Yes Daz there is no way a pitcher would come in and pitch back to back games, the arm is to tired. Normally they give them 4 days rest, and in the Playoffs depending on how desperate the team is they might go on 3 days rest.
To answer OB Daz: 1) Yes, that is the same Evan Longoria 2) During the regular season, teams use a 5-man pitching rotation, so Starting Pitchers pitch once every 5 days. However during the postseason, since there are off-days for travel and teams aren't playing every single day straight, starting rotations will typically shrink down to the 3 starters. The other 2 SP's that are left out of the rotation either don't make the postseason roster or are moved to the bullpen and used as relief pitchers.
The reason you will never/rarely see pitchers overused are because pitchers are extremely susceptible to injury when overused and an injury to a pitcher can result in over a year of missed time.
(piggy backin off what DJ just said )the Phillies pitcher for game #3 on Thurs will be Ranger Suarez. Then Wheeler would pitch game #4, and back to Nola ( if needed) for game #5
Satchel Paige used to pitch double headers back in the day, before players made millions and needed to protect and preserve their assets (arm). Also pitchers pitched way more Pitches per game, before analytics became popular...
Greetings from Philly! Enjoyed your reaction. Honestly, you can't even imagine what it's like to see this live in the stadium. Like no other sporting event I've ever been to in my life. Our team is incredible and the fan base is so much freaking fun!
I've been to white outs and I was at game 3 of last years world series. They are both up there on how unbelievably fun they are. It's crazy that 45k and 100k doesn't feel that different!
13:45 🤣🤣🤣 There’s a ton a memes of Schwarber running! But he feed America during the World Series last year - Taco Bell was giving away free tacos for each stolen base!
The free taco giveaway was if there was any stolen base in the World Series. Schwarber just happened to have the first stolen base in the 2022 World Series. Hence the ads you see this year of how Schwarber won America a free taco last year. My money is for Trea Turner to do it this year if both ALCS and NLCS finish with the Rangers and Phillies winning because Texas would be the home team in Game 1.
@@richardgazinia5482 Schwarber said after that game that he talked to the guys and said he wants to feed America. He already planned to steal his 1st base that season because Taco Bell already had that promotion.
the answer to the question of closing pitchers isn't about their ability to throw as many pitches as a starter, its their ability to get hitters out consistently due to both control and variety of pitches they can throw. Most late inning relievers only have 2 pitches they can truly rely on - fastball and something else (slider, change up, etc) so it becomes easier for hitters to track which pitch is which over the course of a game. A pitcher like Nola has elite control of his fastball (can reliably throw it for strikes that aren't dead center) and 3 other pitches he can throw. A pitcher like Jose Alvarado has 2 pitches he can throw for strikes but his control is not nearly at the level as a pitcher like Nola. But, he can throw over 100mph so a pitcher with his skill set is better suited to shorter appearances. Important to remember when you watch baseball that the act of pitching is just a ridiculous strain on the arm and the human elbow was not meant to have that kind of torque put on it. The amount of pitchers who just blow their shit out every year is crazy and the only way you can get around it other than luck is to play to your strengths and not overdo it
still remember when Kerry Wood broke his arm due to the torque he put on it. instant replay showing his upper arm following through like normal, and lower forearm / hand just flopping backward.
I love your videos, guys. Wheeler won't pitch again until game 5. Typically you want 5 days rest for your starting pitchers. In the playoffs, starters will throw on 4 days rest if need be. A common saying "all hands on deck". In the past, starters have thrown on 2-3 days rest if the series depended on it (Madison Bumgartner, Chris Sale). Also that Castellanos sacrifice fly late in the game, I'm pretty sure the left fielder thought it was the third out which is why he lacked urgency throwing it back in. Keep up the great content!
I remember the 64 Phillies at the end of the season pitching Bunning and Short every other day trying to get that win during their great collapse. Didn’t work out too, well.
If a starting pitcher pitches 80-90 pitches in an outing, they need minimum 4 days rest, ideally 5 or they will be burnt out quick. Starting pitchers differ from relief pitchers in that they usually have a greater arsenal and train differently for endurance. Relief pitchers tend to throw a fewer range of pitches but specialize in one of those ie a really hard fastball (97+ mph) or a wicked slider or something.
