Ohh, well, this was a really spontaneous maiden run as I suddenly found some time for it. The only batteries I had charged (with T-plugs or EC5 connectors) were two old NiMH batteries I thought were okay. Seems they where either too small for the brushless system, or they where simply too old and couldn't keep the voltage up.
I did have an almost freshly charged 2S LiPo from a previous speed test earlier this day, but of course these larger modern batteries can't be fixed with the stock battery mount system. I really do not recommend this. Especially when running in grass, driving with one-hand, which made it almost impossible not too flip it a few times.
This unit is non-box-art but apart from some extra ball bearings, a GoolRC TG-3 R/C (transmitter/receiver), Arrma standard servo and the generic 3900 kv Brushless System it is all stock.
Before taking it for some real runs on tarmac and dirt, or doing some small jumps with it, I still need to do a little work like the steering adjustment mod and assembling some on road wheel and tire sets I got ready for it. Could be wonderful to be able to use my larger 2S batteries for this one too, but I might need to make up a new way to secure the batteries then. Anybody got an idea that doesn't involve any modifications to the chassis?
With this motor though, if I want to save the back end of the body, I might also need a protection plate or perhaps even a wheelie bar at the rear. Not sure how I can do that ... so again, if anybody got some tips for an easy mod I would appreciate it ...

So fun with the brushless and lipo. Also amazing property and garden to run in!
Thank you, Ping! I have a lot of fun there 🙂
Now all you need to do is fabricate a mower deck on it for when your grass grows up again!😁🤪👊🏼👍🏻
Wonderful video!
Could be wonderful with an RC lawn mower some day 😅😀 Thanks a lot, bro.
Those Tamiyas are great fun even today. I just restored a NDF-01T. It's still a blast driving it. 👍
Thank you for watching, Jan! Yeah, definitely! Uhh, never heard about it. I’ll have to Google it 🙂
@@NordicRC it's a Nitro Truck back from 2004.
Ahh. Nice.
brill made my day seeing this thank you great looking truck
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks a lot for watching, Mark!
Nice run Mikael a bit of tuning and you will have a great truck I like the paint 😀
Thank you so much, Brent! Yeah, needs some small changes and it will be good to go. Hope I will find time for it :-)
That thing is wiiiiiide. Awesome rc bro, like it a lot! Great showing off as well, thanks for sharing it with us 😸✌️
Thanks a lot for watching, my friend!
What a great truck, very fast . Runs just perfect, these are great fun like the Blitzer beetle is.
Hi Peter! Yeah, so much fun these ones. I had a Blitzer Beetle and Stadium Blitzer once too. Great looking Falcon trucks too.
Wonderful, great job, the wheelies on grass look so controllable. Can't wait for the tarmac runs.
Thank you, Liam! It’s such a fun ride. Looking forward getting it out again. Right now it’s just rain and rain again though
Hi Mikael, when I built my Blitzer Beetle Pickup, I used a 30mm M3 machine threaded screw that went up through the plastic gearbox cover straight into the rear of the chassis. I then used a large penny washer with a M3 nut to hold the battery cover on. You don't need to drill any additional holes as the holes are already there although you will need to make a hole in the shelf that the ESC sits on but it's all trial and error. Hope this helps 😎
Hi my mate! Ahhh, loved to read your comment. Definitely triggered some similar ideas in my mind. Thank you so much. Do you have a video with your mod?
My apologies Mikael, I didn't make a video of the modified part but I did film it running around the rear yard at my work although that doesn't really help you very much. You could always use a velcro strap if you didn't want any unsightly holes 👍
Love your garden,it’s like a park, so much room 👊🏻👍🏻
Yeah, I am so happy we moved out of the City. The lawn and our field and the little wood is perfect for the children - and my RC's :-)
Thats a beautiful truck, Great first run, Good Job.
Thank you so much, Bob!
Oh, it looks like a lot of fun, once you got the issues sorted. Good to see it's not just me who has technical issues, ha ha! The red and neon yellow paint job really shines!
Hi bro! Yeah, once it got the 2S LiPo it was really happy. Luckily it was just the batteries this time. And thank you! Yeah, I like the colors on this one.
Beautiful spring day, beautiful house and beautiful garden. Might sell up and move to Scandinavia
Ha ha, go for it. But spring and summer are very short here :-) Thanks a lot for watching, Paul.
Hi Mikael! Your Stadium Thunder is superb, well done! Mine is still in its box and waiting to be built ... Your images are still beautiful, I love it. Hope all is well with you and the family. Take care.
Hi Alex! Thank you! Looking forward seeing yours one day. Yeah, no rush. I had mine in the box for several years 🤭🙂 All is well here. Hope you and your family are good too, my southern friend.
Nice run ; thanks :D
Thank you for watching!
Tamiya on Brushless/lipo is almost funny watching it go that fast. that thing is a wheelie monster! great truck and video! keep it up! The footage starting at 3:52 is awesome, great job filming!
Thank you! Yeah, it was fun the moment it got a good battery to work with 🙂 Thanks a lot for watching bro.
