correct, home team pitches first (top of the inning) and bats second (bottom of inning)
yup, home team advantage, lets you bat last
Why do I like this so much?!
@@willcress7048baseball is like football in term of history for Americans
Deep history
This is also why, with regard to American sports at least, the home team's score is listed below or to the right of the visitors' score on television graphics, internet box scores, etc. A quick way to tell who's home and who's away is by looking at the score order. I believe this applies to nearly all major US sports, with roots all tied to baseball.
Just some information on Bryce Harper:
He was on the cover of Sports Illustrated at 15 years old & was considered the LeBron James of baseball.
He was 19 years old when he came up with the Washington Nationals. He MVP in 2015 at 23 years old but still considered overrated. He was a hothead, too.
Became a free agent in 2019 & signed with the Phillies for 13 years, $330 million! His new Phillies jersey sold more in 3 days than ANY other athlete, in any other sport, in a 3 day span - beating LeBron James.
I think early on he was a little overrated but he also started out as a catcher. But he's developed and only gotten better where he's a no doubt superstar now.
Worth every penny
@@marks5757 "overrated" bro he's literally the youngest unanimous MVP ever in MLB
@@Schubes5 lets see here, that was his only year ever hitting 40 homers..he hadnt hit more 22 in a year before 2015 and then he didnt hit 30 hr for another two seasons. I didnt say he is overrated now but in the beginning he hadnt even topped 59 RBI until the MVP year. So yea hitting .270 with less than 60 rbi and less than 150 hits...come on
If you’re trying to get into baseball you’re watching the right team! This Phillies team is something else
I've been a diehard Phillies fan since 1974. These 8 p.m. EST games are brutal for us. I have been at Citizen's Park (and Veterans' Stadium for the Phillies' 1980 World Champions); the environment is different, but being at home is different. The atmosphere at Citizen's Park is AMAZING!!! and you aren't tired when you pull into the parking lot to start tailgating before the game.
Being up before 6 a.m. for work, working all day, and the game starting at 8:00 was brutal. I was asleep on the couch before the 4th inning. I didn't know who won until the morning. At least I got to see the first four innings before falling asleep.
HAPPY 31st Birthday Bryce Harper!!!! You had a great game --- the entire team did!
We love our Phillies!!!!!
Love the phillie phanatic
So cool you're embracing baseball. I'll be in London for the Phillies game next year. Cheers!
Yep, home team always pitches first, meaning they have the chance to bat last, giving them the opportunity to potentially win in walk-off fashion, or not bat at all in the bottom of the 9th inning if they are already ahead. That is the rulebook-based part of 'home field advantage', fans seemingly being another big part of this for Philly: volume readings during Harper's first inning home run registered at 111 decibels, about as loud as a running chainsaw around a meter away from you.
I'm from Philly I've been watching baseball since I was a kid and I'll be 58 thanks for watching the home team that will be us takes the field first and goes to bat last. If we need it and we're going to win it this year
1st time here. I subscribed. I live in Houston, but born and raised in Philly. I'd like to see a rematch from last year. That would be fun. There's a lot to learn in baseball.
"What was the ump watching" is a phrase used by every fan of baseball. But with explatives.
The Phillie players in the dugout flailing their hands after a big hit means “You/I have big balls”. It is something that was taken from the comedy movie “Major League”. Worth a watch
the saying in the 80's at least in the high school level was " let your nuts hang "
Away team bats first! Love you guys! Cheers from Philadelphia
In my humble opinion there is nothing harder in sport than hitting a baseball.
Deion Sanders agrees
Throwing a 9 dart finish in darts 😂😂
@@officeblokedaz
Dartboard never moves
There’s many more variables into hitting a baseball
The size of the ball and the size of the bat are not as large as I think they are
You have a giant honed elite athlete, throwing a baseball at you at variable speeds and angles
Weather conditions, lighting conditions, and a home crowd going nuts at ya
They should show more scenes of the fans and crowds. That is where you can see the true passion, emotion, and joy of the games.
Wish I could post a video clip of what's it *actually* like in the park...no other stadium like it
Go Phils!!
Agreed. They never show enough footage of the fans/crowd.
