competence will keep pace with the books!
Excelente, a really great conversation
Great video with lots of great info. Thanks!
Thanks. This polyglot thing is so amazing. It changed my life so much
Excelent interview dear Daniel. Thanks for share it!!!!!
These secrets of learning any language is really really PRACTICAL and USEFUL ❤❤❤ Thanks a lot
Excellent Tips!
I alwyas enjoy watching Lydia's videos :)
Thank you for practical advice in learning languages
Nice! Thanks to the author of the channel! The problem with many people is that they want to take a "magic pill" or get "secret knowledge" and immediately have skills and abilities. However, the truth of life is that knowledge, skills, and abilities do not come by themselves. You can't learn a foreign language without doing anything, without wasting your time and effort, just like you can't learn to ride a bike lying on a comfy couch, listening to lectures and watching videos about "modern methods of learning" on a bike. To really learn something, you have to really practice every day. You're going to fall down while you're learning, and you're going to get bumps - that's normal! The ups and downs of learning are an integral part of our lives. Motivation from success and depression from failure will always be your study companions. However, every student has problems in his or her studies that he or she lacks the knowledge to solve. It can be: poor memorization of words; no progress in language learning; the student can speak, but does not understand speech by ear; misunderstanding of grammar; incorrect pronunciation, etc. Agree that a problem you don't know how to solve is very demotivating. In order to find the answer to our question we have to spend a lot of time to read videos, articles and books by polyglots. In today's world, we have to solve problems as quickly as possible. I don't have time to study and analyze a huge amount of information. My goal is to master the basic knowledge of a foreign language as quickly as possible and already start earning money effectively in the international arena. I settled on the practical guide by Yuriy Ivantsiv " Polyglot's Notes: practical tips for learning foreign language". This book is always in my bag. If I have a problem while learning a language, I quickly find the answer in this book. There are many different techniques and tips for learning a foreign language in Polyglot Notes. I have made my own individual schedule and plan for language learning. Now I know what I am going to study, how I am going to study, when I am going to study and what results I am going to achieve. No problem could stop me! With an effective language learning plan my professional skills are more and more in demand internationally every day. Friends, don't stop there! Everyone has talents that millions of people around the world need! Learn the language and make your ideas and dreams come true! Thanks to the author of the channel for the informative and useful video! Your videos motivate me.
Wonderful advices.

xie xie ni , ni shou hen hao !! Muchos grasias ! hasta la vista !!

Thanks Nat! Lydia was brilliant, I think this video is one of the best things I've ever done. (And it's all because of her...)
I think so too!
Thank you very much for this video, I am learning English by myself, I can read and understand the language, I hope to speak well soon. Thank you very much for sharing your tips. Greetings! 👍
She is lovely. Great tips
Entendí bastante. My listening has improved a lot.
Sign language 🤟 that’s awesome 👏 Maybe I want to learn that, too. Also, her tipps are gorgeous 🥰I like the one about having fun. Actually, that’s what I do: I use such a lot of different methods and I don’t ever feel disappointed making mistakes, but I’m very happy about every new word and insight and experience 🧘♀️
Good video!! Saludos desde Colombia
Oh God !!
Thanks so much for the secrets, learning with school methods is boring and when you learn by yourself is fun
Welcome to Colombia. You are good teachers.
Very nice video. I wish you a good luck in your Language Mentoring. Very nice language learning method.
dobré rady, skvělý rozhovor, díky :)
Good advice, great conversation, thank you. - is this good translation? Is it Slovakian? I'm Pole and I speak a little bit russian, and I think I do understand You. Am i right?
michał xyz it's actually in Czech, but yes, you got it right
Hello dear teacher Daniel, thank you very much for this video :) I like so much your pieces of advice :)
It's not a question of being taught... I believe a language teacher is a guide and a coach and a mentor. The teacher can facilitate access to methods, tools, strategies. A teacher can teach you HOW to learn. I am an ESL teacher and as years go by I realize this more and more.
Lydiaaaa, you inspire meeeee I love youuuuuuuuu
Woooo I like so much the webconference in English, I'm from Colombia :) thank you very much, regards :)

