    That was a perfect explanation for me. I didn't know that if there is less sunlight the seeds try to reach the sunlight. Thanks a lot!

    No reason to throw away. Replant them deeper. No problem. Just be careful,they are very delicate. Mine reaches spindlyness rapidly before discarding the seed capsule I Usually try to assist her in the removal but this can be risky. Has worked out so far. I see there are other comments informing on the replanting I just wanted to say something too. Thank you brother. Great video. Very helpful.

    Great video man , very informative. I've been searching for information for my new grow and u answered one of my big questions, about giving new paper towel germinated seeds that I put in peat moss plugs any light or not. Alot of people say wait till they show . But it looks like this is what happens. I was originally going to put them right into soil but alot of people said Fox farm OF is too hot, so I'm trying peat first.
    Nice job man

    Thank you. I'm facing this issue right now Leggy seedlings and not fully developed roots- so when I'm trying to transplant, the roots collapse. I live in so California- we have high temperatures. I moved many seedlings from indoors to under a tree and they still died. I placed others in sheltered light and they also died. So what you do, filtered light or short periods of direct sunlight? I'm new at gardening so thank you.

    If you have to sell them leggy sell it loose-leaf and create variety bags or clam shells no need to throw away food and waste money, time, effort etc... good video and always repot or give away to friends neighbors it’s better for you, the environment as well as the customers. Just give them a free leggy plant with any purchase of non leggy plants or sell them @ .50 cents a piece. I apologize for being a freak about throwing stuff away 😂 I try to conserve anyway I can.

Almost gets freezing at night, but never completely and this has stopped them. I'll soon pot them on and as the nights warm here they'll be grand.

    I am starting to sow seeds now because the apartment I stay gets good sunlight from around sept-Oct until around Mar-Apr and indirect light for the rest of the year. If I add artificial light to make sure the seedlings are short and sturdy with good leaves, will the light outside need to match the intensity after I move them out in the balcony? Or will they do fine for a month or two with indirect light? I do not want artificial light around the year as this is just a hobby for me.

    • @ZipGrowInc
      @ZipGrowInc  8 лет назад +1

      You should be just fine! The plants may be slightly shocked at first with the change, but that's normal when moving plants from indoors to outdoors because of a variety of factors. This process is actually called: "hardening off" if you want to research it more. Best of luck, Komal!

  • @butkusfan23
    @butkusfan23 6 лет назад +1

    What about the exact opposite- when your plant is very short but sprouting a ton of leaves? I planted an AK47 seed on a whim, just to try it. I have zero growing experience. I have no real equipment and I dont expect a high yield or incredible potency, but I thought I would see what happens.
    I planted my seed in a large cup-size planter. I used some organic potting soil I had sitting around. I set it on the windowsill and watered it once and waited. It sprouted a couple days later.
    I planned on growing it in the sun, but here in the Pacific Northwest its been cloudy off and on and still too chilly. I have set it in the sun on sunny days and finished the combined 18 hours a day of light under a couple of 15 watt T8 aquarium fixtures i had lying around. I have also been using a small strip of weak aquarium LED’s on it.
    My plant has not grown much in height. Literally only two inches. But its got two sets of healthy leaves, 4 more small leaves sprouting under those and two more sprouting out of the top. Its exciting, but shouldn’t the plant be taller? Will this hurt the plant or stunt it somehow? My lights are about 5 inches away from the top of the plant. The plant is about 10-11 days old, and a healthy green color. I have only watered it 2-3 times and i let the top soil get pretty dry before watering again.
    Should i increase the space between my plant and my lights to get it to stretch more?

    • @dexwilson2163
      @dexwilson2163 5 лет назад +2

      After 10-11 days, the amount of growth you have sounds like its about right on track. If youve watered 2 or 3 times already, you are likely overwatering the seedling, which will kill it faster than slightly underwatering will. As for the lights you have on it, lets say you have 40-45 watts aimed at it, that will be fine while it is in the seedling stage, but once it actively starts vegging, those lights wont be enough to get the full amount of growth that you will want.

    • @butkusfan23
      @butkusfan23 5 лет назад

      Dex Wilson thanks for the reply. This was just a seed I have used as an experiment. My level of knowledge on the subject was almost zero. My water ph was high, and I tried adding some ferts way too early. The growth halted at about 4 inches, plant turned dark green then bottom set of leaves turned yellow then brown.
      I used my ph reducer from my aquarium supplies and added no more ferts the next couple weeks. Plant grew after I switched to higher wattage bulbs. But one of the bulbs was an LED bulb that goes in a desk lamp, and I read the rating as “100 watt replacement” but it was only 15 watts, so that bulb plus the other were only 35 watts. I had the plant under this lighting for weeks, not knowing it was not enough. The plant did have plenty of open airflow and good temp in the house and a small fan giving it air.
      I got tired of the slow growth- the plant was two months old and only 8 inches tall. Small white spots appeared on a few leaves, looked like leaf septoria but I have no idea, and the plant gets tons of airflow. I moved plant outside and growth definitely increased. Plant is now in a 3 gal bucket and is about 18 inches tall, from the top of the bucket to the top of the plant, and I finally have sets of new stems out of the growth nodes that are about 2 inches long and my main fan leaves on the main leaf sets are about 4 inches. Its so late now that I want to take it into flower. I still have problems with the very bottom sets of leaves slowly turning yellow and dying. I cannot tell if its Nitrogen burn or Nitrogen deficiency. I am such a noob and have no friends with experience to tell me. The plant is basically kind of lollipopping itself. Now n then I add a few ML of aquarium plant fertilizer because it does have small amounts of Nitrogen and Phosphorous and such. I know that is not the proper way to do it, but again, I am basically just using this as a learning experience.

