The problem with my Walther Talon Magnum (Hatsan 125) in .177 is too much velocity. 7.9 grain pellets were supersonic, and although my groups weren't horrible, they weren't great either. Once switching to heavier 10.5 grain pellets the groups shrunk, now a good 25 yard group is smaller than a dime, and a good 50 yard group is about 1.5 inches, not bad for a magnum springer, but took a lot of practice. I have a few videos on my channel about the gun, target shooting and ballistics into clay.
You forgot to mention the fps, some multi-pump and break barrels rifles only shoot at about 400 fps while other rifles shoot much higher,Is 400ish fps enough to take care of these pests?
Iv'e got a Chinese B-3 (with the butt pad and nylon gasket) and a little Crosman scope. Will this take down a prarie dog at 25 yards or so or should I resort to a .22 long rifle. I hate to see them suffer if they don't have to, but them horses can get fractious when it's noisy.
I think a criteria he neglected was noise. I bought a .177 that went 1200fps and it sounded like a .22LR! I settled on a .22 that goes 980fps. Much more stealthy! And not any less accurate than a faster shot.
In fact, it is more accurate - a supersonic pellet is absolutely useless as it becomes instable when it goes back to subsonic (that happens within 10 yards). You should consider heavier pellets for your .177 - look at the JSB Jumbo Exact heavy with 10.34 gr - this will be subsonic, hard hitting and probably way more accurate if your rifle likes it. I still recommend a .22 or .25 PCP - its just sweet when you can reach out to over 100 yards.
Well, the whisper and the shadow look very good to me, you dont have to replace the spring and yo can leave it coked all the time you want, also the speed has increased up to 230m/s in 5.5 and 305 in 4.5 (with 24J)
can you please say the fps of each gun. i have a diana model 20 its a .177 cal at 495 fps. i want to get a bigger air rifle for rabbits, squirrels, magpies, crows, muskrats, etc. i need more power. i know i need something at least 1000 fps. i can't spend more than about $200. and i prefer spring break barrels. please get back to me, also do you have any recommendations?
You recommend .177 cal. Gamo Socom Extreme., For dove & small hunting? Or what is the best Gamo Brand model for this type of game? Walther Talon Magnum is better? I have a Daystate Huntsman XL . 22 Cal. , Greetings from Mexico, Thanks for your answer
dear pyramid air: i am new to break barrels and this is going to be my first air rifle from this web site/company What type of pellets would you recommend for the venom nitro piston? pleas reply back...
I have killed raccoons with my Walther Talon Magnum .177 (Hatsan 125). There is not much loss in power with .177 vs .22 because they have the same powerplant regardless. There is only a small difference in power when you start shooting at further ranges like 50 yards, in which case I wouldn't use on a raccoon .177 or .22. In fact, reports show .177 penetrates hard objects better (like a skull).
Nonsense SHOOTER3258, even sub 12ftpd air guns can be used for small pest control like rats and rabbits. Or is it that you need a 12 bore just to hit something? airgun shooters are some of the finest marksmen around.
I keep seeing younger folks wanting to shoot all manner of critter (expecting to kill) with a Crosman 760 Pumpmaster. And I get the feeling some of them want to accomplish that with BBs. They're frightening me. And their parents either don't know any better or don't care.
I don't listen to any of this bullcrap. I have a Crossman Fire Nitro Piston .177 cal 1200fps on alloy and 1000fps on lead with muzzle energy at 18ftlb and she does way more. Shot placement is the key with any air rifle. People say get a .22 because of size in pellets, But it's more that they are afraid to miss the shot. The animals will have same effect if you miss their vital organs with both calibers. Get a good clean shot and that animal will fall.
River Freak River Freak bigger, heavier caliber is only better for longer range shooting. Retaining energy and bucking the wind is key when shooting past 50yds. Love my 20fpe .177 bsa but I wouldn’t take shots at raccoons, crows or ground squirrels past 60yd. I’ll leave it to my .25
I have a serious problem with you guys recommending a 392/397 for Racoons ...That is just not enough power for the average shooter to humanly dispatch that size of game.... A 392, the stronger of the too, is lucky to generate 15 foot pounds of energy. An accepted rule of thumb is you want 1FPE per 1LB the animal weighs, ON CONTACT, not at the muzzle... I just really think this is a bad recommendation, especially considering the younger crowd that watches these videos...
"CO2 airguns lose power when its cold." Well, in our tropical country where cool weather is a luxury, that does not hold true. In that case I shall go for that low cost CO2 airgun, it is powerful in warm weather and has a stable construction to boot.
I'm sorry that you are disturbed, but 12 foot-pounds is enough to kill a raccoon reliably at close range. This video is about pest control, not hunting. Tom Gaylord
I am going to get one soon, and all I am going to use it for is target practice because it is really fun. And actually there isn't much hunting done. There are lots of competitions for kids using airguns :D

.22 cal is the best at 80% more energy then a .177 at the same speed .22cal wins everytime for me, i like .177 for target shooting.