I know English Hindi Gujarati Marathi French Russian Japanese Telugu Malayalam Spanish Italian German
And I'm a self learner like all or most polyglots
awesome video, thanks so much. I am a bilingual, tried to learn French a few years ago, then stop instead to improve my English language
I speak about 2 1/2 languages. I'm happy I do. I'm learning Swahili too.
After having learned a Romance language I thought Swahili would just not "go" or work. It does! I will be a missionary in several countries.
Enjoy listening to her.
Saludos desde Colombia.
Gracias por gustar de nuestros pais
it is very good tricks , I want to learnd english and french because I like to listen to it Ispeak spanish and I start my english classes so I liked your videos
Greeting from Colombia. I am learning English
Really, you are extremely fantastic
I guess with the correct methodology, acquiring your target language(s) with a native speaker tutor definitely helps. I learned Spanish & Brazilian Portuguese with TPRS tutors, through storytelling and lots & lots of arts & illustrations :)
LYDIA I REMEMBER YOUR ADVISES EVERY DAY.
Yes! Now I’m studying Dutch my 4th language, once I’m fluent in Dutch/Nederlands then I want to learn France or Spanish language too☺️
you were in el valle de san lorenzo i can see the guaza mountain, enjoy it!!!!!
Nice place :-)
I like you, Daniel. Great work - maybe one day we meet! I love languages as well!
When I read it in English I used the shadowing method (I am German). But the Spanish pronunciation is closer to the written word. I may start doing that when all the books are through though.
I used duolingo to pick up my school Spanish after not having used it for five years. After a month I was comfortable reading Harry Potter and stoped doing Spanish on duo, switching it for Russian. Now, 117 days after starting duo, I feel conversational in Spanish. My Russian skills is at around 4% on their way to conversational, with 45 of the necessary 1100h.
Si alguna vez quieres practicar español mi Facebook es Arthur Valar Díaz and may be we can practice our English regard👍👍👍
Que padre estas Lydia!
Really interesting. After three months in a half studying every single day, I was able to understand lots of parts of this video. I'm improving. I'm on the right way. Keep studying, guys.
I'm curious. do you have a routine to study or something? what is your method?
I'd like to ask something... What do you think about see
films and videos in VO with subtittles in Spanish? Thanks for this conversation to both!!
im currently 16 and and almost conversationally fluent in spanish from school/self study/playing online games w/ spanish speakers. But I moved and I live in Japan now and am starting to learn and speak japanese more than I do spanish. I wish to become trilingual since im only going to live in japan for 1 year, but what are some methods to help me study japanese while keeping up with spanish?
What do you not know ? You have to use your spanish as well as japan language ...
salutes from Mexico
I learned 1 word in a year 😁
hahaha....you made my day...I can't stop laughing.
😂
😂
🤣start doing it in a day at oneday you will be a champion of langauge 🤗
What word?
what she said about repetition while reading is totally true. I learned english the same way although via fanfictions. If books are too difficult at the beginning i suggest fanfictions (HP for example) which usually aren't written in an overly complicated way so they are easier to understand ^^
Perhaps also
1)Bi lingual comics and graphic novels, like the numerous
volumes of Asterix, from France
2) videos of various topics with speech
in target languages, with subtitles in
target and native languages.
Mr.Daniel you really lucky you met Lydia and having an interesting conversation with here ...LOL...
best regards
isn't Gold List basically SRS just with a longer span of time between repeated studying of vocab?
If not, would simply changing Anki settings to run out about two weeks before repeating cards work to mimic Gold List?
Amazing!!!!! Both of you. He disfrutado mucho vuestra conversa y consejos. Thanks a lot
Wow! Congratulations!🙋🏻♀️🇦🇷
you said you don't like teachers..
But what about grammar? I think it's very important.
Realejos,
Tenerife,
Spain.
Hey folks! If ye're still here, maybe call to Laguna university tomorrow evening, where there'll be a wee conference and show of the Hierro island version of Canary Whistle Language.
How can I post the poster for it on here?
I would like to know if you can make a video for all the children and young people waiting to move they knew new country ... I mean I see a new york for adopting adoptive parents and they have helped me a lot with your videos, there is the possibility of that there is a dedicated one to girls and young people like me?
I hope that answer, I hope not to ask much
Love Lydia... Respectfully ... if you are going to film outdoors get a microphone with a windshield .. not expensive , makes big difference ...
she has an amazing accent in spanish omg
Lydia is superior woman 😮
Debe ser genial el vídeo. Digo.
I have an interest in learning Spanish. Years ago I purchased the Berlitz Tapes for learning Spanish. My disapoinment began right from the gate as the speakers must have been a Klingons as they SPOKE AT HYPER WORP-SPEED. E-FREAKING-GAD !!!😭😱😭!!!
So It’s ok not to fully understand the texts in a novel of a different language? I’ve heard so many people say it’s not efficient
I still have a question, I have been progressing in learning French and have enough vocabulary and grammar down to understand a fair amount. I've also been using some online programs to test and track my progress and do well with them, so I know I should be able to engage in basic conversation using French, but I can't. I'm fine conversing with an automated program on my laptop, but as soon as I'm supposed to talk to another person I get extremely worried that I'll mess up or make a mistake to the point where I feel like I've forgotten every French word I ever learned in my life. What would be the best way to deal with that?
I'm very fond of languages, I'm Brazilian I speak Portuguese, of course, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and some Esperanto. It was great to listen to you both speaking, I've noticed a mistake when the pretty girl spoke, she said " much "MORE" easier, but that's ok everybody makes mistakes. I've really loved listening to you both! Next language I'll learn is Russian then others like Dutch Arabic, and so on!
Are you sure that "much more easier" is a mistake?