      sounds like it might be a nitrogen deficiency if the leaves are yellowing and falling off, nutrient burn tends to starts at the tips and work its way inwards with a burned/crispy appearance. As for moving it outside, might have been the better option. Hell, i wish i could grow outside, i live far enough in the country that im not worried about stealth (its still illegal here, go figure) but the issue here is that im in south-east texas, where humidity is constantly between 90-100% and the temps can get up to 110 in the summer, which is way too hot for outside growing. If it comes down to it, use it as a learning experience and cut your losses with this particular plant and start growing another one, it can sometimes take a few tries to get things right and learn the best ways to do things for your situation. One thing i did before i even started growing was to read through a bunch of different forum posts about different things and join some really good communities online since i have the same issue with a lot of friends that smoke, but none of them actually know how to grow anything. One of the best resources i found for information was the High Times grow journals, there are a lot of them on there that are first time growers that are figuring things out as they go with a lot of help and tips from more experienced growers.

      If you do decide to cut your losses and grow new plants, your best bet might be to see if you can buy a half of schwag somewhere thats aight quality and harvest the seeds from that instead of spending 10 bucks a pop for high quality seeds. Genetics does play a role in the quality of the bud, but not as much as a lot of people seem to think, what makes schwag schwag is simply the fact that it is mass planted in a field somewhere with the minimum amount of care necessary to get it to a harvestable product.

      Dex Wilson I have watched several vids on the subject now. The tips of the leaves do turn brown and crispy. I know I am not adding proper ferts and the plants need proper ratios, and I know they need flushings of pure water to get rid of salts and such. I have drain holes and i do flush it. Its taken a beating but its come back each time it got wilty or stunted. I have learned a lot. Thankfully, I live in WA state, and I did not have to pay for the seed. It was an accident in a bag of popcorn buds I bought at the local dispensary. Bud here is legal and cheap. For mids that are 22% thc its only about $3 a gram, and only 8-12 bucks a gram for top shelf. So I am just going to see how this plant goes. Space is not a problem, I buy my weed no problem. So, I am just curious how this plant goes with such little care and how little I can spend on it. If I decide to actually grow again and do it seriously, I know to ph my water, not to overwater, not to add ferts too early, add proper ferts for cannabis and use proper ratios, use proper wattage for indoor bulbs, etc. I definitely learned a ton. I know this plant would make a lot of experienced growers scream at how I treated it or what not, but I got the seed for free and used it as my learning curve. And even with all the mistreatment, I have an AK plant that made it and I am hoping its female. I have backed off with the lighting and I think its growing pistils. So I know the yield will be crummy since its only one main stalk and I did not top it, train it, etc, and the potency may not be great since my ferts are not made for this and I know the curing process after harvest is important too. But I will still have a small amount of cannabis that I grew myself and I think that’s pretty cool.

    What are your thoughts on using small blocks of the tower media for starting seeds? As seen here: ruclips.net/video/4XI9fKm92Ic/видео.html

    • @ZipGrowInc
      @ZipGrowInc  7 лет назад

      Seeds and seedlings typically need a medium that holds moisture and buffers temp swings well. Not sure what he's using so we can't speak to it exactly, but true Matrix Media is over 90% air so it's not a great fit for proper germination because it doesn't hold moisture. Another question worth asking is how well does it grow once it's sprouted. Might be something to find examples of before investigating something like that.

    It is not about "getting enough light" it is about getting the right spectrum of light. Also they do not reach to get more light.. They reach for the blue of the sky. That is why they are compacted more or shorter inter nodes. So your information is good but the real reason is not balancing the light etc.. You can fix this by adding in a 460 nano-meter blue light.. Once the plant sees this blue, they will stop stretching. As far as the nitrogen goes.. Nitrate is what they use more specially as babies.. So I am not sure what your saying there.. Higher feed = more growth. More nitrate = more stretch or growth. Well in Cannabis that is. Just realized those are not pot plants haha

    Tired of these dudes with leggy seedling. The reason why you get leggy seedlings is you give them too much light. There is no place in the world that is light 12 14 hours straight.except North Pole. Seedlings need 4-6 hours of light max till true leaves come.