Back in the day pitchers would pitch double headers. It was nothing for pitchers to be 32-10 or more on the season. Satchel Paige did it all the time. Before Analytics and players started making millions they over pitched their guys 100% lol. Even recent times in the 80s 90s before modern Analytics became popular pitchers were over used. It just comes down to the money these guys are making now in my opinion. The asset must be protected at all cost when millions of dollars per pitcher is being paid over a lengthy time...
Your right Evan Longoria was in that rival video… fun fact: his rookie season was 2008 for the Rays and played and lost in the the World Series against the Phillies that year, last time we won it all 👀 it’s his first appearance since 2008 in the NLCS
Guys the way umpires at first, second and third base train is not by sight but by sound. They do stare at the base but the call is made by sound. They learn the difference between a foot hitting the base and a ball hitting the glove. They stare at the base to make sure the player on the field on defense keeps his foot on the bag until he here’s that ball hit the glove And playoffs you run a 3 man rotation so wheeler would go 1-4-7 Nola 2-5 Suarez 3-6. In regular season the Phillies had a 5 man rotation so every 6th game some teams every 5. Now if the Phillies went up 3-0 in series the Phillies will pitch there 4th pitcher from regular season rotation in game 4 then save Wheeler and Nola for last 2 games
I love your videos and your interests in Baseball! I'm in Philly and I believe you 2 should come to Citizens Bank Park for a playoff game. Witness the Bedlam at the Bank in person! ⚾
On the sacrifice fly, the Arizona left fielder did not throw the ball in right away because he forgot the number of outs. He thought his catch was the 3rd out when, in fact, it was only the 2nd. You can see the center fielder yelling at him to turn around and throw the ball to the infield.
Yeah, that body language was definitely of someone who thought it was the 3rd out. Long inning, hard to blame him. Who was it, Dante Bichette, who once gave the ball to a fan after making only the second out?
The commercial you were talking about…yeah that’s the same guy. Even Longoria 😂 he’s been around for a long time, that commercial came out when he was on the Rays a decade ago.
Yes the pitcher Wheeler CAN go in game 4 because of the off day. However I think its usually up to how he is feeling. We have a 4th starter sanchez but there is a reason he is not first or second if we need to use him. And the reason the Dbacks leftfielder didn't get the ball in was because he thought they had 2 outs already LOL. Undefeated in the bank! Lets keep it going!
The Ace hopefully having a good night usually will have around 90 pitches, that saves the bullpen, occasionally they will pitch over 100 if they are close to a no hitter record. The bullpen even though they are only pitching maybe 1 or 2 innings will require rest just as the starting aces for multiple days. This is where tactics play in baseball. Having both relievers and aces in top shape can make or break the game. Phillies used to have 3 aces at one point and all 3 were at the peak of the game. The late Roy “doc” Halliday, Cole Hamels, and Cliff Lee. Unfortunately even having those 3 aces the phillies failed to win the World Series. The catcher besides the pitcher has the toughest job, not only catchers memorize each batter they face but they also need a strong arm, majority of great catchers come from South America.
Yah starting pitchers need more rest. Wheeler is gonna start game 4, Nolan 5. Suarez will start game 3, but it’ll likely be a bullpen game. Btw you guys seem to appreciate pitching. See if you can get a full replay of the top of the 9th to watch Orion Kerkering pitch, he’s got a great come up story and he just throws absolute filth.
For pitchers, it is usually 5 days rest (pitching on the 5th day). In regular season, there is a 5 man pitching rotation, so this works out well. In playoffs, that rotation is cut to 3 pitchers in the division series (best of 5) and 4 pitchers in the championship series (best of 7). So, wheeler would pitch again game 5 if it is needed
Phillies starting pitchers for the next games will be gm3 Ranger Suarez, gm4 will be Tiajan Walker, gm5 if needed will be Zach Wheeler, gm6 Aaron Nola, band final game with Ranger Suarez
In the regular season, teams have a five-man starting rotation. In the postseason, they shorten it to either a three or four, depending on how many reliable starters the team has. The deeper a series goes, the more likely a team may possibly bring back their best starter or two on one- or two-days' rest, either as a starter or in relief for a few innings.
