Gabby Garcia your dad may not have a real perspective on this. Does he know a monkey can live up to 30yrs ? Is your dad happy to build an outside enclosure like the one in this film ? What will you do when it reaches maturity, and becomes less of a baby and far more aggressive ?
Get yr dad to do lots of research on the net before spending thousands on something that doesn’t work for any of you !

@@GabbyGaRcIa_TripleG I'm addition to what Inspiral Mediums talked about there are some other major issue you and your dad should consider. Obviously you are school age so who is going to care for him while you are in school? He cannot be left alone during the time you are at school so someone would definitely have to be with him 24/7. The problem with getting one while you are so young is is it going to be your monkey or your parents? They live 25-35 years and during that time you will experience many major life changes... college, romantic relationships, working, possibly having children, moving out on your own etc. Not to mention all the unexpected things life throws at us. Do you think you are going to still be able to provide around the clock care and attention through all of that? Some of those other things will definitely take priority over a pet and you someone has to be responsible for a monkey all that time. You will feel differently when those things arise...it's like being tied down with a 2 year old that will never grow up for the next 30 years! That's a lot of poop diapers to change. Even if you are 10 or 12 years old a monkey will live until you are 40 or 46 years old...

@@GabbyGaRcIa_TripleG monkeys also cost a lot to buy... anywhere from $3500-$12,000 ...not to include extremely hi vet bills, food, enclosures, toys, enrichment, diapers, etc. Do you even live somewhere that it is legal? Where do you live?

Thank you for this video!!! I know how important it is to know everything you can before getting an exotic pet. I have an Umbrella Cockatoo Parrot and I give the same advice to people who say they want to get one for themselves. I usually say "No you don't" and then tell them what they will be required to do to keep the bird healthy and happy (and Cockatoos can live 60 - 80 years) It's a full-time job for the rest of your life these animals are extremely smart (just like monkeys) and need attention 4 -6 hours a day. if they don't get it They will scream (they can wake the dead) they destroy everything that means anything to you and or hurt themselves or get sick. That being said they are also very affectionate and will bond with you for life ........anyway I just think it very good advice that you have given, I agree with everything you said .

Chico the monkey - I appreciate your video and explaining that monkeys can be good pets as well as not. I had a squirrel monkey when I was a pre-teen. Chi-Chi was amazingly smart but could be a handful. I enjoyed her for the short time that I had her. One evening, she was making a lot of noise so I took her and her cage and put it in a different room. I didn't notice that the house window was open and sadly, she developed the flu. The vet couldn't do much for her. I tried to nurse her back to health to no success. Looking back, I realized that even though she was cute and fun to play with, she was not a pet for me. gnawing cables, stealing milk by poking a hole into the can, destroy my clothes in the cabinet, building nests in the magazine holder, carry everything halfway palatable to a bunker spot, throw everything on the floor thats not glued, rip the tapestry off the walls..... I want to address your last comment. You said Pete, the owner of MonkeyBoo "knew what he was talking about" and "dedicated his entire life to Capuchins" that is ABSOLUTELY not true. There is a group of us on RUclips who are dedicated to animal conservation and Pete is one of the worst people I have ever encountered online..... For one he is completely ignorant and insists Boo isn't a wild animal, he had Boo neutered and had his canines removed, which is trying to make him something he isn't......He has attacked me, Gozer, and gets his "fans" to gang up on people who don't agree with monkeys being pets. The worst part is he constantly slanders my friend Kari Bagnall the founder of Jungle Friends......if you want to meet someone who has dedicated her life to saving monkeys this is the a prime example of that. She gave up a career as a successful interior designer and now runs the largest New World Monkey Sanctuary in North America, while living in a small trailer on site. Pete sells Boos "drawings" and anything he can to make money off Boo.
The only people who "do it right" are the ones, like Kari, who let them be monkeys.

@@jamiebracy2908 FWIW, it is legal to own a primate where she lives. I think that part of the issue was that the apartment complex didn't know about Max and probably took issue with them having a monkey. I don't know that for sure, but from what she said in a couple of vids I would bet that was a contributing factor. She most likely also didn't have a license to own him. I saw a lot of issues. Wanting a pet monkey is fine, but owning one and taking care of it for the rest of its life is something completely different, and often time new owners are shocked by the amount of time and care it takes - as well as money - to raise one. As a result, sadly, these end up being neglected and abused, until they're either killed or released into the public. It's a commitment that should be researched FULLY before purchasing one. Monkeys are not a dog or a cat. I saw a monkey that was bored and looking to get into a lot of stuff.
I'm concerned about their moving, probably thinking it will go better in the new state, but once again, I have a sinking feeling that things won't be any better for this new squirrel monkey she wants to get and has put a deposit on. I think there was a lot more going on behind the scenes than any of us realized.