Glad you guys are checking out baseball btw
Home team always pitches first. Also the throw by dominguez that went into the outfield, pitchers aren't used to throwing the ball when they aren't pitching. So the release point when throwing a 95mph fastball or 85 mph sliders is different from trying to just throw it normally. Thats why that happens sometimes.
He threw to where the 2nd baseman was instead of where he was going to be. Release point has nothing to do with it.
@@riddikk187 you have no idea what you're talking about sorry.
@@toxicmoldmedia That's funny coming from the person who said this...
"pitchers aren't used to throwing the ball when they aren't pitching"
Pitchers start their warmup by just throwing the ball normally genius. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@riddikk187 No. Pitchers would never throw it to where he was as he is running. He knows he has to throw it to the bag. Samething happened to Strider game 1 vs the braves. Its release point.
@@riddikk187 man your logic is so derailed you have to be trolling. They have to warm up their arm of course. Coming from throwing consecutive 80-100 mph "pitches", having to throw a regular throw could be off. I'm a pitcher it happened to me.
I wish I could enjoy these games like you guys can. For me as a Phillies fan, it's nothing but stress for 9 innings.
Castellanos’s 5th HR in his last 8 at bats!
Another thing about the home team batting 2nd; if theyre up at the middle of the 9th, they dont have to bat..
Pretty obvious once you see it happen but not something new fans think about alot.
Baseball probably has the biggest home field advantage because of last bat
Get ready for game 2!! It's gonna be INSANE!!
That celebration the Phils do, like when Turner hit his double, is in homage to Pedro Cerrano from the baseball movies, Major League and Major League II. He was their big quirky power hitter who practiced voodoo. They’re comedies and if you haven’t seen them, I recommend both, especially if you’re getting back into baseball. It’s about a Cleveland team, made up of a cast of flaky young players snd old washed up players on a team that has been terrible for years and the owner needs them to have one more losing season so she can get rid of the team. But… anyhow, definitely worth a watch for some laughs and a good story to boot. On another note, I highly recommend The Natural, a much different type of baseball movie starring Robert Redford, Glenn Close, Kim Basinger, and Barbara Hershey. Great film, inspirational, and a good redemption story. All three movies show so e of the magical qualities of baseball and a few of the many superstitions that baseball players are known for embracing. Really enjoy your RUclips shows and to the son I say, drop the boring Astros and join Phillie Nation! Go Phils!!!
Major League movies are classics. I quote "You have no marbles" all the time. When the Phills started doing the gesture, I couldn't stop laughing.
to add on the the movie list: Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, and For Love of the Game.
@@nadjasunflower1387 Great additions!!!
As a Phillies fan, I love watching you guys react! I was at 2 games already this postseason and it was absolutely unbelievable!! Cheers!
You guys should watch the Phillie Phanatic’s highlights on RUclips. He’s an absolute treasure.
Umpires usually go by the sound of a play, just as much as sight. For example: the sound of a ball hitting inside the glove before foot on the base. It gets a lot more tougher when you’re in a deafening atmosphere.
Away team bats first, it allows the home team to get the last bat in the 9th inning if they are losing
I played pro ball for 4 years (& played with Nick Castellanos in high school) .. when you are home team, you play field first & will hit 2nd. they do this because in the event the game is tied or if the home team is losing, if they come back and win the game in the last inning its called a walk off which leads into an on field melee celebration and the fans go nuts.
Come on Daz…fess up! You looked up betting odds.
I didn’t. Aidan will confirm I’m off the betting for the moment. Lost a bit of interest. Will be back 😂
@@officeblokedaz Ok, I somehow believe you ! 🤨 Really enjoy all of the videos !!
BTW..I’m for the Phillies !
Love to see you guys enjoing MLB.. i definitely watch alot of EPL, my favorite sport
Arizona Diamondbacks are one of the newest expansion franchises, with the Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays, in 1998. They won their first World Series in 2001 (right after 9/11) against the Yankees.
Game 7 also. 😏
@@stevennieto9898
And that same year we won the WS, Randy Johnson accidentally hit that bird that flew in front of his pitch earlier that year. Zac Gallen this year, accidentally hit a bird that flew in front of his pitch. Also, just saying.