TBH i thought y'all would know nothing about baseball, but y'all know quite a lot. There are a few technicalities u don't know. But y'all understand about 95% of the game great job. GO PHILS
I don't know if we're going all the way. But this team is special. Everybody in the lineup energizes the man behind them. They exude such fun when they are playing. Thanks for following along with the journey.
Phillies went Wheeler, Nola. Since today is an off day, they’ll probably go Suarez, then back to Wheeler. 3 man rotation essentially (Wheeler, Nola, Suarez)
5:51 yes, he’s the guy. He’s a veteran player in the league, former AL Rookie of the Year in 2008, won a multiple Gold Gloves, spent his first 9 year career with the Rays, then got traded to San Fransisco Giants in 2018 & now with the Diamondbacks.
Managing the workload among a team's pitching staff is challenging. Pitchers are like runners. The starters are like marathoners, pitching longer innings and have a 3 or 4 pitch repertoire to face batters 3 or 4 times a game. They try to conserve their energy and pitch effectively up to about 100 pitches. They need longer recovery times, usually 4 to 5 days rest between starts. Middle relievers are able to pitch 2 to 3 innings every couple days if necessary. They usually have a 2 or 3 pitch repertoire. Closers are like sprinters. They usually pitch just 1 inning to close the game for the win. They pitch with maximum effort, letting it all hang out. Their repertoire is usually 2 or 3 pitches.
I love all of the Blokes reactions. Starting pitchers always get 4 days rest before their next start. Relief pitchers, in general, can pitch in back to-back games, if they don't pitch more than one inning. The home team always bats last (You asked that in your last video).
Closers are supposed to be some of the best pitchers. Specialists if you will. They should be high strikeouts low walk pitchers. But May not necessarily be able to sustain that over a multiple innings like starters who should be able to work themselves out of jams whereas relievers are not supposed to get too much traffic on bases.
starting pitchers need to have a variety in order to pace themselves for long outings, a closer is generally a very hard thrower and rarely can go more then two innings.
Most Pitching rotation is 5 Days. During the postseason they add in extra days between for travel. Wheeler will pitch game 4, and Nola Game 5. Ranger Suarez goes in game 3, backed up buy our Bullpen. - please send me a shipping address so I can send Dad a Phillies hat to balance out that son’s Astros hat. - Ring the Bell!
Short sweet rule of thumb, is that relievers are pitchers that don't have enough overall talent to be a starter. Towards the end of the bullpen you have setup pitchers and closers, who although not talented enough to be in the starting rotation, are extremely skilled in high stress high outings, usually having a some combination of elite velocity and break on their pitches to make up for the lack of command.
It's typical for a game 1 pitcher to pitch in game 5, then a game 2 pitcher to pitch in game 6, and a game 3 starter to pitch in game 7, but sometimes managers will push the limits and have their ace start on short rest (A good example of this is CC Sabathia for the 2009 Yankees)
To answer the question about the outfielder not getting the ball in quicker on the 10th run- he caught it and reacted as if it was the 3rd out and the inning was over. That’s why his teammate told him to get the ball in.
I hope you guys are aware…you now have to react to every remaining game in the exact same way. Can’t mess with the mojo!! Baseball is an amazing game and it’s awesome to see you guys digging in and trying to learn more about the game! And this Phils team is special…6 more to go and they’ll be legendary around here! Go Phils!!
You guys are right, pitchers require rest. A starting pitcher throws somewhere around 100 pitches depending upon how well they are doing. Thats around 6 to 7 innings before they are relieved. They need 3 to 4 days rest before they will start another game.
when you talk about best pitcher, phillies have 3 very good starters, even if they could throw their best out, the more looks at a pitcher the dbacks get the better they may perform, so three in that context is probably ideal. remember, they need to play the world series also so don't expect them to mix it up unless they are facing elimination
Starting pitchers usually go 4 to 5 days between starts. Suarez will pitch game 3 and you may see another pitcher for the Phils in game 4, but Wheeler may pitch. Also, I hope you're enjoying watching baseball highlights. It's my favorite game, and when played well, it's a beautiful sport.
