    Correction: The Prismacolors are wax-based, not oil based. Polychromos (the other brand I have) are oil-based.

    Baylee. Thank you so much for addressig the misconception that oil paints are toxic and require all kinds of safety precautions to be used. I'm an oil painter myself and I am always having to correct people on those vert misconceptions. So, Baylee, I thank you. For doing your research, for dispelling the myths with factual support, and ultimately showing people that oil paints themselves are not toxic. With the exception of certain colours and these are just as toxic in acrylics and watercolours as they are in oils, if not more so.

    • @virtualarmageddon6232
      @virtualarmageddon6232 5 лет назад +7

      I was also happy to hear her dispel those myths around oil paints. Those misconceptions about how "extremely toxic" oil paint is one of the most frustrating thing I've heard way too many times in the art community. Just wish they'd do even 5 minutes of research before spreading those myths ugh

      I had no idea that was even a concern. My art teacher never mentioned it, I've used oils a couple times and I was never concerned about it. As I said, I had no idea that people were concerned about them being toxic. Over summer I used oil paint to paint lockers and for those I used gloves because it does not come off of skin easily.

    • @SmillyDonut

      @@Wolf31222360 Yeah. It's a very real misconception. Especially on the internet where its super easy for one uninformed person to say it and then the people who hear it from them pass it on and so it goes. 😪

    I see what you mean about the face not being the same and I do prefer the expression on the digital one, but If you had not mentioned it and did not have the comparison at the end, I probably would not have noticed. I think you nailed it and got it as close as it could humanly be. My paintings never look like my sketches and I always like my sketches more.
    This is gorgeous. I love the crispness and luminosity. I've been reading about oils recently and I'm very tempted to get some. The vibrancy is unmatched.
    A great thing about this is that if it is taken care of, it will last for hundreds of years. Can you imaging this piece in some futuristic museum 200 years from now! 😊

    You put so much work into your art and as someone who is looking to start selling commissions you are a huge inspiration to me. I almost gave up art because I had people constantly put me down but after thinking about how much it means to me I realised that I should “follow my dreams” as they say and I’ve never been happier. To the people who are maybe just starting out in art keep going! Everyone has to start somewhere. I have my mum to thank for my interest in art because I was brought up where I was constantly given paper and paints and my mum would let me make things and stuff, I think I had the best childhood I could ever have asked for.

    Hey Baylee!
    Im also kinda a new oil painter, i im familiar with some struggles.
    1: you CAN clean your mineral cleaning stuff. (I have the same cleaning solution as you) if you leave it sit in an airtight container, the paint will gather at the bottom and you can filter it out.
    It might take a few times to get all the paint out, and i personally havent been able to make it compleatly clear. But its reusable!
    2: Liquin is a really great drying oil, as it dosent discolor the paint (unlike linseed oil that can leave a yellow glare to your finished paint.
    I also use it to thin out my paints, as a little goes a long way.
    I really do love your channel and your art, so I hope this information helps you!
