30 gallon galvanized metal trash cans. Lay a couple of 2 by 4s parallel each other with a 3 to 4 inch gap between for air flow under the cans. If you don't put the wood underneath the feed will sweat then get moldy.
What a great video. How satisfying it is to get a good deal and with a little effort to bring it back to brand new. What an excellent result. As for babies, what’s not to love❤️
Lone Star Grillz is a very good brand for smokers. I've been looking at buying a pellet smoker and Lone Star is right up there with Yoder and Pitts and Spitts.
New smoker looks great, Matt. We really like the smoker videos. The real highlight for us in this video was Brown Baby and White Baby. They are adorable!!! Our Mom and Dad always put feed in metal trash cans with tight fitting lids. The rodents seemed to get in anything else. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
The best rat and mouse proof feed bins are galvanized metal trash cans with tight fitting galvanized lids. Nothing can chew through galvanized metal, and a tight fitting lid keeps things from crawling through cracks and gaps. Rodents can chew through plastic and wood, but not through glass or metal. A glass container with a tight lid would work too I guess, IF you could find one big enough.

You bought plastic containers for feed.. rats will go right thru those in a second, you're going to need steel containers, metal garbage cans work pretty good, but you need some weights for the lids, rats will lift the lids. Rats are seriously smart and will quickly learn what a traps and poisons are and will avoid them. There is no quick fix for rats. Once you got them, it's a full-time job to control them. They will burro into the ground and make tunnels with full-on living areas, only coming out to get more feed and water. Good luck.
Hell yeah brother!
I use metal 55 gallon barrels that had food grade cooking oil or food grade ingredients for storage. They have a metal lid and a locking ring on the top that keeps several 50 lb bags of grain/feed in them and sealed against rodents and goats.
so Rocky was not wasting time after all 😜
"I'm old now, I wanna smoke meat." - Matt Carriker
All innuendos aside, I enjoy watching you hyperfocus and progress your skills on a thing. It's kinda your thing. It's basically why I subscribed way back when you were experimenting with shotgun shells.
The best storage boxes for animal feed ... is an old fridge .... lay it in its back comes with a hinges and handles... you can paint it or just leave as is..... From years of farm life I have found they are the best thing.... and the recycling is good also...🗃🗃🗃🗃🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
Chocolate for the older one
Love ya brother, wishing you, the fam (& dad), and crew a Blessed Merry Christmas and Amazing New Year. From Matt, Mary and fam from Ohio!!!!
we're sitting around 0-5 degrees on our farm right now.. everyones plenty happy, cow was out playing in the snow today.
dam that smoker sells for $4k now days!! well then i need to post a couple of mine then because i went on a building smokers kick a few years ago during the pandemic and ended up making 8 too many after i made the 2 I needed one for cabin 1 for home.. for my animal feed i use the old school style metal garbage cans that are like 35-39 gallons because they come with a matching metal lid and i have yet to see a varmit get into or thru one if an animal figures out how to flip the lid off i stick a concrete block so if it manages ever again it'll flattin it by the time they both hit the ground but ya been using the metal cans for 10+ years now and not one breach since
The boogie bird was a woodcock. Call the babies chocolate and milk.
So glad you got yourself a nice smoker and thanks for the dad advice to take care of your stuff a little loves goes a long way merry Christmas Matt and thanks for all the joy and adventures this year🎉
Honestly, the pitting from the rust makes that look soo much better. I have a straigh taper point pry bar from the early 1800s not a lick of rust but its heavily pitted. Love that thing
I have owned 5 different Lone Star Grillz, and they are some of the best backyard cookers you can get. Chris, the owner, is a great dude. I'm here for the old man smoker phase!
I'm whipping up some fresh salsa, let me know when those are coming off the grill.
30 gallon galvanized metal trash cans. Lay a couple of 2 by 4s parallel each other with a 3 to 4 inch gap between for air flow under the cans. If you don't put the wood underneath the feed will sweat then get moldy.
Merry Christmas to all (3?) generations of Carrikers !
Merry Christmas to you and your family Matt.
You go, Matt! Make Smoker Great Again!
What a great video. How satisfying it is to get a good deal and with a little effort to bring it back to brand new. What an excellent result. As for babies, what’s not to love❤️
Oh man watching you take all the rust off of the grill is so satisfying!!
Hi Matt. Mid 30s here, been getting the smoking bug the past year. I enjoy your smoking/grill prep content hahah
Picked up a reverse flow this year and did my first brisket on it. Came out fantastic.
Liking and commenting for the best thumbnail and title combo I've seen in a long time
Lone Star Grillz is a very good brand for smokers. I've been looking at buying a pellet smoker and Lone Star is right up there with Yoder and Pitts and Spitts.
I could watch long videos of just goats. I love goats; they're sooo cute. But BB (Brown Baby) is the cutest!🥹
Merry Christmas, y'all.
Merry Christmas everyone! Love the baby goats! The smoker cleaned up well!
Merry Christmas to a great family!! God Bless!
We use galvanized metal cans with a trash bag and bungee cord the lids to the handles on the can. Ten years and nothing has gotten in them.
