- This is a edit of my vision of the perfect Gohan goes SSJ2 video. It is English dubbed with the Bruce Faulconer music + the epic Japanese song "Unmei no Hi -Tamashii VS Tamashii". I also removed the American version of his scream and replaced it with the Japanese one and also removed his inner dialogue speech, I felt his rage was best displayed like the Japanese version showed it which was the silence before the storm!
I have wanted to put this together for years and finally accomplished it today. This is also my first attempt at video/audio editing, it's still not as perfect as I would like it to be but I'm happy with it none the less.
I'll never forget watching this scene growing up, it still gives me chills to this day... I hope you all enjoy!

Earlier in this clip, too. “Yet another fighter… you could have saved.” One of the most ice-cold lines in the series. Dub had a lot of great dialogue .
Man, i love falconers music, but for original ssj2 transformation, Unmei no hi had to be used; there's simply no contest.

@@haloboyvash I actually thought Gohan's inner monologue got across his guilt over 16 dying being his fault. I wish you had left that in with the song in the background. The song being front & center distracts from that point IMO.
Add in that inner monologue w/ the song in the background. And THIS would be my ideal version of that scene.
@@nygma619 Personally I rather no Inner monologue as it feels like him just snapping, and losing control while the dub had too much waning and waxing, but either way the dub will ALWAYS be worse with all the extra scenes of him powering up and just extra anime only filler. I don't mind occasionally, but not extremely important scenes. It's like adding extra scene when Goku turned SS1.

I've never watched Dragon Ball Z in Japanese, I grew up with the English Dubbed version......but damn that sent chills down my spine when that theme played. Good work! :)

Honest confession: I only liked a couple of the songs on the english version, this video here shows what the Zenith of Dragonball Z shouldve been. One of the best scenes in Millenial Anime history

It sure is, I really wished they had kept it this way for the English version. I understand why they didn't but I feel this captures the true essence of his transformation. The whole English monologue Gohan does in his head just feels unnecessary and ruins the moment in my opinion. The Japanese version had it right, from calm silent Gohan to pure screaming rage. I get chills every time with that music and that scream, then cut to Gohan's face and the tears running... man you can't get much better than that!

Why do i feel that u played that msuic from somewhere else and the speakers arent in sync coz one is ahead in sound.
Goku - I had to layer the song over top of the English/Japanese version of the Blu-ray edition. Certain parts had to be muted and cut to remove Gohan’s inner dialogue which I always hated. I couldn’t get the sync 100% perfect but it was the best I could do at that time.

Dude you put the best parts of both dub and sub, it works phenomenally well.
Bruce falconer had alot of good ost but it doesn't transition so smoothly as the japanese version.
16 peaceful ost was great, but when cell walked towards him it fucked it all up.
I'm really looking forward to any vegeta ost, if you haven't done so already. I Love me Some piano.

this version, the japanese footage & music with english dub is something I hope is NEVER taken off of youtube, the work you did on this is amazing, everything lines up PERFECTLY and is something i've always wanted to see, good job dude.
Thanks so much for the support! It was a labor of love, I had never mixed soundtracks and video tracks together before. While I know it’s not completely perfect at least for me, I know I tried the best I could to get it close. There is some small reverb in the music that I just couldn’t get synced up at the time but either way I still get chills every time I watch this and Gohan roars!
@@haloboyvash the fact their's reverb suggests to me that other than maybe making the audio a little clearer and more pronounced you didn't tamper with the audio. For example when cell see's the head on the floor and goes "WHAT?!" There is meant to be an echo i understand why but i always hated it being there. So to me as someone who picks up on these small things you did a genuinely great job with the files and footage at your disposal it maybe a labour of love but to think you wanted to see it a certain way and made it real, i have always wanted to see it the same way so to me, In my humble opinion you have done a truly great job.

@@badgerman6666 Thank you for the appreciation and I’m so glad I was able to put together a vision of something I always wanted to see and you too were able to see it as well. I did in fact use all original audio sources by combining the Japanese and English audio tracks while trying to subtly lay the actual Tamashii VS Tamashii track over it to make everything work.
It still boggles my mind that even with all the dragon boxes and different Blu-ray releases that we either get the Japanese audio or the English audio with Gohan’s inner monologue and extremely underwhelming scream. The Japanese version with the inner silence that erupts into a roar is just incredible, all the emotions just erupt in pure fury and after it has happened Gohan just stands there silent and tears still flowing down his face, he knows what he has become and he knows now what he must do. I truly miss this version of Gohan, I wished it could have followed him throughout the series but it wasn’t Toriyamas vision. Never the less we have this scene and for me even tho Gohan isn’t my favorite character I would almost say it’s the most memorable scene for me of all.
@@haloboyvash i couldn't agree more or said it better myself i like this arch with gohan because you have to see it from goku's perspective, its his son who he's literally died to protect not only did he train him to go SSJ but he had to help him learn to let go of his moral restraints and just beat someone down into dust, cell being superior to freeza was in a sense goku training his son to surpass him, a truly great mark of a father and son relationship, coming of age, learning inner strength. This whole are was epic boiling down to that final battle, thats what made DBZ so great, simply because it was following the personal growth and challenges of people through the story

Remember when you didn't just have to raise your ki or feel a tingle in your back to ascend. Also remember when these transformations were so hype. When Goku and Vegeta when Super Saiyan blue from just training, it was the most crappiest thing. I expected Goku to already have the form but later on someone from Vegeta's family gets injured or dies and he transforms.
Oh that's what song this is. Yeah, I love Faulconer but this version is just too fucking good. My only complaint is the song version: it's too much echo. TFS's version had (what I think was) the perfect version of the song.
The problem was, I was very new to editing and still am, but the only way I could mix it was to use the actual song soundtrack and mix it over a lowered volume of the different dubs, so you hear some of that echo and reverb because the sounds are out of sync by milliseconds that I just couldn’t get adjusted right.
It’s not perfect and definitely not the way I wanted it, but it’s close. I’ve always wanted to go back and try again but I’ve been pretty content with this.