Beautiful shots of grass flying behind the car. And the car looks superb in the sun.👍👍👍
Thank you so much, Milos! I enjoyed the first spring run in our lawn 🙂
Far out, that needs some wheelie bars on the back. Love it
Yeah! A wheelie bar would be nice 😅 Luckily the Lunch Box bar fits
@@NordicRC cool. Hey a question for you, do you know of any other rims that fit the Blitzer chassis. Can't seem to find any with the right offset.
Ahh yeah, hard to find. But no I haven’t tried anything else.
Beautiful looking truck Mikael, a classic!
👍😊
Glad to see spring has sprung in your neck of the woods!😃
Thank you so much Jeremy! Rain all week after this was recorded and rain all next week 😅 Still spring, but the Tamiyas must wait a little more. Luckily I got to run and film a little more before the rain kicked in.
Hi, Mikael - what an enjoyable test run to watch, your Stadium Thunder looks beautiful against the freshly mowed grass and the deep blue sky. I think you may have played with the saturation levels in some shots? Looks awesome. Well, that LiPo sure livened the little beauty up!
Yep, you better do something to protect the rear of your truck - on my Blitzer, I have worn away the plastic on the gearbox case and also shaved some metal off the motor after wheelies on tarmac! I have temporarily zip-tied a piece of plastic to the rear of the gearbox that has helped, but will look at making an aluminium guard/wheelie bar for the truck in the near future. Mick from RC Hobby Shed made a fantastic solution for his Blitzer Beetle - but then he has a machine workshop! All the best from your mate, Mark.
Hi Mark! Thank you so much my friend! Yeah, the saturation in all the slow motion shots are up high just to set them apart. The rest hasn’t been touched. Difficult filming day with clouds though. I will definitely do something temporary to protect the rear, and also an alternative battery mount. Not sure if anything will show up in videos before I find a good solution. I read in a comment here that the lunch box wheelie bar is a direct fit. Gonna look into that and see if it’s true too. Uhh, yeah, I bet Mick found a cool solution. Just like you he is very creative. I’m not sure if my metal parts ever will originate from other than clicking on a purchase though 😅🙂 All the best to you too Mark, and thank you for watching
Cool RC,and great run brother
Thank you so much, Duke!
I didn't know these were still on the market. I still have mine from over 20 years ago, but it's missing a few parts but after seeing this video I just might try and get mine up and running again. I will definitely go with a brushless setup and get rid of the mechanical speed control that came with the kit. Your truck and video are awesome, btw!
Ahh, yeah, both the Stadium Thunder, Blitzer Beetle and Stadium Blitzer are re-released by now. So lot's of brand new fresh spare parts available for the old ones too :-) and thank you very much!
Wow, beautiful spring, awesome car mate. Nice video. Greetings from Colombia 💫💫💥💥🤘🤘👍👍🇨🇴🇨🇴😎
Thank you so much! Greetings from Scandinavia. All rain and rain here again now 😅
@@NordicRC Same here mate, It's been raining for over a week almost non stop! I'm dying to go out crawling
Hopefully summer will be less rainy than this spring 😅
Fast for a Stadium Thunder :-)
Yeah, definitely a lot faster than I remember my stock 1996 Stadium Thunder was 😅 Thank you for watching, Mal.
Just the right balance with the lipo battery, fast but still able to have fun with it.
Hi Stephen! Yeah, I think this is an ideal top speed for it, although I either have to install some rear protection or a wheelie bar ... or be very gentle with accelerating with this set up - if I want my body to survive this first season.
Beautiful run bro!! The thunder looks amazing. As for the battery problem Venom makes lipos the same size as nimh packs for tight fit vehicles. I'm going to modify a wheelie bar later to see if I can get it to work on my Blitzer I'll keep you posted on the results Bro. Looking forward to seeing more of your Stadium Thunder running around :)
Thank you, Chris! Yeah, here in Europe we got some too, like Carson, that makes them. I used to use an LRP rounded 2S LiPo that fits most of my cars. One recently died, but I got a couple more. But these where not charged (I keep all my LiPos in storage mode with no exceotion) so I had to use what i had ready. Uhh, would love to see what you come up with. If it’s a good idea I will borrow it ☺️🤭
@@NordicRC I definitely get it bro all my lipo's are storage charged to and stored in a ammo box... As for the wheelie bar. Bought one for my RC-10 B4.2 it's roughly the same size as the Blitzers so going to redrill it fit..lol
Dude that body is fucking awesome, defo doing the clear bed when I paint my own
Thanks a lot, mate! Happy painting to you 😀
Beautiful looking Stadium Thunder. One of the best paint jobs you've done in my opinion Mikael. It definitely prefers lipo's with that brushless system. Big double thumbs up my friend 😀👍👍
Thank you so much, Derek! Means a lot to me coming from you. Yeah, despite minor mistakes during the paint process, I'm glad I at least took the time to do all the masking and multi-colors. Yeah, that ESC wasn't too happy with my old NiMH's :-)
Great video hope you are well and happy the good weather is with you 😎 there a handful when you go brushless I’m near to completing a racing fighter with a 4370kv brushless in it. I’ve not run it yet as I need to do the decals but I think it should fly like yours 👍 another great build from yourself take care bro 😎
Thanks, mate! Sounds like a fast Racing Fighter. Got a new brushless motor ready for my RF too. Gonna be fun.
