Thanks for sharing this. I love these chairs. Brilliant design, they're comfortable, durable and everywhere. They're in at least half of the thousands of movies I've seen (I always look for them). They've been part of my life for at least 40 years. I'll always have them in my home.
I'm pleased to be a part of history, having re caned several hundreds of these wonderful bentwoods over the years. The No.14 is definately the most popular design. They don't make them like that anymore.
Thonet, Kohn, Fischel, Mundus,... and Baumann in France.... So nice and useful productions of "Bistro Chairs".... and so strong after more one century !!
I own 2 ot these original Thonet chairs, the wooden decks i presurved too, after researching what materials they used around 1880, both original and as new again, great old Thonet stamp underneath, Hot Brandmark.
Austrian Company it is, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH, before 1940 all production was done in Czech, now that same company is reproducing imitations. They did produce them all over the world.