It actually looks like we do not carry this gun anymore. The Gamo Big Cat 1200 and 1250 would be a good alternative, though.
Thanks,
Pyramyd Air Team
hatsan 125 mod sniper, .177 .22 and .25 those are my favs i own all 3

I bought the Hatsan 95 in .22. The squirrel herd has been thinned considerably!
The trigger also changed, it can be regulated to adjust the pressure of it
how about the Beeman rs2 duel caliber .177/.22.

Good info bud ,great video ..👌
What about the Benjamin Trail Np .22 caliber for shooting at 15 to 30 yards? Would it knock out a crow, raccoon, or a opossum?
Where is your shop in USA?
would you recommend the daisy powerline 880 with daisy precision pointed pellets to hunt pigeons or squirrels at short range.
so shooting off shooting sticks is out right ye steady hold is critical to accuracy
My Benjamin prowler. 22 did good last year.
Now gamo has putted the igt system in his rifles, that means no springs replacements, no "twang" and a more accurate shots.

would the Browning Leverage be a good choice for birds and squirls?

I have one and let me tell you. IT. IS. AMAZING.
Should I use my Stoeger X50 for pest control or should I go hunting?
do you need a lisence for the remmington air master? and would you reccomend the crosman phantom .22 cal for prarie dog hunting?
What is a good gun for target shooting. A BREak barrel preffered.
dear pyramid air:

Dónde se encuentra su tienda en USA?
Is the crosman phantom .177 okay for hunting?

Some one told me that the .177 is more accurate than the .22 is this correct?
Nope!
what do you guys think about hatsan at44 ? :)
Thanx
helpful
I wouldn't try to do any hunting or pesting with a rifle below 16 foot pounds.
I keep seeing younger folks wanting to shoot all manner of critter (expecting to kill) with a Crosman 760 Pumpmaster. And I get the feeling some of them want to accomplish that with BBs. They're frightening me. And their parents either don't know any better or don't care.

Just bought a similar air rifle you have and couldn't agree more with your comment.

i have the same Rifle and it shoots through 23mm pine board at 15 meters thats awesome love this gun
los brakebarrel valen hongo no vale la pena consideralos como rifle de airecomprido...
@TheAapjeman Hallo, alles goed?
Ha we don't have raccoons in Scotland
But we do get rats :(
@creep426 the latter
"Volter". Dude. We're american. You say Walther.

i shot a raccoon with my ak 47 waser 10 is that 2 much haahaahahahaahhaha
Forget CO2, pistols aren't powerful enough, lolololol. The same 20 yards I destroy squirrels and grackles with my 2300KT.
Hoi allemaal
"CO2 airguns lose power when its cold." Well, in our tropical country where cool weather is a luxury, that does not hold true. In that case I shall go for that low cost CO2 airgun, it is powerful in warm weather and has a stable construction to boot.
my co2 gun always kills pests in all conditions....so you're wrong
The problem is is that you will never get within 20 yards for a crow they are just to smart.
David Hanson you’ll never get to stalk too close to one, it’s more for when you’re still hunting and they land within 20yds
I'm sorry that you are disturbed, but 12 foot-pounds is enough to kill a raccoon reliably at close range. This video is about pest control, not hunting.
Tom Gaylord
Maybe racoons, are getting into your GARBAGE?
I don't care about the garbage, as much as I don't want them in the hen house!
pumps suck get a break barrel gas piston
they should destroy all pump airguns
i hate airgun hunters or pesters!!
airguns ar for fun shooting and not for hunting!
No they are actually primarily for pests. Yes they are fun, but that is not their primary purpose.
i know that :(
I am going to get one soon, and all I am going to use it for is target practice because it is really fun. And actually there isn't much hunting done. There are lots of competitions for kids using airguns :D
Accent is too bad.
i now how to buy a air gun grab it and RUN!!! or buy it.
yes but they are not actuate have awful trigger very hold sensitive,
you are better off getting a benjamin discovery
only some of them have the new trigger or SAT, and even then, they are not accurate outside 25YRDS
gamos are terrible no matter what they upgrade
