got my masters degree just yesterday, have no job 😅 just spent last of my money on a ticket for your concert and let me tell you something : dont regret a thing 😁 cant wait for the concert though 😍😍😍
I just finished teaching a student an hour ago and I was trying to get this very point across - brilliant!! I love all of your videos! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the tip! great exercise to visualise the hold and decompose the movements, especially when you're a leftie :) and a great excuse to get painting too!
Interesting video. I will think of that when playing...just did my initial violin test 🙄. Also mama Chen's paintings are beautiful..I was drawn in by them.
Hay Ray, I'm a Classical Music critic in Hong Kong, I knew that, you're going to have a Violin Recital in Macao on Their Macao International Music Festival 2016🎉🎉🎉🎊 I'm planning to come to your Recital as I will book a critic articles platform with my arts magazine in Hong Kong
Oh classic Ray with his dad's jokes! Btw I thought about this technic but didn't knew it was a thing so I didn't proceed to continue, I'm going to try! Thanks Ray 😌😎
I don't play, but great way to illustrate it. I saw you at the Menuhin Final at Royal Festival Hall, haven't yet seen you play live but it's on the cards!
super useful tip but at 2:01 the forearm with the brush goes downward but the video where there is the violin goes in an upward direction so it can be confusing a bit
Are you saying when the bow changes direction the weight must be taken off your arm and then you hand and then the stick. So releasing weight in this order makes it smooth. I heard the fingers need to be like a series of springs. Interesting to use the painting analogy. Also how we hold a pen as we write. I have students try to sign their name when holding a pen in a fist position. 👊 The writing then has little control.
I am way behind and just recently ‘discovered” Ray Chen and watched this clip. I am wondering if Ray used the RUclips translation and got all of this…好提琴家您好!您可知陳先生雖然中文發音很標凖但是閱讀有限?而且他用拿筆當比例,和年齡好像不太相關吧!
Ray, if your Mum sells, or ever thinks about selling her paintings, would you mind very much letting us know please? I saw two that would look great in my living room!!! NOT kidding!!! J

Thanks for the tip! great exercise to visualise the hold and decompose the movements, especially when you're a leftie :) and a great excuse to get painting too!
Nice action! And just blessing people by a short visit from your world to ours bringing in the fundamental - 'art' of music.

Me seeing Mr. Chen holding a paint brush as if it were a pen:
SACRILEGIOUS brush holding!

super useful tip but at 2:01 the forearm with the brush goes downward but the video where there is the violin goes in an upward direction so it can be confusing a bit
Good work
I can tell I'm still going to f*ck up bow changes BUT super helpful, thanks!
Awesome

When will you come and play in Hong Kong ?

What's the name of the piece playing in the background?
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (Op. 64) Movement 2 I think
did sound like mendelssohn, but im not sure abt the upbeat music
do you know frank fodor? he says that he's inthe same school as him. I'm his student.
If you have stiff joints, forget about smooth bow changes. Likewise in painting.
IntErsting !
1:38 1:53. 1:58 (2:10)
粉絲應該寄幾隻真正的毛筆給你表演~~效果(笑果)會很好
棒!😄
Guess talents run in the family
Is it just me or does he have a slight australian accent?
Yep, he grew up in Brisbane, Australia.
nadine rance The weird thing is that he can change his accent depending on the audience he’s serving.
Didnt he used to have a Australian accent
i'm confused :(
To bad I am not that good at anything like that painting
You are handsome
Chen=陈???
Lol
Wow... you are incrible