Monkeys, no matter the flavor can be taught to not bite, it just has to be done when they are tiny babies.
As for the disagreeable behavior. Well of course if you let it run loose, the same is true for a human child!
If you want a well mannered monkey, it must be on a 6 foot long leash attached to you or some other human, at all times when it is out of its cage. Monkeys learn by imitation and unless they are right with you, they can't see what you do and imitate you.

Hey, it's my dream to be able to have my own sanctuary of multiple exotic animals. And i am totally willing to give up my entire life to take care of them but i need money to do so. So i was just wondering, how would i be able to get the money without having to get a job that forces me to stay long periods of time away from the animals??

Thank you ❤very, very informative! Your video was recommended by Lillan the monkey🐒 ✨💗 You are
A wonderful animal advocate & lover, It's easy to see!
Some find it very challenging to care for a dog 🐶 let
Alone a 🐵. Cuteness overload should never be a
Reason to want any pet! I consider them human & it's
Also sad when a person gets one and then abandons
Their COMMITMENT!!! They have feelings💘 & same
DNA as we do! A permanent child is what you get! I'd
Love one but definitely lack the time. Monkey's get
Bored easily & I'd like to give them all they need too so
They are assured the best life financially & (//_^)
Emotionally, physically and mentally! ❤ much ❤

You can't get rid of their wild instincts, and you took him away from everything he instinctively expects to have--mating, living in a troop, fighting for dominance, foraging, running and jumping through the trees. It's cruel beyond description.

You got to emotion. Little is correct but most is baseless.
Check youtube wild monkeys what they go through day in day out.
Why do u think they live longer in captivety.
As long as they are kept correct and not taken from wild its fine.
      Or ban all zoos.
What about when they use them for labs .
      But respect your view.

Monkeys are wild. You cannot train that out of them. They would be happier living 5 years in the wild than 10 in captivity. Most zoos give them large enclosures and little actual contact with humans.
And where do you think your monkey came from if not the wild? Somewhere down the line, and not very far either, a poacher murdered a mother monkey and took her baby away, traumatizing it.

They’re so adorable, but I don’t think they should ever be pets. They are very intelligent and have a lot of the same actions and feelings that humans have, but they are not humans! They are wild animals & should be left in the wild! There are many reasons why we shouldn’t have them as pets, but I believe the main reason is, because of the explosion of the monkey trade! They (poachers) hunt down these innocent creatures & rip the babies from their mothers to sell online, & then sell the mothers to research labs where most of them live a slow & agonizing death. Or maybe forced to work on a coconut farm. They beat them & keep them on chains & force them to climb up the trees to pick the coconuts, & then make them jump from tree to tree, which is very dangerous for them. They’re also used as entertainment, like street performing. They force them to learn to walk like humans, by keeping them chained in a standing position, with their feet barely touching the ground & their hands tied behind their back. They’re being hung like this for countless hours a every day until they are broken, and will do anything to keep from being tortured . And that’s just the beginning of their miserable life as a slave for mans greed! They’re being used in so many other horrible evil ways, and a lot of people don’t realize they are supporting these sick & twisted things. This has just got to stop! Please help to make the abuse of these beautiful animals stop! Don’t buy them, or support them in any way. Help make this known to everyone you can! Speak out & report it when you see it!

It does not matter what advice you give, people still kidnap them and sell them. These kind of squirrel monkey's you can find only in South America and my heart breaks thinking about how they are separated from their families. They do not belong in a cage and you put him in a cage.

When I was a kid, you could mail-order a squirrel monkey for $19.95 from an ads in comic books. The ads were shamelessly misleading:
    www.cbc.ca/radio/undertheinfluence/mail-order-monkeys-other-crazy-comic-book-ads-1.4536179
It's a good thing $19.95 was a lot of money for a kid back then. There are some hilarious stories on the internet about kids that ordered them. The "free cage" was just a tiny box with a mesh window and the animals would arrive in a terrorized state.