You got most of it right Daz. Wheeler, Nola, and Suarez were the definite starters for Game 1, 2, and 3. The Phillies could try to use Wheeler again for Game 4, but it would be better to use either Walker or Sanchez to pitch game 4, giving Wheeler, Nola, and Suarez two more days of rest so they could pitch Games 5, 6 and 7 if needed. If a starting pitcher has a bad outing and is taking out earlier, you would not use another Starting Pitcher to replace him, you would bring in one of your Relief Pitchers. Most teams usually have a couple of Relievers designated for long relief, meaning they would come in and try to pitch at least three of four innings. The Phillies would not want to use their top Relievers like Alvarado, Kimbrel, Dominguez, or Hoffman in long relief in a game that they would most-likely lose if the Starter got knocked out. Very rarely would a team bring in a Starter in relief, and it usually only happens in elimination games in the playoffs, when teams are in “All Hands On Deck” mode. The Phillies did bring Suarez as the closer in Game 5 of the NLCS against the Padres last year because most of the other Relievers had been used in the last two games and were tired. Suarez also has a reputation of having nerves of steel in big moments.
During the regular season we had a 6 starting pitcher rotation, in the playoffs we’ve been running only 3 of the six. So the other 3 slide into the bullpen for relief, but we also have full time relievers that thats all they do is come in for relief. Some pitchers start off as relievers and become starters later in their careers and some start off as starters and become relievers later in their careers, it just depends on the team and what they are good at. You would never start a starting pitcher back to back unless theres a 5 day lay off. Typically starters get 5 days of rest, but in the playoffs you just take your best 3 rotate them. With a day off for travel, it typically gives your number one starter 4 days rest.
So there is a pitching rotation. For the Phillies it goes Wheeler, Nola, Suarez. They wont ever pitch out of this rotation. Pitchers generally take 4 days rest in the post season. Throwing 60-80 pitches in the mid to high 90 mph it would be impossible to pitch sooner because they would almost definitely hurt their arm. So Wheeler pitched game 1 on the 16th so with the travel day today and Suarez pitching tomorrow, Wheeler wont pitch again until the 21st this giving him 4 days rest and a fresh arm. That's the standard for all teams.
If the Phillies make it the World Series there’s a very good chance Rys Hoskins can play, he was injured all season but was one of their best players last year, just look up some clips of last years postseason he was ELECTRIC
There is a rotation of starting pitchers so Suarez will pitch game 3 but there is a chance if they have to that wheeler pitches game 4 but if they don't feel like they need to they have another very good starting pitcher who hasn't pitched at all in Walker. So you could see him game 4 but usually they need like 5 days or so of rest after a start.
First time watcher, love the POD. Phillies are very deep in pitching, there is no reason to change rotation. Best Wheeler comes back is game 4 and Nola for game 5. If game 7 it would be Wheeler on normal 5 day rest. Thanks for the video, hope to watch more.