The japanese version is able to produce the amount of feels into this character to make us feel the pain as well. but the dub it just One of those thing which lacks it.
I always felt Gohan's inner monologue justified the appearance of that stupid bird better than the song did. Not to mention it selling Gohan's guilt over 16's death being his fault.

Really good job combining the 2 soundtracks, and keeping maximum impact for the transformation, 16's speach is pivotal to understanding why Gohan finally allowed the power to come through. Lots of other versions of this scene dont have the impact you kept. Namaste

Shouldn’t have used Japanese Gohan’s scream, it’s supposed to be dub voices with Japanese OST. Still a good edit, otherwise.
The original Japanese song used for this is better than the English dub but I think people say they prefer the English one because of the music that plays after this episode like when it shows him still transforming into ssj2 that song is badass. Because the English version of this barely had music and it wasn’t all that but after this the music is good.

Android 16’s speech is very deep for Anime it’s almost like something you’d see in a drama (a good drama) ☝️ that combined with the Japanese transformation theme music makes this already epic scene even more EPIC !! 😌🙌 easily a top 5 anime moment of all time

Why? As bad as the Garlic Jr saga is. It actually showed Gohan's rage being effective in defeating enemies, & saving people. Something the original Canon failed to portray
You realize that if Gohan did rage boust against 3rd form Frieza Piccolo would've died. If not against second form everyone would've died before Piccolo arrived.

I just watched that out of curiosity and I don't agree at all. Mine is source material and the other is a fan-based parody. I like the source material of this scene better regardless if I made it or not, so I don't see any way you could compare the two.

HoboPlayz I grew up with Bruce Faulconer music in DBZ, it will always be great to me but after hearing the Japanese music throughout the whole series I prefer it much more and especially so with this song... It captures the moment so much better.

I wish you would've left in Gohan's inner monologue w/ the song in the background. IMO Gohan's thoughts get across his guilt that he feels for 16 (a robot who despite his origin, loved life) dying & feeling responsible for it being the catalyst for pushing him over the edge.
But this is close to my ideal version of that scene. A cross between the original & funimation's dub.
As I replied in a comment above, the inner dialogue doesn’t convey nearly as much as the silence and eruption of rage does. Refer to Gokus original SSJ transformation when Krillin gets killed. No inner dialogue, no thought process, just sheer rage and that’s the catalyst to ascend.
@@haloboyvash the song being at the forefront clashes with "the silence" if that's what it is going for. Also the bird always felt out of place IMO without Gohan's inner monologue of guilt of 16 dying and the bird representing 16's love for life from Gohan's p.o.v.
Do you literally have to hear his inner monologue to know what he is feeling? It’s expressed all over his face with his silence and his tears. The fury finally takes over and he is no longer held back.
The Japanese did it best, maybe the inner dialogue is needed for a younger generation but even when I was young and saw it with English subs it was perfect and sent chills through me. When I watched the American version on toonami I didn’t feel the same effect.
The fury and rage the Japanese like to convey also is in the roar when they transform, Even Goku did the same when he transformed. The Japanese have a deep roaring sound along with the actors voice to convey the animal/oozaru side of the Saiyans, it sounds much more powerful and primal than the English dub. There isn’t any thought process behind it, no monologue just a primal rage that forces the Saiyan to ascend.
I made this version particularly for myself, it embodies everything I love from the original Japanese series but with the English voices I grew up with watching after school. I’m not going to convince you to change how you feel as you are not going to convince me to change either.
The best scenario is to try and make one for yourself to show your passion in your own way. Then you can share it with the world and take delight in others that feel the same as you.

Like I said. Gohan's inner monologue has been the only adaptation that justifies THAT STUPID BIRD flying in front of his face. Without the bird symbolizing Gohan's thoughts of 16s love for life, there is literally NO DAMN REASON that 🐦 needs to be there.
nygma619 I’m sorry you have the need to hear redundancy in order to understand this scene. The monologue is totally not needed whatsoever and is overly redundant. If you can’t tell how Gohan feels by watching the original Japanese version then that’s a personal problem.
Try looking up the Japanese song lyrics, they knew what they were doing when they created the scene and they did it right the first time.
I have nothing more to add, if you want it differently then create your own version instead of complaining about the version I created for myself.
This is okay but the Faulconer music is just way way more intense personally and brings out more emotion for me.

Bryin Williamson Lmao did you even listen to the Japanese theme? It definetely had more feeling than the Bruce Faulconer one. Faulconer is very repetetive and it gets boring, but this theme isn't fucking boring and it brings more excitement to the transformation.
