Now my heart and soul are sick with the art and look of boredom! I'd risk it all just to be that foolish and special again! That Album carried my heart, protected my soul, gave ideas too; my mind and unleashed me a wolf upon those carful and practical sheep lost in having hate and begging for love!
A beautiful post, Joe...& I enjoyed it so much that I read it 4 or 5 times in a row! And I still recall purchasing "Disintegration" on vinyl the day after it was released down here in Australia, back when I was just 15...& I too pine for those days, on so many levels, as both the world & being my age now suck in comparison!!
The first time I heard the Cure back in the Eighties I remember thinking Robert Smiths Voice is the standout element. I thought what a strange Vocal he has. It was offputting at first! Then I got used to it and saw the Cure in Orange the concert I think it was in Nice France. Then I was sold! I thought what a diverse band and they had some great hits, some show tunes and then some Goth type songs that were good! My friend who turned me on to them initially said no way should a band this strange be this popular. But they were and they made it to the big time despite some of their songs sounding like dirges! Amazing! I still think Robert Smith is the Cure. He does all the singing and wrote all the songs so he is the main guy. Without him you have a group of sidemen who would be lost. During one intimate club show, they were all sitting Down before the show and they were bringing Smith all these drinks! I thought that’s really dumb! Get your lead singer the guy who signs your checks and butters your bread sloshed before the gig so that he can barely stand or sing. He’s the only guy who can sing the songs and if he can’t the gig is done. I would not be playing games with my meal ticket like that! But that’s me! Maybe they wanted to loosen him up a little before the show and get his nerves calmed down. Okay, a couple of drinks is alright but don’t kill the goose that lays the Golden Eggs! You Dunderheads! I would definitely protect Robert Smith and not let any one or anything impede his ability to sing and perform his songs. He is the Star player and main guy! Luckily he has managed to keep going after 30 years now! But the end is in sight. I don’t see them going on too much longer. Its okay with me because I saw them live and it was good so I have no regrets about the Cure! They’ve had a great career!
bad interviewer... he should be ,more positive in questions. Robert does not want to think in ending the band never. He wants to keep the ball rolling playing all his songs.