The home team always pitches first so that they can hit last
🔔🔴LET'S GO PHILLIES!🔴🔔
Back when baseball was called town ball, in the 1800s, a coin toss was used to determine who hits or fields first. Since then, it evolved to just the visiting team batting first, as a courtesy, like a guest in the home team's house. But the home team can get the last laugh if behind on runs, they go to a bottom of the 3rd if necessary. Cheers.
No matter what sport it is, whenever you see "Team A vs Team B", it also means "Team A at Team B". This means Team A is the visiting team and Team B is the home team. You'll also notice that on the scoreboard, the home team is always listed at the bottom under the visiting team. In baseball, the home team ALWAYS bats last in the bottom of the inning. The reason a visiting team can never have a "walk off" hit to win a game is because they don't bat in the bottom of the inning (9th). It's easy to understand if you look at it like a gentleman. In other words, if you invited a guest/visitor to your home for dinner, you would serve them first (top of the inning).
Game 2 tonight. Let’s go!!!!!!!
❤⚾️🤍Nice job as usual guys. And Aidan, for wearing that stupid hat, this is for you, a great big Philly BOOOOOOO! Hope you can hear it across the pond & GO PHILS❤⚾️🤍
home team gets "last ups" meaning they will bat bottom of the 9th meaning they do pitch first
Yogi Berra said, They give you a round piece of wood, and expect you to hit a ball with it. Easiest game to learn, hardest one to play
Back in the old days teams used to use pitchers on shorter rest but now the norm is 4 days off between starts. The Phillies actually went to a six-man rotation for a couple months to give them even more rest. You're right in wondering why guys don't come in in relief though, they do have bullpen sessions and in my opinion would be fine to pitch in a real game instead.
Been waiting all day for this react
Not sure if you will do a reaction of the ALCS game 2 but the Astros pitcher also threw the ball away when throwing to a base. Oddly enough some pitchers have a real difficult time making that throw.
Supposedly it's due to being on the front side of the pitching mound and the throw is uphill?
FYI home team always bats second...I usually remember it by thinking walk offs can only happen for the home team.
Home team is always on defense at the top half of the inning, on offense the bottom half. This way, the home team always has the last opportunity to score if they're down going to the bottom of the 9th.
Yes.. Home team always pitches in the top half and bats in the bottom half of the inning.
The celebration thing they do that looks like juggling is from the movie Major League 2. Look it up. Lol.
Good job guys. Great react video.
Home team always pitches first.
Fun fact, they won’t play the bottom of the ninth inning if the home team is winning as it isn’t necessary
home teams bats second during the "bottom" of the inning, away team bats first during the "top" of the inning
Visiting team always bats first(top of the inning)
6:30 “What’s that?”
It’s a reference to male anatomy. The Phillies are indicating they’d have a hard time sitting cross legged.
The reason that the dbacks and Phillies haven’t faced each other before in the postseason is because the diamondbacks are technically an expansion team. They were the most recent team added to the MLB. Not much time to face people in playoffs.
The hand gestures from the Phillies players is supposed to be them cupping their balls and is used an a hand expression of that person having big balls.
Underestimate the Astros at your own peril.....I'm a Yankee fan 😮
Home team pitches first, and if they have lead after pitching in 9th innings game is over
Correct. The home team bats last, that way they have an opportunity to come back to win it with a walk-off like the Phightins!!!
a lot of pitchers can't throw uphill like that from the mound to second its a incline compared to throwing to home plate its downhill.
home bats 2nd(give chance to make a comeback.. home field advantage)
lifelong snakes fan. we gettin the pipe right now
Tell your Dad "Go Stros!!!"
Home pitch first so you have last bat
Home team always pitches first and bats last
In MLB the road team always bats first
Home team bats at the bottom of the inning.

I just found y'all's channel and I love it!! Please do a reaction to game 2 of the rangers vs astros. Rangers are on a mission!!!!
Home team gets the benefit of batting last
6:31 that’s our “big balls” celebration
The home team hits second every time so they can have the dramatic "walk off" play to end the game.