Love the channel boys. 1. Yes that’s the same Evan Longoria from the video with the news reporter. He was also a rookie in 2008 on the TB Rays who is who the Phillies beat in the 08 World Series! He’s still playing! 2. As for the ways managers handle pitching. Typically you take your 5 man rotation down to 3 man in the playoffs. Usually a guy needs atleast 3 days rest or 2 games in between each start. Relievers can pitch everyday or every other. In a pinch there have been some pitchers who have started in a “must win” game 6 and then 2 days later came in as a reliever for a few innings but it’s rare and you gotta be lucky to have a pitcher whos a bulldog like that. Typically if your starter gets hammered in the 1st or 2nd inning they have a few relievers who have starter experience who will come in. You don’t want to use your #2 guy in a game that your already down early they will just concede or hope the relievers can hold on to give your bats a chance to battle back and they’ll save the next starter up for the following game. There are a lot of general rules that most managers use in baseball but in the playoffs you’ll see some stuff that is different because the teams know every game counts so you sometimes have to use a strategy of “just do what it takes to win tonight and we will piece the next game together” because if you don’t and end up losing than it didn’t really matter anyway! I hope that makes some sense and I didn’t ramble to badly. Cheers
A normal rest day for a pitcher is 5 days, playoffs it’s common for pitchers to start on 3 or 4 days rest, depending on the strength of the rest of the rotation
Lads, think of bullpen pitchers and closers like those players you have on the bench in football who come on the 75th minute or so to either help close out the match if you were ahead, or give you an offensive spark if you're behind. They're specialists. Maybe not good enough to start, but very good at giving you that solid 15 or 20 minutes off the bench. And yes, as others have mentioned, pitchers typically get 4 days rest, most teams have a five-man rotation of starting pitchers. And those starters are monitored on their pitch count. They even put that on the screen now, and pitchers rarely go much more than 80 or 90 pitches, sometimes far less if they're not having success, and rarely passed the 6th inning. That's because after the 6th inning typically you've been through the opposing batting lineup twice and they start to figure you out which is why it's beneficial to change pitcher and have someone in who throws differently and keeps the opposing batters off balance. And you'll rarely see a starting pitcher go on less than 4 days rest, unless it's a do or die situation. Say if you're behind in a series and could be eliminated, you could bring in your best starting picture on short rest with the theory being it's do or die and what are you saving him for if you get eliminated anyway. Also, especially in the World Series since it's the last series of the season, you could actually see your best starters come in as relievers later in the game if you have the opportunity to close out the game, or if it's game 7. Obviously it's the last game of the season and you don't have to save them for anything. Hope this helps, enjoy your vids lads, Cheers!
Pitchers normally are limited to a certain number of pitches. Top line starters will rarely go beyond 100 pitches, regardless of the score or inning. Hence, the requirement of relief pitchers with their own unique duties and pitch- counts. 'Closing' pitchers are normally limited to the last 3 outs of the game. Relievers can pitch more often than starters due to less pitches per outing. Times have changed. In 1968, Bob Gibson of the Cardinals pitched 27 complete games. Unheard of today
the old me would say god damn it Phillies, stop blowing your loads too soon, but shit let it be, they are on mission, they are snapping necks and cashing checks, it's all business right now, they are having tons of fun and the team camaraderie with each other and the city is what's making this engine go, that squad is stacked, when your 7 hole hitter is Castellanos, that is embarrassment of riches, but Wheeler & Nola are absolutely dealing, nasty stuff, Wheeler has the rising fastball which looks enticing coming in but escapes most bats, and Nola's knuckle curve has the opp. looking silly, and don't forget about the Skipper Rob Thomson and Dom Dombrowski wheeling and dealing, assembling the right pieces, LOOK, it's long overdue, if you're gonna do it than do it, win it all, I'm not about to have my heart ripped out 2 years in a row, New Jersey has your back Philly! this isn't just about Philly, south jersey is all in!
There’s no Philly without South Jersey. You can’t get more blue collar than us, we pump our own gas lol. This run is for Wawa, wooder ice and all those lost summers watching awful baseball teams. This is it my friend. Lets go
@@Mirrorwut well just like Philly teams do on cue, they rip your heart out and play like uninspired deadbeats, they are disgraceful, 3 hits? 1 run? that was scored because the diamondbacks pitcher threw a wild pitch! they are finished now, what is it? they can't play outside of CBP?? they gave the Arizona team life and confidence, now the flood gates open, it makes me sick too
Pitchers back in the day used to pitch back to back but you're right, really puts the guy at risk, and usually not gonna get their best stuff game 2 anyway
Hey mates; wheeler is scheduled to pitch game 1, and game 5. Nola game 2 and game 6. Suarez game 3 and game 7. Taiwan Walker or Christopher Sanchez game 4.
Remember these guys throw a lot of pitches for a warm up before they enter a game to get their arm loose. I have seen a starter used when they were not on normal rest as a reliever if the game is a lose and go home type scenario though.
