It's similar to the transition from 2D to 3D back in the day when anyone didn't know how to do it. Just that this time, a lot of people do know how to do an action game, but they don't have the same people with the experience trying to make the shift and there's no clear know how on how to innovate after the change either.
I mean this is not the first time that square enix turn a turn based game into a action rpg they did the same with parasite eve in 3rd birth and it resulted in the extinction of that franchise but this is a good game it just it is not what the old schoo Valkyrie profile fans wanted .
The problem is not the Turn-based combat in itself, it's the presentation of it. It's mind-boggling that devs do not understand that. Especially since the SAME people that were begging for some "action'y" combat style are the same people that want to play it on Easy-mode. Why do you cater to these kind of people? Stop. Just try to advance turn-combat to the next level, add some spice to it and you're gucci.
All you need to do is make turn based games more spicy and interesting. Persona is literally an example of this.

Valkyrie Elysium was an awesome action game, idk why these "fans" are so adamant it's bad.
