  • Disney World has not one but TWO restaurants that let you step back in time to all the nostalgia, and kitsch, of 1950s America. But be warned, these restaurants are NOT everyone’s favorite and one bad meal could have you wishing for a real time machine. Today we’re putting 50’s Prime Time Cafe and Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant head to head in a battle of the retro restaurants!

Not sure if this could happen because of Universal Orlando, but I would love for 50s Primetime Cafe to be rethemed to WandaVision. Have all of the servers be Westview characters and Wanda, Agatha, and Vision could visit your table

I feel like 50s Primetime is for extroverts and Sci-Fi is for introverts. I have extroverted friends who would love to joke around with their server and be treated like they’re around family. But personally, after a long day at a theme park, I just want to sit in the dark and talk to no one. Sci-Fi is perfect for that, plus the burgers and shakes are great.

As soon as I showed my husband the Sci Fi Theatre, he wanted to book a reservation and go. It was fun for us and our young daughter loved it (the food, the theatre screen, and the car table). We have never done the 50’s Prime Time Cafe since the food is heavy (meatloaf and fried chicken) and my daughter wouldn’t appreciate being scolded and told that our server was a family member. This place would be ideal for my father-in-law (who is a big joker and loves the 50’s era), but not for us.

I booked sci fi! Can't wait, never been. Going totally for the atmosphere and love burgers! The idea of a full fried chicken meal and getting yelled at during a sweaty busy HS long day doesn't appeal to my 18 yr old and I. Super excited!

Sci-Fi is our family favourite disney restaurant purely because of the theming - we're from the UK so 1950s America is even more alien to us and therefore more exciting. This July my sister and I will be going back and we intend to try 50s prime time for the first time so we are excited to compare. I'm a bit nervous for the servers because I have fluctuating social anxiety but my sister will be awesome with them so that'll be a fun watch.

Breedlove’s hate on 50’s Primetime SLAYED ME 🤣. I have never gotten to try Sci-Fi Dine In, but I love 50’s Primetime. The first time I went there, I was with my parents who grew up in the 50s. They felt right at home with the theming, and my dad had such a blast with the servers. I went again with friends years later, and my friends (all 20-somethings) weren’t fans at all. It bummed me out that no one wanted to go with the theming actually. I hope to go again one day and get to experience the restaurant in all its full fun

I ate at both places on my last trip, loved them both! I've been to 50s twice, but Sci-Fi once. I can't decide between either, because on one hand, 50's has that A-MOZ-ING PB & J Milkshake, and on the other, I LOVE Sci-Fi's atmosphere! I think both places have equally good food. Not the greatest ever, but either way, you'll have a memorable meal no matter what you choose! I'm not surprised that 50's won, but someone had to. Also, can we just admire the fact that Quincy got her Ogre-Vision Glasses? (RIP Shrek 4-D 2003-2022)

I like to eat at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theatre for the campy atmosphere. Not the best burger I’ve ever had but it’s good and better than some other locations on property. I also love the theming at 50s Prime Time, so I’ll pop into the Tune-In Lounge for a PB&J Milkshake… best of both worlds!

Although I don’t have as much contempt for Prime Time as Breedlove I will admit that one not so hot experience can keep you away.
On our first trip to Prime Time I had sun poisoning, I was sick as a dog and was in NO mood for any kind of snark. Unfortunately, my dad was all about it. I literally refused to speak to the server by the time our meal came.
Sci-Fi on the other hand I thought I would hate (went mostly bc my dad wanted to) and I LOVED it!!!
All in all, you never know what is gonna make your dreams come true. Try them all

Our family are HUGE fans of 50s prime time cafe. We love the food and the cast interaction is amazing. The peanut butter & jelly milk shake is a must have on every disney trip!
Sci Fi was not our best experience but that was because of the service. We saw our waitress to take our order and that was it until she brought the bill. Someone else brought out the food and we never could get a refill on drinks. It was way to dark for us too. It might be for some but not for us.

Quincy needs to take her Mom to 50"s. I had the meatloaf and I had some of my onion rings and PB&j shake. I like it. Told twice to get my elbows off the table which made me laugh. Sci-Fi was fun as well. Like watching campy movies while having lunch in a car!

I'm glad that I went to Sci-Fi a couple times, especially since I am a science fi fan, but the food was just meh and I feel no need to go back. I have been back several times to 50's and always enjoy the food, the tv shows and the snark. As an introvert, I was worried about going the first time but the cast members are good at reading people and only really keep torturing the people who like to be the center of attention. ;) I remember one time the waitress commented on how good an appetite my friend had when she not only cleaned her plate but did it in record time and held her up as an example to the other "kids"/diners in the room. She got so red and it was not from the Florida sun! So hilarious! :D

We went to 50’s prime time last march, the only thing good was the peanut butter milk shake. We did this one because of the reviews mostly on the fried chicken. I don’t know what everybody think it’s good. So bland, so hard. The worst of the worst. The server did’nt say anything about ou plate left full, he even gave us stickers that we finish our plate lol. I’m sure he knew what happens. We had a fun waiter so he had a good tip not his fault. At least it’s done will never go back. Never been to sci fi, never been able to get a reservation. Another restaurant that was highly recommend is the garden grill we went 3years, we all hate it, not our type of food. We love saana, and the 1900 park fare, yak and yeti, etc… but 50’s prime and Garden Grill no more

I prefer sci fi and my sister and I think they have the best burgers on property! 50’s prime time is not my fav. I don’t want meatloaf or pot roast on vacation, I don’t want to be in trouble for not eating all my food. Pass and go to sci fi!

  • @jenniferaustin7031

I'm pretty sure we have eaten at both. It's been years so forgive my rusty memory. But I don't actually remember eating at 50's but I definitely remember eating at Sci-Fi. So doesn't that kind of make it the winner in my book? Yes. Yes it does. I'm not going to Disney for the food, though of course that is a huge bonus and there are treats and meals that I absolutely love. I AM going to Disney to be blown away by the themeing and the atmosphere. They both have that in spades, but Sci-Fi is the winner for me
And I asked this on a previous comment before, but I am going to repeat myself. We are going to Disney first of June and I have a 10yo who wants to meet Pooh Bear. I would love it if you did an episode on meeting characters at Disney, especially since that is all changing mid-April. While Pooh Bear is a high priority for us, there may be other characters that other people really want to meet and I think we would all love to know how to navigate the changes in the parks! Thanks for everything you do on AllEars. Maybe we'll see you in the parks!

I was at SciFi just last week and it was just not worth it.
Ordered pasta, and it came with cheese that the menu does not say about! I couldn't even see it in the darkness but I could smell it.
Sure the server fixed it soon enough it but that ruined the entire meal for me even if the replacement tasted great.
And the service was so slow. We saw 2 full loops of the films and well into the third by the time we paid, and we didn't even get dessert.
I would never want to eat at 50s PrimeTime though with the atmosphere either.

I'm not a fan of either, I eat at HBD instead. 50s decor is cute and reminds me of when I was a child but the food is waaaaay too heavy for me. I'm not a fan of the CM interactions either, my granny nor my Mama ever made me eat all my food. Actually, I'm southern and a lady never eats everything on her plate and Mama and Granny were certainly better cooks so it doesn't remind me of home cooked food. Sci-Fi is cute and I loved the movies, we actually sat at a table since there were 3 of us and the tables work better and I was o.k. with that. The food was o.k. not great, not bad but o.k. It was a one and done for us, fun but not necessary.
