Just my own head canon at work here, but I think the deal Galante set up sums up to one thing: Vito and Joe must be separated, permanently. If you played Mafia 2, you know exactly how well Vito and Joe worked as a team, but unfortunately, that same teamwork also ended up riling the Triads and the Falcone family, since it cost them men and business. When Leo said "Joe wasn't part of the deal", I think it was a psychological ploy to get Vito to forget about Joe, mainly to drive a wedge between their friendship once Vito was exiled. Plus, with how easy it is to concoct false narratives and paper trails, Joe's status will never be truly known. That's how I see it, anyway.
Honestly, i think its the most logical thing. These two, together, are too dangerous. Vito is too smart and Joe is too brutal and got mad streets smarts. Splitting the two was the most logical thing to do.
Joe should have been exiled, he was the rowdy one. Vito was flexible and dependable in all things. Joe was the problem that’s why he should have been sent off and Vito kept to succeed. He was a natural bred leader, under him later the family could have reached heights Leo would have even thought astonishing.

Someone close to Vito would be in the area, tell Vito, then Vito will restart his investigation. And with the power and reach he has (Since for me, the canon ending is Vito at the top), it wont take him long to discover that not only he's alive but still working for Leo. And since Vito is really good bud with Joe, he'll do anything to get him out of that trash life, even if he has to get Leo pissed once more. He clearly dont like him anymore.

Nah the story is great, the map is great, it's just completely unpolished. Haven't played in awhile, but I bet the mirrors in the cars are still horribly unrendered, I just wish they put another 6 months into polishing/production. Would've made this a triple A title.

Family means everything to Vito so he would not abondon her and he wouldin't decide not to care what has happens to her.

I think Leo told Joe of the circumstances that he told Vito (the Chinese Mafia wanted them both dead). Joe probably worked under Leo with a new identity to protect Vito because of their friendship. It is not hard for Leo to create false narratives in front of Vito and have Vito's men give Vito false information.

I saw some discussions online and it’s likely that the Commission doesn’t want the both of them to be together because they’ll fuck shit up like they did on 2. Plus, it’s also likely that Joe would’ve been told by Leo that Vito’s dead too, thus he didn’t bother looking for him, or at least told that don’t go looking for Vito.
I like that 180 shift you see in Lincoln's face when Vito offers physical compensation with "make it worth your while," then tops it with it being considered a "personal favor." He knows old school mafioso's value that more than anything, or how valuable a personal favor from someone like Vito can be. Damn I forgot how good this game was sometimes.

When Lincoln asks Vito if he has any other relatives up in Empire Bay he probably thought of his sister Francesca but because of his actions they don’t talk anymore. It probably breaks his heart.
Vito have lived through a lot of stress between 1951 and 1968. He is 43 in 1968 but looks at least 10-15 years more than that! What puzzles me however is why Vito didn't decide to go to Chicago or anywhere else himself if he knew so many details about Joe's fate after the events of M2?
Fun fact there was going to be a DLC where you play as vito he goes back to empire bay to find something probably herd a rumor about a guy looks like Joe but it was scrapped same with a lot of other stuff lincoln having memories of Vietnam when he goes to sleep after the party at the beginning of the game

Joe was never in Chicago. Eddie Scarpa went to Chicago and got killed. Eddie was a former boxer which why he was able to put up such a fight. Vito only thought they were talking about Joe.

It's far-fetched that Vito never found out that Joey was not only alive, but also was working as a mobster in Empire Bay for Leo all that time. Also, the whole reason for Leo to make up this plot was also contrived and not really well-founded. I guess it was more of an out-of-universe device to end Mafia 2 in a cliffhanger and then try to piece things together in Mafia 3, in a completely different context. Out-of-universe it was not bad, but in-universe, this all feels a bit forced.
You know, i have no doubt that, Joe would've eventually found Vito.... especially if you played the game in such a way that Vito ends up running the city. But of course, i mean this would've happened after the cameras stopped rolling.

tbh i agree. i know they wanted to go in a different direction, but at least finish off from Mafia II. Mafia II was fucking amazing, and then you come to Mafia III and it's kinda like huh? i think they should have at least had some closure for the boys 😂😩

My best guess is that the Commission gave Joe a new identity, and told him they'd have Vito killed if he ever tried to contact him.
I saw some discussions online and it’s likely that the Commission doesn’t want the both of them to be together because they’ll fuck shit up like they did on 2. Plus, it’s also likely that Joe would’ve been told by Leo that Vito’s dead too, thus he didn’t bother looking for him, or at least told that don’t go looking for Vito.

I like that 180 shift you see in Lincoln's face when Vito offers physical compensation with "make it worth your while," then tops it with it being considered a "personal favor." He knows old school mafioso's value that more than anything, or how valuable a personal favor from someone like Vito can be. Damn I forgot how good this game was sometimes.

When Lincoln asks Vito if he has any other relatives up in Empire Bay he probably thought of his sister Francesca but because of his actions they don’t talk anymore. It probably breaks his heart.

I literally felt the same way, the ending to the game didnt have that impact I was hoping for. All of the mafia games always showed that the life looked good but in the end no matter what everything that seemed great started to bite them in the ass and the only ending that sorta does that is the one where father James plants a bomb in Lincolns car which even then is outta character for father James
Either way it doesn’t ruin the ending at it does have moral lesson at the end do you wanna leave all this behind and become the new boss of the city ? Or so you wanna leave and go and start a new life away from the life of crime basically be another sal marcano or leave with your dignity because you accomplished your goal at the end.
Leo probably saw a Mad Dogg he needs to train and keep on a leash that's why he probably didnt try to kill him the second time so his name is dead and he probably cant have any communication with Vito would make sense if that is him at the end also atleast joe knows by leo that Vito didnt try to double cross him he just wasnt part of the deal

It's far-fetched that Vito never found out that Joey was not only alive, but also was working as a mobster in Empire Bay for Leo all that time. Also, the whole reason for Leo to make up this plot was also contrived and not really well-founded. I guess it was more of an out-of-universe device to end Mafia 2 in a cliffhanger and then try to piece things together in Mafia 3, in a completely different context. Out-of-universe it was not bad, but in-universe, this all feels a bit forced.