@@NordicRC yeah great 👍 just finished it b4 and took it up the road!! 💨 very fast on 2s I don’t wanna run her now 🤣 she looks so 😎🤣 take care 🙏👍
I was looking at a wheelie bar for this too, apparently a lunchbox wheelie bar works perfectly.
It does? That’s great news
Dang what I'd give to have a garden that size!
Yeah! We moved out of the city two years ago. Place costs the same as your little apartment we had 😅
If you use a Dremel to remove the curved ribs at the bottom of the battery try that square pack will fit right in. Try & find a GPM Lunchbox wheelie bar too. Blitzers are great fun on brushless & lipo
Thanks for the tips! Not too found of modifying the chassis. I got other smaller LiPos (that where not charged for this run). But would love to find a way to secure my larger batteries in there too. I don’t think it will be enough to remove the curved ribs. Thanks for the tip with the Lunch Box wheelie bar, Nick! Will look into that
I'm glad this chassis can hold a hard pack 5000.
It can’t 😅🙂 Unless you make up your own battery strap etc.
Are you going to GPS it with a lipo and nickel metal hydride?
Hiya Mikael. Very nice springtime scenes you have there. Stupid question but was the initial problem with the batteries that the ESC was in lipo mode? That would make it cut out pretty sharpish with an Nimh. Anyway the lipo certainly livened it up. I can recommend those Gartpot rounded lipo batteries because they are the same size as nimh and will also fit in the cars with the rounded battery trays like the M05's etc. Anyway, very nice sunny video. Best wishes to you my friend :-)
Hiya Pete ! Yeah, great spring. Now it will rain for the rest of the week :-) The first issue was the first battery. It's dead and done. Couldn't hold the voltage up. The second issue with the low speed and short run time with the other battery could very well have been caused by a combination of a low mah rating and the LiPo cut-off taking over very early when the NiMH voltage dropped down again. It's a generic second hand brushless system so I have no manual to alter the set up (although maybe a manual from the other cheap brands like Surpass or GoolRC could do the trick ... or maybe even the Hobbywing Quickrun ...?). But yeah, even with the 2S LiPo that had just been used for a couple of minutes on a speed test, there was plenty of speed and plenty of run time. Think I continued for 1/2 an hour or more after stopping filming. I do have some rounded old-nimh-style batteries from LRP that I normally use and also many smaller LiPos than the one here. But this run was very impulsive so I had to make due with what I had charged and ready :-) Thanks a lot for watching, Pete. Best to you and yours too.
How do you plan to resolve the issue with the battery? I have the same issue with the Blitzer Beetle, a hardcase 2s LiPo doesn't fit and I can't be relied upon to not flip it!
Not sure yet. Maybe extend the battery mount holders a little. Or maybe a strap. Or maybe just the easy way with Velcro tape.
MARK BOWDEN. ive just left a comment about the battery holder plate. Hope this helps 👍
Runs sweet and looks good. That first NiMh pack seems to be ready for the bin or was it just a bad charge?
Thank you, Mattias! Yeah, that one has seen it’s last run. Both where fully charged, so it can’t be saved. The other one might still be good for a quick run with a Grasshopper some day 🙂
do they still do this chassis? i'd love to do one some day
Yeah, definitely seen the Blitzer Beetle still around.
@@NordicRC sweet, its nuts to think tamiya did truggies and stadium trucks before they where cool
@@_blood_moon_proto_1500 Yeah, long before the Rustler and Firestorm craze :-)
@@NordicRC i still have my firestorm 10t
what transmitter use ?
GoolRC TG-3 ... Very cheap 🙂
@@NordicRC ok 👍
How did it run?
Hi Nick. Works sweet! Might need a wheelie bar or a plate in the rear though, to save the body.
like a spring chicken
He he, or a spring cow happy to be set lose on the grass after a long winter :-)
I laughed like a drain when it stood on its tail. Wonderful. Why are modern batteries so damn big? Even the large nimh's are a stretch in the Grasshopper/Hornet.
Yeah, this could do with a smaller 2S battery. I do have several. But this run wasn't really planned so I had nothing else charged and ready other than the three batteries used. In my Hornets and Grasshoppers I have had success using smaller and non-hard case 2S and 3S batteries
The Vikings can now raid RCs. Lol
Hola!!! Donde compraste el kit del stadium thunder?? Te ha quedado muy bonito, me encanta ese coche!!!!
Hola! I am afraid the RUclips app doesn’t have a translation.
@@NordicRC hello!! Where did you get the Stadium Thunder kit? I love that car !! You have been very nice !!!
You live next to haven in a field that is heaven itself????????????
Time to break out the lipos.
Do you giveaway rc pls.
