Slips Cola for a big dog you need their front paws on the ground. For a very small dog you should be okay to carefully hold them by their thighs

oh my goodness, your video just saved my dogs life. he got into a Christmas ham and had a chunk stuck in his throat. I obviously started to panic and smacking him on his back. He began to shake very badly and I could see him trying to cough but couldn't. I quickly Googled "small dog choking" watched a few seconds of the video and then held him upside down and shook him. a large corner of the ham came flying out.
thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!! He is a 10 pound Yorkiepoo named Yogi.

I saw this video as soon as I got my pupper, which was about a year ago, just to be prepared. And today it happened, he ate his food too quickly without even chewing it and started to choke badly!! I panicked for a micro-second but quickly got to action and performed what I remembered from this video on my dog.

I’m glad I was able to watch this easily, but grateful that I haven’t (yet) needed to use it. My little chi “Aria” was coughing/hacking no more than 15 minutes ago; as she was eating her dinner as she usually does & I guess a tiny bit of it caught in her oesophagus. She was scared & tried to hide from us at first, but my mum & I coaxed her out to her bed (which sits just beside mine). I gently massaged Aria’s little throat & patted her on the back/ribcage, whilst my mum brought over her water dish for her to take a drink & all of these combined actions seemed to help. Once she’d stopped trying to clear her throat, my little chihuahua licked both our hands, so I knew she’d realised that we were doing it to help her. We followed up by letting her outside for some fresh air & then she was back to being the happy little chi we know & love so much. I’m very thankful that I found this video, as it’ll surely help if Aria ever chokes for real. I also wouldn’t mind learning how to give “mouth-to-snout” (for dogs who aren’t breathing), because you just never know when you’re going to need to use that knowledge. I don’t care if the thought of rescue-breaths on a dog sounds “gross” … I’d do whatever it takes to ensure my sweet girl is safe; even if it results in getting pooped or peed on. I love her so much & she’s the daughter I could never have, so of course I’ll always do whatever it takes to save Aria’s life. 🥹💖🐕

Since my dog become pregnant i’ve notice she didn’t chew her food that much just swallowing it. Adding that she might afraid that our other dog might snatch her food. to her greediness, 2wks ago. My shih tsu choked. I tried the heimlich maneuver but it didn’t worked. Its already been 8minutes of struggling. while we were in the car going to vet, I decided i’ll try to get the food inside her as the final resort. When miraculously my hand reach on her throat, i felt a piece of a treat little bit bigger to the size of a quarter coin that was blocking her airway and got it out. So much thankful to God. As i was praying while doing that. He gave my dog a second life.

I just saved my little pug puppy. We only brought him into our family a month ago; he is my first dog. I didn't expect him to choke on his food. It was terrifying, and I acted on instinct, cleaning his mouth and pressing on his lungs. I didn’t understand how to apply this technique to a dog. By some miracle, after a minute of madness, I saved him. Then we sat silently in each other’s arms for two minutes. Now he is sleeping, and I’m watching this video and sending it to all my family members. Never leave your dog alone with food.

Thank you for noting to not put your finger in their mouth because 30 min ago my little pug was choking & I attempted to pull it out when he seized up & his jaw clamped down on my finger. It's something that another small dog choking video did not mention. I did instinctively held him in a downward position to try to jerk the lodged bully stick. Thankfully he is OK & was able to swallow it. My blood was everywhere but a small price knowing he's OK. Though I do wonder about doing the Heimlich and potentially causing the dog to vomit then that getting into the lungs which could lead to aspiration.

Just had to do this on a 5 week puppy. I heard mom calling for help and ran in. She was absolutely panicking and trying everything she could think of. She put her fingers in it's mouth and she was shaking it pretty hard which I told her to stop before she injured it. I took the puppy, tried the upside down thing and it didn't work, tried the stomach thing and it didn't work. Started rubbing at her sides hard and it didn't work. Rubbed her throat and I could feel the piece of food stuck far down.
What happened next I don't think we did right. Mind you, I already went through the steps and nothing was working. You could see her going limp and dying by this point. So here I was beginning to panic. So mom started massaging her throat while trying to move the piece up. By this point mom was about to throw in the towel towel said that was it.
I raised my voice at her to keep going because even though the breathing stopped, the brain could still function for awhile so we just has to keep trying to get it out. I took one large breath, put my mouth over it's nose and blew hard. I don't know if that was the right thing to do. I am sure I could have accidently done worse by pushing it further down her throat but since mom had the food under her fingers and was moving it around to get it to dislodge, I am sure the combination managed to pull it off.
The puppy came back to us after that somehow and looked like she had seen the light and her ancient wild ancestors.
Right now she is resting and we will be monitoring her all night. We can't afford a vet so this is the most we can do unless it becomes a serious emergency.
If there are any vets reading this, please tell me what more I could have done PROPERLY to dislodge the food. I was really scared to blow through her nose but I literally tried everything else calmly and when it didn't work I panicked.

@@FirstaidforlifeOrgUk1 It really was but we are beyond grateful to have her here still. She only has a few more days until she goes to her new home.
She doesn't seem to have suffered any lasting damage. She's running, playing, eating, and drinking normally. I just hope she's okay mentally because ever since the incident she has been a lot calmer. Still loving and a wagging tail but just calmer. She slept away from her siblings and whined for a little bit but then went right to sleep.
We joke that she saw the other side and is now somehow wiser after conversing with her earlier ancestors. I guess we are trying to make light of what was a horrifying situation.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I’m paranoid about my dog choking.
My dog is part dachshund, so she has VERY sensitive hips. She really hates to be grabbed around her hips or thighs. I can tell it causes her a lot of pain and discomfort. She easily becomes very aggressive, too.
I’m worried that I may make the situation worse if I try this. What do you suggest?

She was eating her food really fast and then she walked away from the bowl she was twitching and putting her paws on her face, and then she started this hiccup thing, it was like she couldn’t breathe, so I Shook her and did the compressions, Then out of nowhere she barked, so I think that meant she could breathe now.
