It's great to see Jackson learning how to repair sheet metal panels. He did a nice job welding them in.

Give a kid a new floor pan, they’ll have no road noise or exhaust asphyxia for a day. Teach that kid to weld in a panel, they’ll have learned a skill for life.

Use your hammer handle to push the metal down when you tack it. Usually the wood wont slide around like that flat bar and it also wont weld to the flat bar if you get too close.

Jeff, try the cut and butt technique. A lot faster.

another way to do the panel fitment , before cutting old one out , mark it, so you know where the bad spots are, lay new one in, self tap or clinko it in , cut them both together at the same time while angle your cut off wheel so the top panel is a litteral fraction (two hairs lol) bigger than the old one.. perfect fit each time.. other body panels it works well too..

Look at how all that just fell into place, nothing needed but a few dabs of hot glue and it's good as new! 😅 Ah, the joy of old cars...

When I was learning I used a cheat of laying pc board fiberglass along the weld to rest the outer shield on to gain muscle memory while I learned to keep the tip off the metal. As I learned I ended up stitch welding all the panels. It definitely strengthened the chassis. (72 Mach 1)

Astro pneumatic tool makes a really nice 8mm Punch/ Flange tool for that and it has a aluminum body , also come in a stander or piston grip. part number 608ST and 608PT about 75 dollar. I bought the harbor fright tool and didn't like the small 5mm size hold it made Astro has 8mm no need to use the step drill
