Love this grass roots boxing coach.. He really does want fighter s to get better..he's helped me out in am email...appreciate it...no matter what level. You'll learn something from him
sir I am an amateur boxer and I have really big dreams but my country is not having any good boxing gym. sir your videos helped a lot of aspiring boxers like me because you cover the detailed aspects which others don't do. god bless you sir
Didn't expect much from these videos but the few I've watched have proved to be gold. You evidently know what you're talking about and, although I believe there is a limit to the usefulness of RUclips in learning to box, these videos are as good as they get on RUclips.
Yes, I use this all the time in SD context. I tend to use the belt-line and to start with left hand only. I'll vary up with either attackers or defenders being armed with a swim noodle beating stick to add the element of cover as well as evasion and parrying from the tagging hand. It's surprising how much this exercise will teach/reveal to novices about combative movement.
From my experience, the shoulders version in an orthodox-southpaw pair is very safe, since both people's shoulder with which the jab is used is right across each other, so there is no need to for some reason have the hand go anywhere near the head, but in reality you're trying to "circle around" or go above the opponent's hand.
This is a great drill I've done it many times in my classes. I like to have my students keep their hands up to their face and have their hands next to their eyes like blinders for a horse so they don't get poked in the eyes.
That's good stuff mate. I like it, I have trained in many boxing clubs - first time I have come across it. We are always learning. P.s. love the scouse accent. Cheers fella.
never done it using the thigh - we've always used the body and the shoulders but i'm going to try that one this Weds with the boxers - see how they like your version mate- nice drill !
Cheers mate. We use the shoulder with the more experienced lads - the risk of fingers in the eye seems to happen more than I'd like with the less experienced ones! I guess gloves may help with that :-)
you and I are thinking of so many of the same things . I really wish you were in philidelphia or New York sometime, beCause I can only imagine the ideas we could come up with at the same time. I was doing another version of this for about the last 6 months so.but I think it's is more effective. Great work love your channel. keep up the good work. one of my favorite messages you ever put out I still play to our fighters and they still don't get it, about sparring is supposed to be constructive not destructive. There so tense and want to look good so bad they never try new things and they never improve the amount they should
My man! always puttin out that killer content. good job from your boxer to, the mans got nice form for demonstration. should warn em about that posture though, rolled forward and inward shoulders add so much extra shoulder strain, last thing any boxer needs.
Thanks so much for all this top quality, straight to the point content. A question about this exercise - what about trying to tap the ribs/abdomen instead of the thigh? Would that not be more realistic?
Thanks JT. Yes, they are good targets too. The thigh is nice and safe and if you can get down to the thigh nice and quickly then the abdomen would be easier...if that makes sense.
When this activity is done fast there is more risk of hitting the other person. Also, as the hands are open there is a risk of poking the eye with fingers. Should bag or boxing gloves be worn for this drill???
Just caught your channel fantastic ,I'm not a boxer ,just did a bit when I was younger , at the age of 63 I still like to keep in shape had a serious operation few months ago ,not heart related , and am slowly trying to get back to fitness will be watching more of your stuff you inspired me to get on the bag again atb from North wales
I notice you both are only using your left hands (or jabbing hands). Can you use right hands as well? Also, is there any reason you cannot change the target area to the torso or belly (instead of the shoulder and thigh)?
Its a myth thinking tall fighters need to stand tall to utilize reach. If you are tall and crouch you can explode and uncoil like a spring. The reach advantage still exists. Preferable to me. Takes away opponents confidence that comes from viewing you as a tree that needs to be chopped. Tysons opponents were great examples of chopped trees, aside from Lennox Lewis(who i highly doubt could beat Tyson in his prime, and i believe fought him post Cus's passing)
I'm from Liverpool Christian - but our accent is heavily influenced by the Irish accent because of a huge migration of Irish people to the city in the 1800's - very proud of my Irish roots :-)
Young boxers should use your videos in conjunction with attending a gym and getting regular feedback from a coach so that they are not unknowingly cementing bad habits.
Its entirely optional. But since the purposes of the exercise are to work on timing and range, you will probably use more isolated lead hand strikes than combos. The jab usually controls distance.
maururu ( thank you ) coach Fran for the beginner boxer toolkit , my dream to be a student with the growth mindset, i'm not a pro boxer , but i love boxing , if you read this thank you !!!!
hello friend greetings from Ecuador I follow your channel on youtube and I do not miss a video of you I do not understand English would be good to get a channel in Castilian

Legs, shoulder and also fot hit fot om my club

@@AbitCoD do a tigh chest /thigh /stomach very useful
I love this guy! So much great Info, simple and effective
We use these a lot in our MMA training, works great! We also add the knee tap as a simulation of a takedown attempt.
What are knee taps?
If u touch your partners knee its simulating a takedown
Another great drill. Fun and easy to explain. Even a Monty Python reference! All the best from Canada.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Hints and tips. Top coach.
A very good drill.thanks.
Not better to do this with gloves on to prevent the pokes in the eye?
I was thinking the same thing.
Do you have any videos on throwing an overhand right. Particularly, I'm interested in the mechanics. Thank you, your an excellent instructor!

@Fran Sands safe in the sense of not hurting/winding your partner?

Cheers Sean. Yes, I tend to get them to focus on the thigh, eye pokes are definitely a thing when going for the shoulder.