Teams have a five player starting pitcher rotation, meaning each one will pitch every 5 days during the season. It’s common in playoffs for the best 1 or 2 in the rotation to go on short days rest though. Bullpen guys can pitch multiple days in a row, pending on how many pitches they throw. Have to give the arms rest and recovery. That’s where a manager and coaching strategy comes in huge in baseball.
Traditionally, starting pitchers pitch every 4 games in the playoffs. So wheeler g1 and g5. Nola 2 and 6 Ranger Suarez 3 and 7. Walker g4. Interestingly though, you mentioned bringing back one of the aces for g7. There was a world series where the diamondbacks were playing the Yankees and their 2 best starting pitchers (curt schilling, randy johnson) came back into play in the game 7 late in the game for a short stint. The diamondbacks and the pitchers both threw caution to the wind to win the world series. Look up the 2001 world series if you like. Also, Jack Morris was once asked to come back on short rest for a game 7 and won. Blackjack
Starters usually pitch every 5th game. In the post season with the off days they can get away with every 4th game. The Phillies will have Suarez in game 3 and most likely Wheeler in Game 4.
Yeah, the reason they need relief pitching is that the throwing velocity has gone up over the last 2 decades, and everyone wants pitchers who throw hard over 100 mph (162 kph), and you’re right the human arm just won’t do that, there’s been too many injuries. Nola isn’t like that, he throws like a pitcher would have 20 years ago, he’s really difficult to hit because most MLB batters are used to the ball going way faster. There’s also a lot of strategy involved in relief pitching with who you want to face certain batters, righty vs lefty. A manager has to navigate it through the whole game. Also another reason why you wouldn’t start the same pitcher two days in a row, they need to be in too shape and rested to fit into the overall strategy. It’s the game within a game and I friggin love it! Go Phils and Cheers from Philly! 😁
Pitchers do go in games 1,4,7 but it depends on the guy. Some of them dont pitch well on 3-4 days rest because it messes up their routine. People are creatures of habit. Even if a guys arm is good he might not have it mentally on the short rest. Some relievers dont have it in their arm to start but also it could be because they have only perfected a pitch or two instead of 4-5 that a starter can generally throw. Fastball, change up, curve, slider etc etc
Normal rest time for a starting pitcher is 5 days. In the playoffs, you want to give them a minimum of 4 days. You can see relief pitchers in consecutive games. Probably won't see Wheeler until Game 5 if necessary. You don't want to overwork your stars if your goal is the World Series.
Hopefully the Phillies will get to the World Series and bring Philly a parade down Broad St. 🤞🤞🤞🤞 let’s go Fightin Phil. Most consider Philly fans to be the worst cause of our past especially when Veterans Stadium was still around but we have the best fans in the world. The feeling in the stadium in post season games is so amazing and electric. Never felt anything like it in my life.
🤞 CBP is such an incredible atmosphere. I’ve not managed to get to the states and see them play since 2009 but I love Philadelphia. Can’t wait to see the phills in London next year ❤ got my rally towel and waving it hard for the fightins this postseason let’s gooo
@@simonallin5478 I got lucky this year and got to go to the wildcard game they won to send them on to play the Braves. It was my first post season game in years. The whole place was electric
Pitching in the post season is on a 3-4 man rotation. I believe the phills are going to run a 4 man rotation pitching ranger Thursday, Sanchez Friday and if necessary, wheeler will go for game 5. Pitchers need more rest than regular players due to the stress it puts on their arm. Relief pitchers that only go for an inning can usually pitch in back to back games without rest though.
Watching on TV, people don't realize just how fast these pitchers throw the ball. It's insane and scary in real life. And Daz, you look a little like Kyle Schwarber. 😁
In all likelihood wheeler may pitch game 4 depends on a couple factors what the series is looking like whether is 3-0 or 2-1 but also the phillies have depth in their rotation so that factors it as well and lastly how could it potentially impacts the rotation setup for the worlds series that’s all stuff that has to be taken into consideration. But you never see another start replaced with another who just threw a day or two before that’s where having deep bull pens comes into play and having the ability to bridge from start to finish.
