Gardening is momentarily suspended when we have to take an emergency trip to the vets, but thankfully the outcome is quickly resolved.
Finally, we'll enjoy a quick trip to a favourite spot of ours, and of course there's cake!

I think yes to the hedge. So glad Pickles is on the mend, our cat needed two vet visits to clear up his infection. It came back two months later.😢 You can make a cheese board for me anytime, it looked scrumptious. Such a sweet story about Pup❣️Thanks for giving him a loving home. Peace be with you Gillian❣️💚

From the early morning pink sky to the evening sky at the end, absolutely lovely. I hope poor Pickle has totally recovered. Mr. Pup, besides being very dapper, is a hero foe fending off the ginger cat attacking Pickle. A lovely and relaxing video. I do like the idea of an ornamental hedge around the flower beds. Your sketch showed how good it would look.
Ha yes! He really is a great guard dog and defender of the kitties! He obviously knew the ginger cat was a bad egg. Luckily Pickle has made a great recovery 🥰🙏🐈✨

Thank you Martine! Yes, I know what you mean, a more natural, free-form garden is what I’m use to. It looks so bare in the winter, and that’s why I considered a hedge but I’m still in limbo whether or not to plant one !💕✨
The hedge will make the garden “warmer” and more cohesive as it covers the boards…adding a more natural look. It will look lovely.

Oh my! Is there anything more beautiful than a spring flower garden?! Snowdrops, hellebores, daffodils, hyacinth......just my favourite. Love your fur babies and that fettucine dish of Charlies' looks fabulous, going to have to give that a try.

When adding a hedge, even a small one, just bear in mind it can restrict your view of some of the flowers. I’m very fond of using Hyssop for a low hedge. I’ve found it to be quite tough, it has wonderful flowers that the bees love, and it’s great to use for herbal medicines. Unlike lavender it’ll stand wetter conditions. It’s easy to propagate from cuttings, or grow from seed. I always enjoy your videos so much and look forward to them. Thank you for taking the time and effort to make them for us to see, they are much appreciated. X

Poor Pickle, both my cats have had similar abscesses on their head and leg. It’s amazing how quickly they bounce back, I’m sure he will be back to all his usual mischief very soon xxx

Yes they really are a problem here unfortunately. If they stay here for a bit on the farm we usually trap and neuter them but we can’t do them all as there’s so many and it’s very expensive also 🙀

It’s 4 AM in the central United States and I’m catching this live after being up with my baby for 4 hours. It’s such a welcome pleasant moment during a time of so much sleep deprivation. Yes to the hedge! Are you perhaps growing some salvia this year? I enjoyed watching the bees dance around mine last summer. So easy to grow from seed.

One of my favorite flowers for spring and summer are portulaca. Do you have them in Ireland?
Mine come back for several years in pots. So delicate and thin like colorful tissue paper . The seeds blow and sometimes plant elsewhere. I had a bunch bloom between stepping stones , a vivid fushia color I did not plant.

Yes those creeping buttercups are a scourge in my garden here in Canada too. You must dig them out when small - those more mature roots run deep. Love love love your pink wheelbarrow! And I’ve made your baked oats a few times now, so delicious! When I don’t have berries on hand I swirl in some strawberry jam or crabapple jelly. Works a treat!

Yes to adding the decorative hedge. Why not try “Stonehenge Dark Druid Yew”? Grows 3-5 feet tall but you can keep it trimmed much lower to your taste and preferred aesthetic. I love taking my pruners to a yew on a soft spring day and slowly snipping away….so calming and relaxing!
I do love Yew and I can imagine how therapeutic it is to prune as it has such a tight structure. Unfortunately it’s very poisonous and with the cows and cats nearby it would be a bit too risky 💕✨

I love the idea of a low hedge! I have to admit that I am always a little bit overzealous, and I am happiest when I do more more more. Yes to the hedge. You're in such a mild climate (compared to mine in Connecticut USA) you can grow many things. Maybe try Sweet Box (Sarcococca)? Blooms in the winter with tiny but very fragrant flowers. Wishing Pickles a very speedy recovery.

Aww, blessings to your kitty. I see so much beauty in your video. First, I have never planted garlic that way but am going to try it this year.
Second, that is a beautiful and well - preserved steamer trunk. I have one from my grandparents. My grandpa said he got it during the war and they shipped all his gear in it. Then my grandma used it for the remainder of their days to store her wedding dress. I had 2 uncle in the Pacific & 1 in Normandy & none of them said a word about any of it. Since they are all story tellers you know, then, it was pretty bad.
Anyway, all of that just to say your video brought back wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing.
Aw thank you! Yes, it’s actually an ornamental garlic and placing the bulbs in a trio makes such a lovely impact of the garden as the flower heads grow very tall! The trunk has been in my husbands family for maybe 100 years or more! It’s travelled to America too and I think it’s marked with Houston, TX on the side. I’m sure it had many stories to tell 🥰☘️✨💕

I agree that a hedge would be nice around the big beds. Have you considered using germander? This herb makes a lovely very short hedge and flowers in summer! It can be sheared and has a lovely scent. I think that the low hedge around your beds would add definition, and look lovely. But as I am sure you know, certain hedges get disease, so be careful to choose the right one. Poor Pickle, I hope so much that he/she is getting much better now. I adore your Charlie, he is such a beautiful cat! I love your other two cats too, and miss not being able to have cats now, as I used to, but have my beautiful black rescue greyhound Madge, and the neighbor has a cat and two dogs, so it would not be fair to get a cat, even if Madge was ok with one, as it would probably go in the neighbor's garden, and not get on with her cat and dogs! xxx
Yes, I definitely ruled out any Buxus as there’s so much disease with it. I was considering Japanese Holly too but the ground is quite wet.