3 days rest is the shortest a starting pitcher may have between games. Its 3 or 4 days depending on the situation. Game 7 or more desperate than maybe only 3 days. Otherwise usually 4. Relief pitchers can go back to back days because its far less demanding.
If your relief pitcher is throwing a shout out a no hitter or even a perfect game it’s respectful to him to leave him in as long as possible for his stats
Yoooooooooo holy crap 😂😂😂 Notre Dames quarterback Sam Hartman shaved his beard so I looked it up and I totally thought I was looking at Aiden for a second 🤣🤣💀💀 hot damn Aiden your doppelganger is the notre dame QB 🤣
Closing pitchers throw a lot more breaking balls. Breaking balls are rougher on the arm than fastballs and change-ups. Starting pitchers are good fastball pitchers. It saves the arm so that they can throw more pitches. Daz is right about keeping the arm. They could pitch on three days rest, but pitchers lose a bit of their power. It varies from pitcher to pitcher, but the players also want to give their arms to heal. They want to limit the damage best they can so they can have longer careers and fewer surgeries.
Yes Daz there is no way a pitcher would come in and pitch back to back games, the arm is to tired. Normally they give them 4 days rest, and in the Playoffs depending on how desperate the team is they might go on 3 days rest.
They don't show it, but a lot of pitchers once taken out of the game have their pitching arms wrapped in ice for hours.
Probably worth clarifying this is just for starting pitchers. Relief pitchers pitch much more often.
Yes, thanks for clarifying. @@vh84dlr
Your arm hurts more the next day than it does the night you threw 100 pitches
From 1900-1960s that would be the case. Back when men were men. Pitch a double header. Go 38-12 for the season. Those days are long gone
To answer OB Daz:
1) Yes, that is the same Evan Longoria
2) During the regular season, teams use a 5-man pitching rotation, so Starting Pitchers pitch once every 5 days.
I WAS GONNA TYPE YES IS THE SAME LONGORIA HAHAHAH
(piggy backin off what DJ just said )the Phillies pitcher for game #3 on Thurs will be Ranger Suarez. Then Wheeler would pitch game #4, and back to Nola ( if needed) for game #5
Satchel Paige used to pitch double headers back in the day, before players made millions and needed to protect and preserve their assets (arm). Also pitchers pitched way more Pitches per game, before analytics became popular...

13:45 🤣🤣🤣 There’s a ton a memes of Schwarber running! But he feed America during the World Series last year - Taco Bell was giving away free tacos for each stolen base!
They would’ve gone bankrupt if it was for every home run😂
One guy wearing a Houston hat, and the other one wearing Phillies blue😂
The free taco giveaway was if there was any stolen base in the World Series. Schwarber just happened to have the first stolen base in the 2022 World Series. Hence the ads you see this year of how Schwarber won America a free taco last year. My money is for Trea Turner to do it this year if both ALCS and NLCS finish with the Rangers and Phillies winning because Texas would be the home team in Game 1.
@@richardgazinia5482 Schwarber said after that game that he talked to the guys and said he wants to feed America. He already planned to steal his 1st base that season because Taco Bell already had that promotion.
@@Cheesesteak70-d1v Funny enough, last postseason was like an all time low of stolen bases
Just discovered your channel this morning. Nice to see MLB fans on another continent. Great reaction, subbed. Go Phillies!
Love your reactions!! As a 57 year old Phillies fan, I always appreciate seeing other baseball fans talk about my team! Brilliant guys!!! Thank you!
Loving the curiosity, the questions and the baseball community around here. ❤
the answer to the question of closing pitchers isn't about their ability to throw as many pitches as a starter, its their ability to get hitters out consistently due to both control and variety of pitches they can throw.
Not in these highlights but The Always Sunny in Philadelphia crew was there last night, Tim McGraw Monday & others
I live about a 3 minute ride from the Bank. This is dope to see!
Your right Evan Longoria was in that rival video… fun fact: his rookie season was 2008 for the Rays and played and lost in the the World Series against the Phillies that year, last time we won it all 👀 it’s his first appearance since 2008 in the NLCS
Yep that's the same Evan Longoria, long time Ray, glad to see him still playing
Guys the way umpires at first, second and third base train is not by sight but by sound. They do stare at the base but the call is made by sound. They learn the difference between a foot hitting the base and a ball hitting the glove. They stare at the base to make sure the player on the field on defense keeps his foot on the bag until he here’s that ball hit the glove
And playoffs you run a 3 man rotation so wheeler would go 1-4-7 Nola 2-5 Suarez 3-6. In regular season the Phillies had a 5 man rotation so every 6th game some teams every 5. Now if the Phillies went up 3-0 in series the Phillies will pitch there 4th pitcher from regular season rotation in game 4 then save Wheeler and Nola for last 2 games
Never thought of that. 👍🏻
That’s what I thought. Was going to say but moment passed 😂
@@officeblokedaz hard to believe, even at this level, these mental errors happen ... just like the infield fly that no one fielded.
The commercial you were talking about…yeah that’s the same guy. Even Longoria 😂 he’s been around for a long time, that commercial came out when he was on the Rays a decade ago.
Tomorrow’s game is in Phoenix & it starts at 10pm UK time (5pm eastern, 2pm west coast)
I'd guess that Walker will start Game 4, though Sanchez has had some good starts.
@@hbk314 yeah but i know texas has alot of lefties so id assume it would be our other lefty
Schwarber runs like a Clydesdale . . . . . not very fast but, he can pull a "beer wagon".
Wheeler is slated to start game 5 if needed. If the Phillies sweep, Wheeler starts game 1 of the World Series.
Sanchez gm4
In the regular season, teams have a five-man starting rotation. In the postseason, they shorten it to either a three or four, depending on how many reliable starters the team has. The deeper a series goes, the more likely a team may possibly bring back their best starter or two on one- or two-days' rest, either as a starter or in relief for a few innings.

Pretty sure Walker will start Game 4. Wheeler will go on regular rest if there's a Game 5.
@@hbk314 Fair point. Game 4 might be a Walker/Bullpen game. Unless Taijuan balls out of course
Another solid vid fellas. You have a good understanding of the game just by working through the highlights every day. Fun to watch!
Very amusing watching you guys keep it up, another excuse to watch the Phillies highlights 😊
The D-Backs are my team, but I like the Phillies also, so either way It is good. In Phoenix they have a pool in the out field cool
Has anyone mentioned Schwarber and Daz could be brothers? Pretty much same body too 😂😂
The next games will be indoors, can’t wait to see what the Phillies can do in the perfect weather conditions inside a dome.
Wheeler wouldn't be back until game 5. Gotta have atleast 5 days he doesn't do good on short rest.
To further answer. Normal rest is 5 days
Evan Longoria played his rookie season with Tampa Bay Ray who played the Phillies in the World Series in 2008. Phillies won.
Haven't been able to watch the games while they're on, enjoy seeing the highlights with you both.
That's the standard for all teams.
wheeler wont pitch again until game 1 of the WS 😉😉
Unheard of today
yes its the same Longoria

Starting pitchers will pitch every 5 games during regular season. But it varies a lot during post season
How bout game 3 tho!!!!!!!!
Ranger Suarez is scheduled to start today. If the Phillies win, it's possible that Tijuan Walker will start game four, and Wheeler game five.
If your relief pitcher is throwing a shout out a no hitter or even a perfect game it’s respectful to him to leave him in as long as possible for his stats
Pitchers normally have 4/5 days rest but they might bring him back early. In Arizona next 3 games ( Thurs,Fri,Sat)
You usually rest your pitcher for about 4 games but in the postseason they make it 3 depending on how good the teams pitching is.
Starters normally pitch every fifth day ideally. They can go four, but usually are not as effective.
Usually they pitch every 5th day .. Wheels will pitch Game 5 Nola Game 6 .. pitching on the 4th day isn't unheard of in the playoffs
Nice to see Daz running the bases
Also you never move your next starter into a mop up role. You have a bunch of long relievers in the bullpen for that reason
